E260 no memory

Hello

I have a sanza E260 V1,

Here's my problem. My sister actually put in shape the whole unit (she dosent remember how she did it...) and now when I connect the sanza in my computer (vista), it pop up 2removable drive, I can't navigate all those. He always tells me, insert a floppy disk.

then I read how Flash unit in the hope that it could solve my problem, tried auto first with this guide http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/306/kw/firmware/r_id/101834

also tried the manual way, but since I can't browse the unity I can't upgrade the firmware manually in the unit

one more thing, I noticed,

When I go into settings - info - I see memory 0 MB

Free 0MB

and every time I have start the unit im asked to release 6MB for music DB

y at - it still works in a way to make the reader or it is completely dead?

Do a recovery mode on your device, and then load the firmware and the sansa.fmt file as well. This will reformat the hard drive (all information is lost) and reload the firmware.

Place firmware and file sansa.fmt on the format 16 MB drive that will appear on the computer.

  • E260 v1 or v2?

Had a worm e260 2 for several years with no problems.  I want to take another but cannot find players of version 1.  Advantages and disadvantages please.

    Thank you

    Joe

The biggest difference is that the v2 are supported SDHC memory card format, which means that you can use to the maximum size of 32GB. The v1 support only SD, which is only up to 2 GB, unless you use 3rd - party Rockbox firmware.

Some say that sounds a little better v2 also, but it could be questionable. I would say that you would be lucky enough to find one of them these days, as they have ceased to exist for a few years now. Certainly, it will be virtually impossible to find a new one; most likely what you will find are re-furbs.

  • adding memory

Can I buy any micro drive and add memory?  I bought a Lexar 8 gb microSDHC to add memory. My drive does not read it. I have a model e260. I like it. Want just more memory so that I won't have to keep deleting music out of player.

  • E260 itself switched to MTP mode?

    I have a sansa e260 EU w/o runing FM. New firmware, 01.02.24E

It was running under MSC. Recently, Vista, I installed the new update of sansa and plugged my player. There is no directory of MUSIC in there, but it was there before.

I unplugged, switched to MTP mode and found the music. I prefer the MSC, covers album folder.jpg and all mode. I have to remove all music from PSG and the copy in the back of my PC to a freshly created in MSC mode MUSIC folder? Is there another way to solve this problem?

If you want to switch to MSC mode exclusively, one possibility would be to do what you are thinking: copy all files on computer through MTP mode and then put them on the player in MSC mode.  I would like to format the drive before reloading in order to free the memory.

Another recommendation would be to create a folder named something else outside of MUSIC.  Sometimes, the player he gets into his head to hide this folder.  It can be unhid, but why bother when you can just use a different folder?  Use something like my MUSIC or similar.

Edit: By the way, the player always returns to the default (auto or MTP) USB mode after the firmware update.

  • Manufacturing of the playlist - e260

I have an E260 v.1 4 GB with a 2GB minisd card.  It is set to MSC usb mode and I want to make the playlists using Winamp 5.  It is the Winamp that works on my pc.  I know to use the files on the drive, not the ones on my pc and winamp playlist must be saved on the drive to the music folder.

My question is, what form should the saved playlist in?  M3U, M3U8 and PLS?  Also, I can make several playlists say some for the song of the player records main (I made several records for various artists) and others for the records of the song on the expansion card.  Are all the playlists that have been parked in the music or they should each go in music / the particular subfolder and how is a repertoire of songs to the expansion card is, my PC sees the card as another letter from removable drive than the sansa player and playlist of the card is also parking in music?

    Thank you.

As long as you have a reader v1 & are in MSC mode, a much easier way to make the palylists is with the free program creator of selections Sanse. Piece of cake!

I use Winamp to create playlists for my e200 series v2 drives and the rocket. It creates a .m3u playlist file that is stored in the MUSIC folder. When you work with a player of v1, .pla's choice playlist format and those stored in the folder SELECTIONS. The Creator program of selections automatically inserts them there.

The nice thing about .pla format lists is that you can combine music from the reader and the card in a single selection. It is easy to do with the creator of selections.

With the format .m3u playlists, the content must come from the source of a memory or the other, not both.

Unfortunately, the playlist Sanse will not work on v2 or Fuze/Clip models.

  • Windows can't talk my Sansa e260.

I think I'm in a bit of hot water. A day or two ago, I plugged my sansa in this computer. Windows 7 says that he was installing the device. Which is strange because I used it on this computer before. He said that he could not install the device. So I say to myself that there must be a problem with the sansa. I take my laptop and try there. I am able to copy all the data out of it and then go to "my computer", right click the icon it and click on format. I'm done in the past with no problems. I do not pick quick format because I was to make you that he is not the bad sectors. At the end he says that he cannot complete the format. Now when I plug it into a windows computer, two icons of generic player appear in 'my computer' (usually as "J:" and "I:"). When I try to click on them it just says "Please insert a disk" or something. Even with Ubuntu, the icons do nothing.

I try to do a reset system enters the reader, but which does nothing. When the player is turned on, it is said to free at least 6 MB. Which is funny because I checked and there is no songs, recordings or anything like that. It was all wiped out in formatting.

On the information screen it says:

    Version 01.01.11A

    Memory 0 MB

    Free 0 MB

    Songs 0

    Voice recordings 0

    Records FM 0

I changed MTP Meteorological Service of the Canada (or perhaps vice versa) and windows 7 would then call him by his name (as "San Disk Sansa e260" instead of just "unknown device") on the small installation dialog box. Which is encouraging. But of course, the problem persists.

So did affect my player forever? Is there some sort of reset major I can do full?

    Thank you!!

Looks like the unit is in communication, according to your description.  Mode MSC, it will appear as two logical drives, the internal memory is the first and the microSD card post as the second.  In MTP mode, it will be as a device ID so that access you it through Windows Explorer.

You have a Windows 7 platform to work with, you can put the device in MSC mode and check the volume for errors.  This can be found via the option Manage in my computer, or by using the chkdsk command line utility in Windows.

01.01.11 version is the oldest e200 firmware.  Perhaps, you could install the latest firmware, version 24 here.  I would try using Recovery Mode, you can also format the device using the internal format of the units.

Since you talk about Ubuntu, I can assume that you are at least somewhat competent to tinker.  The only case where the device may be zorched is if the reserved partition is formatted in Recovery Mode, then Ubuntu is the tool of choice, using e200tool.

To retrieve the device, shart with it off and slide the HOLD switch on the e200 to right (orange list).  Press in and hold the REC button of the side laft in the connection (or log in recovery mode to turn on the unit with the REC button still depressed, then connect).

A word of warning!  The device using Windows Explorer, you'll see a new icon, 16 MB FORMAT.  Do NOT attempt to format the partition using the command Format Windows, because it clears the critical data!

Double-click the 16 MB FORMAT icon to open the reserved partition.

Since the thread that I linked above, download the two files and unzip them.  Place these two files in the open window, the pp5022.mi4 and BL_SD.rom and add a new twist: right click and select new folder. Rename this folder sansa.fmt and leave this empty file along side the two firmware files.

Replace the left hold switch and unplug.  Your e200 will update and reformat in one step.

If all else fails, time for some Potatoes.  Your machine NAND flash module is on a daughter card.  It can unplug it!  Remove the back cover and look at the top, a raised rectangle.  In this context, you will see a gray foam block.  Give him a gentle push down to reinstall the connector on the circuit board.

  • Card MicroSD of Sansa e260 fails

I want to insert a 4 GB MicroSD card in my Sansa e260, but it does not recognize. The Sansa e260 has some kind of limits, because I couldn't find anywhere in the manual.

If I use a 2 GB MicroSD card so it works, but not 4 GB.

The 4 GB card works... Tested on my phone and are formatted in FAT and FAT32 once.

    Thanks in advance

Version 1 (v1) series e200 (distinguished by the version of the firmware with a 01) models, confined to format SD cards, the largest of which is 2 GB, unless you want to install the 3 rd-party firmware, alternative open source called Rockbox.

V2 models can handle the SDHC (high capacity) format memory cards, 4 GB and up to the current maximum of 16 GB in native mode. The v2 are identified by their version of firmware starting with a 03.

Looks like you have a v1 model.

  • Sansa e260

I am having major problems with my sansa e260. I've had for over a year with no problems, but now I am unable to sync with Windows Media Player. When I sync the songs to the player, and then when I try to play the title, it says bad track. I tried to delete all the music from him, but my files are stuck with random files with names of symbols such as "yg" E "which cannot be deleted. They take on nearly 2.5 from my memory and I can't delete them. It almost seems like a virus, and I download all my music legally through Napster. Is it possible to completely reset the device or is it lost?

In settings, choose the USB mode (MTP, Meteorological Service of Canada, or vice versa) and see if the traces can be found in my computer or computer. Your computer cannot see a mode at a time.

To clear everything off, put it in MSC mode, plug it, find the first of the two drives in my computer or computer, do a right click on it and Format in FAT32 (not Quickformat). Which wipes everything, but let only system files.

  • MicroSD Max Size and how it works - e260

I have the agreement woot.com e260.  Sorry if I'm a nub assignment but I have to start somewhere.  I'm in the 01.02.24A version.  I wonder if there is a MicroSD card of maximum size that I can use with this device.  Also, once I have the card in my e260 with loaded music interface will change at all with regard to the way in which you access?  For example, if I have some songs on the built-in memory and others on the MicroSD if they appeared perfectly all in the interface of the music?

The maximum size of a v1 unit card is 2 GB.

Under settings, there is one for USB mode.

MTP mode, working with Windows Media Player, see only the internal memory. MSC mode will show the memory like a flash drive and the memory of the card to the next drive. The Sansa will see any music transferred in both modes, but it is easier for you to use one or the other.

When the songs are listed, those on the card will be an icon of the card beside them. Otherwise, they will behave identically.

If you like computer geekness, you can get Rockbox

and use a larger MicroSDHC card, but you will need to complete the map of greater with a card reader (or a location on your computer, if he has one). Rockbox makes the Sansa a dual-boot device; you still need the original Sansa firmware to transfer music, because Rockbox can not do the USB connection. The original Sansa firmware will not always read the larger map.

  • My music is, but I can not play on my e260

That's what I was doing. My e260 is stuck so I downloaded something about, I found on the web, updated)
    ( http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/D...fw01.00.12.exe). Yes, a former.

The refreshing problem has been resolved, BUT I can't play my music. My computer says that the memory of my e260 is almost full (also said it on the info on the sansa), with all my music I had before I downloaded this version (E:\MUSIC), but I just like artist 3, I had more than 100. I can play on rapsody, I can get if I open the 'Music' folder on my sansa, but the music does not appear ON the drive on the sansa software.

I used differet improvements I found and nothing, it is the same, no music.

What can I do? Please help me, my appeared at my job is bored super.

    Please, I beg you.

To see the music on your computer, go to settings/USB Mode and change mode. You can see the music which has been transferred in a mode both - MTP or MSC, not both. It's just for your computer - it should appear on the Sansa.

Search for your music into the unknown. There may be bad ID3 tags. Here is the ID3 tags.

  • Desirable features (e260)

I recently bought a Clip and then bought an e260. When you use the 260, I realized that a lot of features that the Clip has miss him, and I really liked that some of them, even if they are not all that important. I realize that Rockbox adds... probably all of these features, but I tried it and I don't like the program. I prefer to use what it came with. How many times the upgrades are released? They implement features that ask the community? Because I would really really like some added features. On the top of my head, some features on the clip that I don't have the 260 are:

    * Cannot delete songs directly from the player. I searched the forum and found threads on this, but what I'm not clear on is this something function it is possible to add in a firmware update, or not? If this is the case, I can't believe that it has not already been added, I find it so annoying to have to connect to the PC to delete something.

    * If you check the system information about the Clip, a percentage is displayed to indicate your remaining battery power, while the e260 shows only a battery symbol. It is something I would especially added to the 260.

    * When you turn off the Sansa and turn it back on, some things are not "memory." For example, the Clip remembers what you have your volume on last, while the 260 it resets. It's something small, but it still irks me.

    * On the Clip, if you are on the song B and hold the rewind button, it will continue until the end of the song after spending the beginning of the song B. You can do this on the e260.

    * The clamp has a feature "hold" where you can set how to size a song or add it to your GoList, if you hold down the middle button. As far as I know, there is no way to do it on the 260.

That's all I see for now, but nobody knows if each of these features are being introduced? Or where I can recommend that they are?

A last thing that bothers me is video playback. Should not be a way to sweep or search through video, so that if I have an output (intentionally or accidentally) I have a way to move quickly?

This is possible on the v2 e200 series & the "rocket".

This was added in the latest version of firmware Fuze a week ago. When nobody is "missed" this feature on the "rocket" with the previous version of the firmware, now it seems that people are complaining that SanDisk hidden in the INFO screen, rather than display on the main screen alongside (or instead of) the battery icon.

I swear, some people would be b! TCH, if they were hung with a new cable.

I don't really pay attention, but I think that this could also be on the v2 & detonators. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

    * On the Clip, if you are on the song B and hold the rewind button, it will continue until the end of the song after spending the beginning of the song B. You can do this on the e260.

Never had the need (or desire) to do this can't talk to her.

Also on the v2 & Fuze.

Video bookmarks are on the "rocket".

As you can see, SanDisk has integrated some of the most popular & successful features/functions of one player in others. Regarding firmware updates to add them to the e200 series? I think (and this is only my humble opinion) that we peut see one for the v2 units, but it is uncertain for the v1. However, we can hope!

Some features and functions are easily "transcribed" from one platform to the other, some are not. There is no 1 model with ALL the 'bells & whistles' (although the rocket comes close... very close). There must be some differences between the models other than the size of the memory only, otherwise there would be no need for additional models.

The Clip has some nifty features and it is 'too cute', but it doesn't have a memory card expansion slot and a smaller screen, so even covers and videos are not available.

The "rocket", on the other hand, has more screen (along with the e200 series) so video games are an option, but overall is also larger (about twice the size). And of course it doesn't have the "Clip."

Bottom line, there are different players with different characteristics for different people with different needs. It's just the way it is.
