Enabling OAuth2 on GMail account existing (bug 1176773)

I just upgraded to Thunderbird 38.0.1 version 37.something, and I can't seem to get to work with my existing GMail account OAuth2.

My settings are:
Username: [email protected]
Server: imap.google.com
Port: 993
Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication: Normal password

It worked and still works fine. However if I then replace authentication OAuth2, save and restart Thunderbird, I receive the following error message when you try to visit my gmail account: 'IMAP server [email protected] does not support the selected authentication method.

I tried Googling, but I can't seem to find any word on how to configure with GMail beyond OAuth2 to market. So any ideas on how to get this working?

The name of the server must be imap.googlemail.com and smtp.googlemail.com respectively.

  • BlackBerry smartphones can not get contacts from gmail account * of * BB (OK I think the reverse)

Just got my torch last day... first BB for me. I've enabled IMAP on gmail account and went through routine quick (online) which allows for the BB. I saw that the synchronization of contacts has been checked and when I finished to activate the account on the BB it seemed I could see some sort of sync in progress, BUT it seems he went only one way which is BB FOR online gmail account. Thus, the 300 contacts email on my online gmail account did not go to the TORCH.

These contacts, I can see on my Torch are the 52 I had brought through Outlook a few days earlier using Blackberry Desktop V6 with the torch that is physically connected to the laptop.

I have checked the filters and I see PERSONAL and BUSINESS, and both are disabled.

I don't know if it's related but I think I've noticed in the short time I used the TORCH display new emails from gmail in question account, I would have thought that the sender's e-mail address would have been automatically added to the 52 "existing" BB Contacts, but always just the original 52.

Where these 300 gmail contacts will, if they met, at the TORCH.

    Any ideas?

    Hey Copperbeech,.

I looked into this question for you, currently Gmail contact limits of wireless synchronization and synchronize only the 'My contacts' and does not synchronize the "all Contacts". A possible work around that would be to copy the contacts to "my contacts".

  • Why thunderbird changed the way it uses the passwords of gmail accounts?

I had put Tbird in place to always ask for a password for each account. That's always good. I could get into my gmail accounts by entering a password every time. My passwords on Tbird have not been registered. A couple of days, I had to reinstall Tbird after a computer problem. I logged into my gmail account and said not to save the password. When I logged on today it cowardly to remember passwords. I deleted them. When it tried to access accounts instead of simply ask a password he has known a rigmarole of 'connection via the gmail account' and I had confirm that Tbird is allowed to access gmail. An extra step every time, boring, but not terminal. BUT Tbird and then SAVES PASSWORDS, leaving my email accounts exposed, it's much more serious. I tried to remove the passwords, but then we went through the whole process and he did save yet. I don't want to add one master password (yet another thing to forget). I don't want Tbird automatically connect to each account every time that I load it. I DON'T want to control what he reads, and when he reads. What can I do to return to the configuration of the old?

Since the version of Thunderbird 38 uses OAuth2 for authentication of Gmail accounts. It is the only way to be considered "safe" by Google.
    http://TechCrunch.com/2012/09/17/Google-OAuth-2-0-for-Gmail-and-talk/

Basically, you authenticate with your Gmail account, once, and Google provides you with an authentication token. That's what Thunderbird records under "password". It is not your Gmail password. The token will expire at some point, you will need to again in the future.

If you want to revert to the old behavior allows Google you jump through some hoops.
You must allow 'less safe apps' in Google, or turn your settings on 2 stages of authentication in the context of a specific application password.

In Thunderbird, account settings change "authentication type" "normal password" for your Gmail account.

  • Password not recognized for the new Gmail account

My gmail account ID / password is not recognized by Thunderbird. It worked, but somehow it has suddenly stopped working (not able to receive or send emails and just make an hourglass whenever I select any folder in the account).

    Some other details:

. I use Thunderbird 38 (could the upgrade caused the problem?).
. I tried to remove and re-add the account. It connects fine, but does not recognize the username/password.
. I did some Google 2-step of checking is turned off.
. I deleted the Google Contacts.
. I checked that access for less secure applications is disabled in Google (even though I believe that Thunderbird 38 should not require this).

I followed all the steps I find Google search, including the https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-gmailsite. Nothing seems to help.

I'm up a Creek. I like Thunderbird (use it for multiple e-mail accounts), but hair pulling try that it works - and it takes too long. Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

    account15:
    ENTRANTS: account15, (imap) imap.googlemail.com:993, SSL, OAuth2
    OUTBOUND: smtp.googlemail.com:587, SSL, passwordCleartext, true

You will need to set OAuth2 authentication for the SMTP server as well.

  • I have 2 Gmail accounts that I use Thunderbird to work with. Suddenly, one of the accounts has stopped working (password requests).

For a year I used without problem Thunderbird to work with two of my Gmail accounts without problems.
I had been on a long trip for the last 2 weeks had not begun to Thunderbird. When I did it for the first time this morning, I couldn't work or another account with it.

Reset, return all settings solved the problem for ONE of my accounts (the main!), but the other continues to refuse to work.
Yes, I have IMAP and less secure device permissions enabled in the Gmail settings. I changed my passwords and their update on all ends and again, my main account works, but the other refuses to accept passwords, even though I know they are correct.

I still get the "cannot connect to server imap.gmail.com ." Message and I am prompted for my password.

    No luck.

  • Problem with the mail app / Gmail account to reply to an email

    Hi all

whenever I try to send a response to an email in my Gmail on my Palm Pre2 (webOS 2.1) email account would be in a folder called "Outbox" and nothing is sent - I use the email app, I don't use a gmail.com. The "Outbox" folder is not synchronized with the IMAP server.

How can I fix it / is this a bug?

    hmarcy,

Have you tried to remove the gmail account and add it again? If this does not work, try to verify the settings that you use for your gmail account.

    1. go to the e-mail application

    2. press on the upper left corner which should say "email".

    3. Select 'Preferences and accounts '.

    4. Select 'Google' under accounts

5 scroll down to "change connection settings.

    6. Select "Manual Configuration".

    7. make sure that the incoming mail server says 'imap.gmail.com', that username is correct "username @gmail.com", retype your password, encryption is set to 'SSL', port is set to '993. '

"8 make sure that the outgoing mail server says" smtp.gmail.com, ' 'use authentication' is set on "on", again to surey our user name and password, encryption is set to 'SSL', port is set to "465".

    I hope this helps.

  • Firefox cannot sign out of hotmail, yahoo and gmail account

When you want to log out after you're done working on your yahoo, hotmail and gmail account, it is not possible to close the session. I had been facing this problem for three days now.

This problem may be caused by corrupted cookies.

Clear the cache and cookies from sites that cause problems.

    "Clear the Cache":

    • Tools > Options > advanced > network > storage (Cache) offline: 'clear now '.

    'Delete Cookies' sites causing problems:

    • Tools > Options > privacy > Cookies: "show the Cookies".

If clearing cookies doesn't help, then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.sqlite - journal and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Firefox profile folder where the cookies.sqlite file has been corrupted.

  • Try to connect Outlook 2003 to my gmail account

I am trying to connect Outlook 2003 to my gmail - Vista as an operating system account; However, I keep getting an error message that says that Outlook could not connect to the server of outgoing (SMTP) mail. I checked the configuration of both the POP3 (995) and SMTP (465), which have the parameters required by gmail.

If you care to compare your entries with the following...
The following is extracted from MS Office Online:
I guess you had no problem on step #3?
    Have you checked step #14?

To use your Gmail e-mail account in Outlook, you must make sure that the POP3 support is enabled in Gmail, and then you can add it to Outlook.

    1. Sign in to your Gmail account.
    2. The top of Gmail, click settings.
    3. In the e-mail settings window, click transfer and POP.

I don't see transfer and POP

Gmail turns on support for POP3 users in phases. If transfer and POP does not appear, your Gmail account cannot be configured for POP3 support.

    4. In the POP download section, select enable POP protocol or all messages or Activate the Protocol POP only for messages coming in the future.
    5. Click Save settings.
    6. In Outlook, on the Tools menu, click e-mail accounts.
    7. Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
    8. Click POP3, and then click Next.
    9. Under user information, follow these steps:
      1. In the your name box, type your full name the way you want it to appear to other people.
      2. In the e-mail address box, type your username to follow-up e-mail to @gmail.com.
    10. Under Server information, do the following:
      1. In the Incoming mail server (POP3) box, type pop.gmail.com.
      2. Mail server outgoing (SMTP) , enter smtp. Gmail.com.
    11. Under connection information, follow these steps:
      1. In the user name box, type your full e-mail address, including @gmail.com.
      2. In the password box, type your password.
      3. Check the Remember password box.

Note  You can ask to have Outlook remember your password by typing in the password box and selecting the box Remember password . Having Outlook remember your password means that you won't have to type your password every time you access the account. However, it also means that the account is vulnerable to anyone who has access to your computer. Use strong passwords that combine uppercase and lowercase words, numbers, and symbols. Weak passwords don't mix these elements. Strong password: Y6dh! and 5. Weak password: Maison27. Use a password that you can remember so that you don't have to write.
