  I was warned by Windows Update I got Microsoft Office 6 "Major updates" dealing with security to download and install.  I am running Vista Home Premium operating system.

  6 updates are listed here:

  I tried several times to download and install the automatic updates of Microsoft Office 2007, however, they have failed repeatedly to install.  When this happens, I get error Code 646  Microsoft Office Publisher 2003, which is no longer on my computer, is offered several times for me.  I would appreciate your comments on this issue.   I had to disable the "User Account Control" (UAC), which allows you to run as administrator in Vista.  After that I turned it off, all 4 of these updates installed and it doesn't require manual installation.   Follow these steps:

  In the case of Vista view:

  1.) go to start; Control Panel; "User accounts and family safety"; User accounts.
  2.) click on 'Enable user account control or disable' (last point on the page)
  3.) clear the checkbox "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer" and click "OK."
  4.) restart the computer, and then run the installation of the system and they work.

  If you are in Classic view:

  1.) go to start; Control Panel; Security Center
  2 screen.) in the "Windows Security Center", go to the last item "User Account Control" and click the button to turn off.

  You can also see the security shield in your Start menu.  You can also access the UAC via this.

  After that the installation of the system have been updated, make sure that you go back and turn the UAC "" and then restart your computer so that unauthorized updates do not occur.   Always try this turn off if install doesn't work.
