  You can even have installed on more than 2 computers, but only 2 can be signed in and active.

  I installed Win XP on my laptop as well.
  Now, I m using Vista and Win XP but I will get rid of Vista because I love Win 7 :)

  How I did it:
  I created a new partition using Vista. In disk management, you can shrink a partition and the free space can be used for the new partition.
  Then I created a Win XP with SATA drivers (I used nLite) and installed Win XP on the free partition.
  Then I could start only Win XP, but I wasn't able to boot Vista because vista boot manager has been damaged by Win XP.

  Well, I took the disc Win Vista (not recovery disc but original! MS Vista disc) and booted from the disc. The Vista disc repaired the Boot Manager and I was able to boot to Vista, but Win XP option wasn't there :(

  I searched a bit and found a free tool called EasyBCD. I installed this tool in Vista OS and this tool is useful for creating an of Win XP in Vista Manager boot entry.

  So finally I could use the Vista Boot Manager and this feeder start contains Vista and Win XP.

  OK, new here and still learning the ropes on how to get things done around the forum here, so if I create a topic here that already exists, sorry about that.

  I just bought VMWare Fusion and installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64 b and I have a Windows 7 upgrade disk and I am wanting to install W7 on top of Vista in my virtual machine.  I realize that you cannot use an upgrade disk and switch from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium, but I can legally install a NEW installation of Windows 7.  Whenever I try however, installing Windows tells me that there must be a certain amount of disk space to do so.  I expanded my virtual drive... etc... etc., everything that I can think to accomplish this, but I can't seem to do.  I would be very happy to help here.

  Windows complains that not enough space is because it will borrow the old Vista installation in a folder named WIndows.old, so you can recover the files later. If the virtual hard disk must have space for installing Windows 7 and the old Vista installation.

  You have extended the virtual disk, but probably forgot to extend partition in Windows. This is not done automatically.

  In Vista, open the Start Menu and type 'Computer management' in the search. Choose the option that appears.

  In computer management, choose "Disk management" in the left sidebar.

  Now, on the lower part of the screen, you'll see a Visual representation of the partitions on your hard drive. I bet after the C:\ drive, he'll be a big gray area. It's given extra space when you expanded the hard drive, but was not assigned to the windows. To use this space, right click on the block of the C:\ drive and choose "Extend Volume". You can accept all the defects that you go through the wizard increase volume and you will be able to use that extra space you gave the VM.

  I think that you couldn't find the right drivers XP because you didn t find on the right-hand page.
  Like you probably n t know that this series of laptop (Satellite A305) belongs to Toshiba from US and you have to find good drivers on Toshiba U.S. page!

  In addition, if you want to install Win XP on laptop thin, you will need to install the SATA drivers first.
  The SATA drivers are on Intel Storage Manager part which can be downloaded from the Intel and Toshiba page page as well.

  But if you don t want to install SATA drivers, there is another possibility to install the XP.
  Just access the BIOS and set the compatible SATA to AHCI mode.
