duplicate photos in iPhoto and cannot empty the trash

After update to El Capitan, I found that iPhoto was no longer on the machine. I prefer to use this program, so it downloaded. When I added my photo library, I had lots and lots of pictures duplicate. When you delete them, I found that I could not empty the trash. I tried different options of first aid and ended with even more duplicate images. The Trash now has more 20,000 points, and I can't empty it.

Looking at my pictures folder, I find an iPhoto with 184 GB library, iPhoto-2 library with 36 GB and a library of Photos with 26 GB.

When I added my photo library, I had lots and lots of pictures duplicate.

Import you this library? Or how did you add it?

  • I deleted the pictures twice in iPhotos and iCloud. The photos have been removed from books I've done this year.

I do a book every year for my mother.  I did five or six, and this year was the only time that I had no problem.  I had duplicate an image to use it a second time in the book.  The book is very good.  It is listed under projects and saved in pdf format. After that I bought a book (by means of projects) for each Member of the family, I settled remove all duplicates created in iPhoto and stored on the cloud.  I deleted all but one of each photo (in some cases, there was 8-12 duplicates!)    When I went back to work in the projects, the pictures were also removed it.  They are always correct in the PDF but I can't buy a book through this version.  I start two books and you're wondering how to avoid any duplicates with these books.  It wasn't the situation of last year.

iPhoto stores nothing in the cloud, do you mean the new Photos.app?

  • When emptying the trash does not

I can't get rid of some files created by page on El Capitan (v.10.11.3) .png. Says WARNING cannot be deleted because are used, but they are not in use. Have tried the option key when deleting key. Impossible to find a safe option to empty the trash. Unlocked icons. Running the disk utility. I'm stumped as to how to get rid of them.

The Secure Empty Trash feature has been removed in El Capitan, because he could not work constantly and also shorten the life expectancy of the SSD.

Have you tried to restart and then empty the trash?

  • empty the trash

Hi can you I have empty 'Trash' selectively, or is it "all - or - nothing"?       I have quite a few files in the basket that I should keep it now.  Should I start a new folder and move these files I need this file?   Not a matter of life and death, but perhaps somebody did... Cheers, theorganiste

Trash is not a storage location.

Move the files you want to keep in a folder on the desktop, and then empty the trash.

You can also Ctrl click on a file in the Recycle Bin to delete it immediately.

    Thank you.

Check SystemPreferences-> users & groups-> LoginItems, to see if there is something that has to do with this file, if so, remove it with the sign, if not, the next step:

Restart the mac and then empty the trash.

I can not eject a dvd from my drive iPhoto super-cannot see the drive open up Adobe Photo Elements and organizer and then apps get hung up "not responding" and cannot do anything - I've fixed dozens of times w msg success drive.  Help, please.  Thank you!

    Hello golden2,.

I understand that you have a DVD picture in your SuperDrive drive, but it is not mount on the desktop and will not eject.

Please, try the procedure described in this article using the disc is ejected.

Get help with the SuperDrive slot on your Mac - Apple Support loading

Do not eject discs or discs eject slowly

    1. If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to have difficulty, insert and eject a disc several times. Check the disc to see if it has a label or other material stuck to the disc which increases the thickness. Remove the label if possible.
    2. If the disc does not eject, try pressing the eject on the keyboard button. Some older keyboards may use the F12 key to eject the disc.
    3. If the disc does not eject, try dragging the icon of the disk to the trash.
    4. If the disc will still not eject, try to hold down the mouse or trackpad button after you restart the computer. The Superdrive should attempt to eject the disc.
    5. If the disc still does not eject, reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and repeat steps 1 to 4.
    6. If the disc still does not eject, Contact Apple or an provider of services authorized Apple, or make an appointment with a Store Apple Store for further assistance.

    Take care.

  • The photos in iPhoto and the same pictures? Is it possible to remove/save the photos to iPhoto?

The photos in iPhoto and the same pictures?  Is it possible to remove/save the photos to iPhoto?

Yes, they are literally identical. That is to say, time iPhoto Library and photo library (link) to point to the same files on your drive.

The two libraries does NOT duplicate these files. If you delete the iPhoto library you will find very little storage space.

My suggestion would be to leave in place iPhoto library until you have the habit of Photos and know with absolute certainty that all migrated to Photos correctly. Even in this case, you can copy, save a copy on a disk external backup and only remove them from your main drive.

  • Trying to empty the trash.  After clicking on empty the trash.  An error comes up saying that this cannot be done due to the error 50.  Tried to check and repair disk permissions.  This finished.  Then tried to empty the trash again and got the same error

I tried to empty the trash. After clicking on empty the trash. An error comes up saying that this cannot be done due to the error 50.

Tried to check and repair disk permissions. This finished.

Then tried to empty the trash again and got the same error 50 yet.

I rebooted my macbook. When it restarted it flashed the apple logo, progress bar began to charge up to 15%, then the black and white code popped up for a few seconds, then a box pops up saying "your computer has restarted because of an error, press any key to restart." It is now is an endless restart loop.

I can't go in safe mode or in disk utility.

Any suggestions on what to try?

    Thank you

What happens when you try to restart without danger as indicated to OS X Yosemite: start in safe mode

  • If I remove photos of iPhotos and I have already transferred the photos to a file in my documents, photos will always be there?

If I delete photos of iPhotos once I transferred the pictures in a file in my documents, they will still be in these files or will be deleted also?

Once exported, they have no connection with iPhoto, then Yes, they will always be there. A simple test or error with another unimportant this will confirm for you.

  • Why I get this trying to empty the Trash: the operation cannot be completed because the item "IMG_0645.jpg" is in use

After selecting and dragging some photos of Photo on the desk I have their attached to an e-mail and sent them to the coast. Then I selected the 5 photos on the desktop and put them in the trash. When I tried to empty the trash later I received the following message: the operation cannot be completed because the item "IMG_0645.jpg" is in use.

Aren't these photos on the desktop 'copies' of the originals in the Photo?

  • Cannot empty the file to the trash

    El Cap 10.11.5:

I have a PDF in the trash. When I try to empty the trash, I get "the operation cannot be completed because the"XXX.pdf"element is in use.

The file is not locked. I tried to leave by force, but none of the open applications can make pdf files. The only live apps are Finder, Mail, and Safari. I tried to restart the Finder.

The file is still there and can not be trashed.

    Other ideas appreciated.
