  The contacts must exist in the address book that you create the mailing list.
  After that make sure that the directory pane is turned on and displays it in the address book window. If it does not, the menu bar, select pane display-in page-directory

  "The e-mail list" means the list of messages, or the list of e-mail addresses stored in your address book?

  I don't know of any setting to automatically shorten the names in this way. I wonder if it's simply that a column was made too narrow and now has a place for the part of the name.

  Columns where the e-mail addresses and names of peoples appear generally have a button at the top. It may not look like a button. But you can usually enter its edges with a mouse and drag it to make it wider. Or in the case of Contacts Sidebar left when you write a message, you can move the vertical part of the frame and the Panel throughout the wider site. Yet once you drag with the mouse.

Requested because a friend is having problems with MS Outlook by limiting the number of e-mails it can sent at the same time and both its ISP & MS say that the other is responsible for the problem.   Just a simple answer. There is none.

  A more complex answer is that Thunderbird has no limits, nor does Outlook if I remember correctly. However, email providers have almost universally limits, but what they are is fully defined by the supplier in question. I am aware of the limits as little as 5 and as high as 200.

  Certain limits are really complex, a provider of account of all addresses in a list, and CC ' ed and Bcc'ed and you are limited to only so an hour. If someday a list will work, the next day, after you meet some other emails it's not because you have exceeded their limit to make it on time. Google has a daily limit. But it depends if you are a business customer or a free client. It is also different in business accounting, if the emails are processed internally to your domain or outside the Internet in general.

  Maybe your friend you need to use a service like mailchimp to avoid spam ISP limiting rules.

  You cannot send mailing lists.

  You can export the content of a mailing list in a file and send the file to someone else. They should use the contact information in the file to import it into their address book, and then create a mailing list.

  The export command is under tools in the address book window. Find out what kind of file, customer email receivers can work with and send them this type of file.
