dvd600s

I bought a moultiformat HP DVD600S ultra slim external dvd/cd burner and am unable to watch the videos using the dvd on my HP Envy tilt 23-k009c.

Afer plug the external DVD drive into a USB port on the all-in-one, I can view CDs which contain images, can play CDs and DVDs, install can play DVDs that contain images and videos, but when I put a DVD (for example the film Titanic), nothing happens.

What can be done to fix this?

Thank you.   Rob.

It is a difficult answer...

Windows 8 does not come with a native DVD player more. So if your PC did not come with a DVD player, and the urge to tilt is not, there will not be any DVD playing software on the PC, which means you will not be able to play DVDs without having the proper software. The best thing to do is go to the store windows and a search for DVD playback software. You can also do a search on google and there are also a few free out there.

Good luck

Bill

Your external DVD drive is operatying as it should.

The best place to find an answer on how to make the live CD is the Debian forum. Disk made you apparentlydoes is not not a MBR boot sector or a recognized EFI partition. Either of the people is what is necessary for the drive to be bootable and your notebook BIOS must be configured in accordance with the choice of the type of format.

Personally I've always preferred to use a utility likeUNetbootln to make several versions of Linux "live" bootable.

I don't bother with the hassle of the DVD or CD media more.

If you have a spare drive 32 or 64 GB USB flash drive, so you can put an incredible number of versions of Linux and troubleshooting utilities on it.

The economy of scale with usb flashdrive has gotten to the point where a 16 GB usb key is less expensive than recordable DVD media. Check outthe Newegg price.
