Error code 39 continues...

I have a Dell XPS 1210, using Windows XP Professional with service pack.  The player in question is TSST corp DVD +-RW TS - L632D.

I followed the previous steps mentioned, including the "resource cd" method, the drivers page on Dell's Support site, remove upper and lower filters, uninstall the driver (scanning for hardward updates) and after each method, it reappears in the Manager section of the device with the yellow exclamation point and code 39.

Even if, after using the F12 method, it identified as "F:", the dvd player, the error code 39 will not disappear.  I scanned the computer for viruses; no viruses were found.

The drive passed all tests administered after the method of "F12".

Many previous messages see Roxio Creator.  This program came with your computer, but I've never used.

I did several searches on Yahoo and Google and come up with the same methods I've tried.

I would like to know an another alternative, short of reinstalling the entire operating system.  Any advice would be appreciated.
