  Summary of the issue:

  We are aware of a potential problem that you may experience with the latest updates to Office security.   When you install these updates, the Windows Update control panel returns the error 646 or 0 x 80070646.

  Technical details:

  Error 0 x 80070646 or 646 is a MSI installer error that won't happen when the updates are installed via the Windows Update control panel.  Workaround solution previous to solve the immediate problem requires the installation of the update to a standalone package starting from Microsoft Download Center.  We do not recommend this workaround solution.

  If the Windows Installer logging is enabled, the following line must be identified as a symptom:

  Error 1606. Could access the location %APPDATA%\ network

   

  Cause:

  The problem is potentially a result of an incompatible, incorrect environment (%AppData%) as variable shown below:

  Solution:

  1. open the registry editor.  To do this, click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click regedit.exe in the list programs. In the user account control dialog box, click on continue.

  2 go to the following registryHKEY_USERS\ keys. DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

  Hi Bladedancer12 I had the same problem with the same codes, I looked on help and support and found the answer. The moderator has 4 medals and some othe people sent feed back too. I had to download the updates one at a time for KB973709, KB972581/KB974234 .and open and run them as a guest. I t has worked for me and I have windows vista on a laptop, when you installed them this way, you will still need to install the updates, then you will get the software update process. Brillyant now I'm not panyking cos I know nowt about computers but it seems that if you follow the instuctions then downt you fool you, browse Help & Suport click Options, then settings under rsults serch select help & suport line and find the download links.
