  • Migration Application EPMA classical planning

    Hello world

I already googled this question, but found no important information. So, can someone help me on this?

I have been asked to convert a Hyperion Planning of the structure of EPMA application classic planning.  I already know that there is an assistant in workspcae where you can convert the EPMA classic, but I'm not sure if it is possible to convert it back in a classic.

Is this possible with this wizard, or there is no way to do it?

    Thanks in advance

    Concerning

There is no wizard to convert, in the planning system database, HSPSYS_PROPERTIES there is a property_name called EDIT_DIM_ENABLED, if it is in EPMA mode it is set to false, in classic it is true.

In this table, the properties are by application, you will need to find the application = HSPSYS_APPLICATION and match match id to the property-ID and this will give the necessary information change the value.

All the changes that require a reboot.

Please note that this does not remove it EPMA you work a process to remove what for example delete the app, rebuild, etc.

  • Compare EPMA Classic

I start a planning project, the data will be 12G and it can increase 15 g in the future. I use Windows Server 2003, there are only 15 users and it can goes up to 25 users in the future. I have 3 servers, 1 is for Essbase, 1 is for SQL, is 1 for the purposes of Hyerion. Just think, we have only 15 to 25 users and data 15G, I think that we do not need to use the EMPA, just use the conventional planning. Please advise and correct me, thank you!

It depends on how you want to manage your metadata and what is the source of the data.

If the source is say a warehouse or metadata must turn then I would go the classic route and watch using ODI.
If it's simple hierarchies of csv files, you can also follow the conventional path and use the contour loader utility.

If you want to manage your metadata via a gui improved compared to conventional dimensions and sharing between applications, then I would take the road of EPMA.
The thing to watch with at the moment with EPMA is when you have large hierarchies to load because the process can slow down.

I would like to go into details, but I do not know the classic epma vs keeps popping up and it feels like going round and round in circles sometimes :)

I would like to keep away from EPMA and essbase for now however.

  • UDA in vs EPMA classical planning

    Hi guys,.

I have a question about the dimension of the UDA for best practices in applications of EPMA, I used the UDA in conventional applications, but now I'm about to use in EPMA, and I have the following case:

I want to assign UDAs to a number of dimensions (account, Version and a few custom dimensions).

My question is, is it okay to create a single dimension of the UDA and associate it with the other dimensions (as an Alias) or is it better to create a separate UDA for each dimension? (UDA, Version UDA account and so on).

    Appreciate your comments.

    See you soon,.
    Omar

    Hello
I don't think that there is a noticeable difference. You are able to associate a single dimension of the UDA in multiple dimensions, it may be wise to keep everything in size even if you do not have too many of them.

    Hi Kostas

Thanks for the snippet, it is convenient. My problem was mainly related to the characteristic use of the architect from the classic to the EPMA.

I ended the problem of my creating ADS the classic file creation EPMA Shell and reloading, security etc., data forms, grids, dimensions.

Just to give some information, it could have been our application only that I saw no problem classic conversion EPMA using the sample application,

Our application was built in EPMA and worked very well but problem was GestionnaireCalc not to validate the size of accounts.

so I had to convert EPMA-> Classic-> back EPMA to solve this problem.

We use the EMP 11.1.2.2.104 Patch as an info.

  • HFM classic app

    Hi guys,.

We currently have a huge classical HFM application running on v11.1.2.1. We believe upgrade to 11.1.2.3. I know that HFM now using EPMA in latest versions instead of the classic, but I would like to know if we are heading to 11.1.2.3... will we be forced to change our application of EPMA classic? 11.1.2.3 supports the classic hfm applications?

    Hello

I have not yet Explorer on 11.1.2.3, but for 11.1.2.2, you can still use Classic applications.

  • EMPA vs classical planning

I'll put up another new project planning, we have 1000-10000 users, the data records will be charged by millions during the night. I use ODI-utility or a schema. We have only one project of planning. Although I use ODI, data will be transferred from RLDB to Essbase directly, even if I use the classic planning, I don't use the related adapter. I think to use the conventional planning, ODI does not work with EPMA, and data loading will be very slow if we use EPMA. The question is: we have too many users, and I don't know if there is a significant difference between the performance between the EMPA and the classic planning when we have a large number of users at the same time. Please advise and correct me, thank you!

    Published by: user2571802 on March 3, 2010 20:06

    Hello

Ignore the data side can be loaded directly into essbase, the number of users isn't really a classic problem of epma vs is more than a debate of the infrastructure, EPMA separated planning, users will still access planning and not EPMA except to say only a few who can manage hierarchies.
As I said in your previous post about EPMA classic vs it can boil to how you want to manage your metadata, if your metadata (I hear by it's your hierarchies) are from a warehouse or need of transformation then classic and ODI may be the way, simple hierarchies may still be classic and managed by the contour loader.
The performance at the moment with EPMA issue is if you attempt to load large hiearchies of files it can be slow.
What I suggest, is to build a proof of concept or to become familiar with the EPMA, see if this is the product for you.

  • Issue business rules - cannot associate planning in environmental assessments (11.1.2.0)

    Hello

I am facing a problem when I try to associate a rule of planning business in the EA. When I try to develop the planning node to find our application to associate, I don't see anything under the node of the planning.

Another thing that is strange is that I do not see that planning has added to the location node under Administration on the view of the company, but when I go to the "Locations" tab on my business rule and try to add the same planning repeats, and I am not able to do.

In addition, I'm unable to see my business rule in Planning and no wonder, it's because I'm not able to associate the business rule to my plan of implementation planning in EAS and the appropriate location is not added.

I spend two other messages in the forum which discusses a similar problem and made sure I actually assigned access to myself. Also, I use an administrator account. I also tried to restart the services that they suggested in some messages of the forum and also in the document "Troubleshooting with Business rules Issues" on the Oracle Web site, but it did not help. I don't know what goes wrong and that is what I am missing which is continues to cause this problem.

Please help me with your ideas and I would like to know how to solve this problem.
    Thank you!

Is it EPMA then you will need to use the calc Manager, if one is your request or EPMA, classical planning are you sure that you have created the application to use business rules and not Manager Calc.

  • Request EPMA or classic

    Hi all

It is a difficult question... you prefer applications EPMA or classic?

    Thank you

    Thanos

    Hello Thanos,

Excellent question and one that guarantees usually a bit of discussion.  There are many ways to manage the metadata, so a good idea is to expose the features/functionality of each and comparison with the requirements of the applications concerned.  When this is done, it is usually pretty clear of what management tool to use (Classic, EPMA, Excel Macros, DRM, EPMware, Orchestra of the Oracle, etc.).  Each have associated costs, risks and the features that might make it advantageous in certain circumstances.

For example, a single application sharing is not all the metadata would be probably better off using classic, especially now that the Classic metadata changes are recorded from 11.1.2.3.  For the best transaction logging and sharing of dimensions between several applications, EPMA, or one of the other products could be used.  With other functionality comes additional issues - EPMA is included, but there is a cost for DRM, EPMware, etc.  There are also questions that come when installing any new module - there will be bugs, new newspapers to be monitored, a learning curve, etc..  Some processes require strict validation and governance and manage metadata about non-EPMA and non-Oracle products.  DRM is ideal for this.

In short, I think that it depends on.  I'm a fan of each of them and would not discourage the use of any.  All do a really good job of what they are advertised to do.

    Thank you

  • EPMA Essbase vs Classic Essbase | Better question practice

    Hi all

Having no formal training on the theme of EPMA, but with the experience of its use as well as planning, I am aware that the deployment in EPMA is destructive to all content created manually in the Essbase application under it.

for example when you make manually added a full deployment, all calculation scripts will be deleted.

I now questions about the EPMA Essbase applications:

    1. As is Essbase deployment similar destructive EPMA planning?
    2. All the contents of the application must also reside in the Manager of EPMA and calculation? Is it possible to use only the EPMA to control basic data and do all the other actions in Essbase?
    3. I see a real added value of the use of EPMA for one of my clients but if scared (I) may have to tell them to migrate all of their scripts of the Essbase administration console to the calculation Manager. As such, it will be difficult to find the value of the switch for them.
    4. What Essbase studio? I'm not aware of any need for Essbase studio as part of an implementation of planning EPMA, but what Essbase EPMA? It's a must-do, advised or just nice to have?

Appreciate very much all the advice in this context.

    Erik

It depends on what you mean by destructive, if you mean he suffers from the same sort of problems then Yes, personally I find it difficult to understand the benefits of moving away from classical way of maintaining applications essbase for EPMA successful world, just my opinion.

You should be able to see using calc scripts in the same way as before and same goes for other features.

Essbase Studio is required as EPMA uses part of the line of code to deploy Essbase applications.

  • Taskflows migrating an application of EPMA HFM to a classic

    Hi guys,.

I have asked me to migrate the taskflows in an application created with EPMA to a classic. Since this is the first time that I do this, I wanted to know if it is possible to do, and if you can recommend measures to make (some 'best practices' ;)))

Without a doubt, I would start to direct to the data model in an attempt to find the table suitable for extracting workflow information, but there is probably a better way.

  • EPMA / calculation Manager vs Classic

    Hi all

I recently placed on planning a few weeks ago. I attended the training "Create and manage an Application" of Oracle Oracle planning 11.1.2. This is the extent of my knowledge of essbase and planning. Before the training, I reviewed the eKit and noticed that we had no EPMA and Calc Manager installed. We have essbase installed on solaris and planning, shared services, rmi, Foundation etc. installed on a solaris Server also. Because the report server did not run on solaris, it is on a server separate windows 2008. More than 3 days of our training that focused on EPMA and calculation Manager. It seems that the majority of the documentation reference Manager EPMA and not classic calculation. I would like to solicit opinions. It seems that the decision to install Configuration Manager and EPMA and use them as we move forward would be a slam dunk. There is some hesitation due to the fact that we can "ruin something" if we migrate and that we could not go back to where we were. Can I install EPMA and Configuration manager on the report server and not look back? Is it possible easily enough?

One last question - prod - I usually put the Essbase MaxL db mode archive and run an export to the file system. What happens if I import in development? Where the Planning, shared SVC and Essbase together? If I migrate my planning and Shared Services app, I'm done.

    Sincerely,

    Blind man without a cane

  • LCM - only for EPMA or Classic apps apps too?

Is LCM EPMA only for applications or can it be used for the classic too? We are only EPMA, but have a question asked by the customer on the best practices for migrating applications in environments if they are 'Classic'. I think that LCM is ok...

It can be used for classic and epma.

  • ODI classic planning or of EPMA

    Hi John,.

Please let me know the EPMA operating limits and benefits of ODI with respect to the hierarchy and the loading data?

Could we automate Using interface tables or files .adl to load the metadata and data in EPMA?

Waiting for your answer as usual

    Thank you
    Sravan

With EPMA, you are limited to the use of interface tables which can be difficult to manage.
You can load the data directly into essbase, so no matter whether it's classic or EPMA.

Personally if you want to use ODI and do transformations and can manage all your metadata in this way I would go to the bottom of the classic route.

  • Administration application classics vs EPMA

I would like to know who is considered "best practice" to create and maintain applications HFM (Version 11.1.1.3) - is - this classic Administration or EPMA?

The classic Administration has been more reliable compared to the EPMA. You can find out through known bugs / issues of the EPMA Readme doc. EPMA has some advantages such as copy sync function and it is easy to create dimensions and load members. But most of the people in the world of Hyperion would rather go the classical Administration.
