Empty folders "masters" and "clones" on the data store

Clean an old data store, so I can get back to the place of SAN, I migrated all the models and virtual computers out of the data store (and deleted empty folders that leaves behind migration.  (Grrr...).  There are two empty folders left on this data store, called "clones" and "masters".  Nobody here knows how they got there, but they look like type system.  Anyone know if they are system files that may be moved or may be deleted?  (Screen attached)

no system records, if they are empty it is safe to delete.

  • Migration of virtual machines from a data store, and then delete the data store?

    Hello

    I have a future deployment this month and my Director wants to build a new RAID 6 array, create a store of data with the new table and then move all the VMS to the newly created data store.

    Then he asked me to take the old data store and remove it and the available space between the deleted data store and other stores of data in our shared environment. The question is when the new raid is created and vm has migrated to the new data store, which is the best way to remove the data store empty and make sure that the space available for other data stores? Any help would be appreciated...

    Greg ~.

    If all controls are met, you can go ahead and take it apart without any problem.

    I have re-iterate below checks:

    -No virtual machine is in the data store

    -The data store is not part of the cluster data store

    -The data store is not managed by the DRS storage

    -IGCS is disabled for this data store

    -The data store is not used for vSphere HA heartbeat.

    Especially highlighted 2 controls. Please note that SIOC can be enabled on the data without SDR photo store

  • Script to get VM list and count on the data store

    Hi all

    I have a script of lining that gives me the number of virtual machines on the data store, I was looking for both number of virtual machines more VM names too.

    Get-Datastore. Select Name, @{N = "NumVM"; E={@($_ | Get - VM). County}} | Sort name | Export-csv-path "C:\Users\userA\Desktop\Cluster_Host_Report\datastorevmcount.csv".

    the above script gives not only. or the number of virtual machines on the datastore in VC, can we get that all virtual machines are there on the VC data store.

    Thanks in advance a ton.

    The ForEach loop do not place anything on the pipeline, you can fix this with the call operator (and)

    & {{foreach ($ds in Get-data store)

    Get - VM - Datastore $ds |

    Select Name,

    @{N = "Datastore"; E = {$ds. Name}},

    @{N = "VM on the data store"; E = {$ds. ExtensionData.Vm.Count}}

    }} | Export Csv report.csv - NoTypeInformation - UseCulture

    Is it possible to use autosize, as the data store long filenames trunctes.

    Try Autosize

    Get - VM (Get-content c:\temp\vms.txt). Select-Object - property @{Name = "VMName"; Expression = {$_.} Name}},VMHost,@{name='ClusterName'; Expression = {$_.} VMHost.Parent}}, @{"Name" = "Datastore"; expression = {($_.)} DatastoreIDList | %{(Get-View-nom de la propriété-Id $_). Name}) - join ","}} | FT - AutoSize

    Try packing?

    Get - VM (Get-content c:\temp\vms.txt). Select-Object - property @{Name = "VMName"; Expression = {$_.} Name}},VMHost,@{name='ClusterName'; Expression = {$_.} VMHost.Parent}}, @{"Name" = "Datastore"; expression = {($_.)} DatastoreIDList | %{(Get-View-nom de la propriété-Id $_). Name}) - join ","}} | FT-Wrap

    If possible, can we use tri-objet with the names of virtual machine?

    Yes, just direct to Sort-Object

    Get - VM (Get-content c:\temp\vms.txt). Select-Object - property @{Name = "VMName"; Expression = {$_.} Name}},VMHost,@{name='ClusterName'; Expression = {$_.} VMHost.Parent}}, @{"Name" = "Datastore"; expression = {($_.)} DatastoreIDList | %{(Get-View-nom de la propriété-Id $_).     Also, can we use export-csv to export put it to Excel?

    Yes, just direct to Export-CSV

    Get - VM (Get-content c:\temp\vms.txt). Select-Object - property @{Name = "VMName"; Expression = {$_.} Name}},VMHost,@{name='ClusterName'; Expression = {$_.} VMHost.Parent}}, @{"Name" = "Datastore"; expression = {($_.)} DatastoreIDList | %{(Get-View-nom de la propriété-Id $_).   • local storage in the data store

    I have 4 ESXi 5.5 cluster nodes (host1, 2... 5) + 3par storage, I noticed that the local drive of host2 is detected as a data store.

    When I create a VM and I choose the data store, I can see all data related to my on3par LUN stores but it seems this drive local host2 too!

    I would like to remove it! Can you offer me please?

    You must hide hide this data store using permissions, you must run the following procedure: Open-> inventory-> warehouses vSphere-> select the select data-> permissions VMFS store-> click the user or group in the list and set them to 'No access' - are not propagated.

    Once achieve you its judgment showing everywhere.

  • The data store name already exists

    Hello

    I have 3 hosts in my group and I am trying to add a 4th. The host, I'm trying to add part of the cluster, but it was removed there because it has been used a few weeks somewhere else. I have since reinstalled ESX and try to add back to the cluster.

    When I try and add a NFS data store to the host named "NAS-storage" added it is automatically renamed to "NAS-storage (1)", if I try the rename without (1) I get an error message...  "The NAS-storage name already exists." 3 other guests are currently connected to the data without any problem store.

    How can I fix it?

    I tried to reboot the host, restart the service of railway infrastructure and to rename the data store on the other hosts to something else.

    Welcome to the forums.

    Make sure that you add the store of data with exactly the same name/IP address and the name of path as those mounted on other hosts

    You can get the correct mount point by running

    esxcfg-nas -l

  • Pass the data store VM 1-2

    What is the way easiest and safest to move a stored under Data Store 1 above to Data Store 2 virtual machine?

    Thank you.

    As long as the host can access the two data store, you can either use the CLI if you are uncomfortable or that you use the VI Client.

    For the VI Client, you would just connect directly to the host and click on the summary for the host tab. You see your data store to the right, double click on the data store that currently contains the virtual machine that you want to move and make sure that it is turned off. You can right click on your VM directory and you have an option to move and simply select the data store that you want to go to.

  • From LR6.1 to LR6.3: rename folders created are based on the date of importation rather than the date of shooting!

    I started using LR with version 2... My import workflow was even up to 6.1 and all my files are organized in the same way for more than 10 years.

    I went on LR6.2 given the changes made in the import dialog. But upgraded to LR6.3 think the problem has been resolved.

    But now I noticed that all my photos are renamed and placed in folders corresponding to the date of importation rather than the date of shooting... I rename my files from custom and is gone in this dialogue, but has not as how to restore LR import my photos using the date of shooting. This creates havoc on my hard drives and in LR. I use the date of shooting a lot to find my photos, since I often neglect to add keywords.

    I really need to be able to get the date of shooting on the behalf of my photos and have copied them in the folder the correct date.

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    BTW: something has changed in the way the forum appears. Research is not very powerful... it has not brought something, yet I know that the import dialog has been at length when 6.2 was introduced. In addition, I see no browser passed a few more recent messages. I don't like the new interface.

    Well, I answered my own question. Yes, I was looking for settings in the destination Panel... There is a line that shows what would change the name... and it showed the date of importation as the new name... but actually... It was only to show you what the name change would look like. Because I had a selected image, I thought it would show that the change of name for this image. But it is not related to the image... The import worked as expected... My apologies for disturbing him. .

  • What best practices to remove a host server data store without emptying the contents of the data store

    Hi all

    This question was probably asked a million times. the best practice to remove a host server data store without emptying the contents of the data store?

    I have two clusters and I moved host group A to group B. host A is now to see data from Cluster Both A store and Group B datastore. We want that host A to store data in Cluster B. The Cluster a data store is not and can not be empty coz VM A Cluster using data warehouses. So I just unpreset the data LUN to host A store and Reanalyze the data store? Or there is a better way to do it?

    Thank you all

    Yes that's what I meant - should have specified where virtual machines are running.

  • The good examples of the construction and analysis of the data in bytes?

    Hi all

    Very soon, I'll have to find a way to build messages to bytes to send to a serial port and a serial port to receive and review to the basis of events out of...

    However, before I delve into the complexities of the serial port communication and VISA, etc... I would just like to see some examples of working mainly with data of bytes.

    I found how to get a digital constant the byte value... the binary representations signed and unsigned, etc..

    However, if I could find a simple example or tutorial just to see how to assemble the byte-code... and how to analyze it, it would prove invaluable for me to study.  I've never really worked at the byte level / binary front... and a few examples with LV would be very practical.

    Anyone know of any good links out there something like this?

    I'll eventually be sending 5 bytes out I need to build... and will receive 9 bytes in, each of which I need to parse out and respond...

    Links or information GREATLY appreciated.  I'm pretty decent analysis of the chains, real expressions, etc... but never worked with the construction and analysis of the data in bytes.

    Thank you in advance,

    Cayenne

    If you are comfortable with binary data, you can use the Boolean charts. Look at the number of table Boolean and array Boolean functions numbers. Instead of masking with an AND, you can easy to use array index to check a bit particular.

  • Script in time of latency list vm e/s and the data store the virtual machine is on

    Hello.  We have a vsphere 5.0 environment and we live a latency of IO heavy.  I'm looking for powercli script will get the latency of i/o for each virtual machine and get the data store name, to what it is now.  We will access our storage on optical fiber.  I'm trying to get a good overview of the latency of IO in a nice view in a csv file.  I found what could be a good basis to https://communities.vmware.com/thread/304827?start=0 & tstart = 0 , but I'm not sure how to get the name of the data store in the table and I think that it is written to the nfs in any case storage.  Thanks in advance for any info\advice!

    Try the next version, it includes the average latency time read/write for the virtual machine and PAHO are / s average for the virtual machine.

    Since the CSV has a row for each data store, the values for the virtual machine are repeated.

    I also added the host name

    $vmName = "VM*"

    $stat = "datastore.totalReadLatency.average","datastore.totalWriteLatency.average",  "datastore.numberReadAveraged.average","datastore.numberWriteAveraged.average"$entity = Get-VM -Name $vmName$start = (Get-Date).AddHours(-1)

    $dsTab = @{}Get-Datastore | Where {$_.Type -eq "VMFS"} | %{  $key = $_.ExtensionData.Info.Vmfs.Uuid  if(!$dsTab.ContainsKey($key)){    $dsTab.Add($key,$_.Name)  }  else{    "Datastore $($_.Name) with UUID $key already in hash table"  }}

    Get-Stat -Entity $entity -Stat $stat -Start $start |Group-Object -Property {$_.Entity.Name} | %{  $vmName = $_.Values[0]  $VMReadLatency = $_.Group |    where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalReadLatency.average"} |    Measure-Object -Property Value -Average |    Select -ExpandProperty Average  $VMWriteLatency = $_.Group |    where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalWriteLatency.average"} |    Measure-Object -Property Value -Average |    Select -ExpandProperty Average  $VMReadIOPSAverage = $_.Group |    where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.numberReadAveraged.average"} |    Measure-Object -Property Value -Average |    Select -ExpandProperty Average  $VMWriteIOPSAverage = $_.Group |    where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.numberWriteAveraged.average"} |    Measure-Object -Property Value -Average |    Select -ExpandProperty Average  $_.Group | Group-Object -Property Instance | %{    New-Object PSObject -Property @{      VM = $vmName      Host = $_.Group[0].Entity.Host.Name      Datastore = $dsTab[$($_.Values[0])]      Start = $start      DSReadLatencyAvg = [math]::Round(($_.Group |           where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalReadLatency.average"} |          Measure-Object -Property Value -Average |          Select -ExpandProperty Average),2)      DSWriteLatencyAvg = [math]::Round(($_.Group |           where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalWriteLatency.average"} |          Measure-Object -Property Value -Average |          Select -ExpandProperty Average),2)      VMReadLatencyAvg = [math]::Round($VMReadLatency,2)      VMWriteLatencyAvg = [math]::Round($VMWriteLatency,2)      VMReadIOPSAvg = [math]::Round($VMReadIOPSAverage,2)      VMWriteIOPSAvg = [math]::Round($VMWriteIOPSAverage,2)    }  }} | Export-Csv c:\report.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

  • How to set vm-description/notes and get the name of the data store, where the virtual machine

    Hello guys,.
    I have vCenter Orchestrator 4.1.1 build 733 installed and it works fine, but I need your help for the following two issues:
    (1) I want to put the description/notes of a virtual machine using a workflow. But I have not found any API useful to create this workflow (I don't want custom attributes, see attachment for details).

    (2) how can I get the name of the data store, where the virtual machine? I need this name for a workflow.
    I need your help.
    Thanks in advance!

    With regard to the notes of the VM, the following code (see enclosed package) can do this:

    var oldNotes = vm.summary.config.annotation;
    If (oldNotes == null) {oldNotes = ' ' ;}}
    System.log ("Notes of VM current:" + oldNotes);
    Now put the new notes:
    Start by creating a context
    Context of var = new VcVirtualMachineConfigSpec();
    Update the annotation with the new value property
    configSpec.annotation = notes;
    launch the task to reconfigure the virtual machine with the new context
    NOTE: This is sure to apply with a virtual machine under tension
    var task = vm.reconfigVM_Task (configSpec);

    And, in what concerns the VM information, take a look at the workflow of the library: \Library\vCenter\Virtual Machine management\Others\Extract virtual machine information

    AZEL,

    Can you give us more details about your current environment?  What is the size and the data store space used? Do you have any storage of additional network attached to the host (for backup purposes)?

    My assumptions of your post do you have 1 stand-alone host with ESXi 4.1 aready installed and you also have a local data store on the same host, but you want to re - install ESXi 4.1 while keeping the contents fo the data store.  Is this correct?
