    Hello

I look after 3 x Windows 2008 Standard Edition servers. Two of them to date very well and are up to date with updates. One of them however, which is identical in hardware to either of the other two and even fewer programs (we use it as a simple file server), fails on the last update released December 2015:

KB3099860 a security update for the .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 in Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2: 8 December 2015

I tried a variety of things after having studied the problem these past few days, including:

1 Uninstalling some updates before this one and see if they re - install. They are all re - install fine until I get to it where it fails with 8000FFFF error code so this leads me to believe that this is not in itself a problem with updates

including rename them the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution Windows Update and giving of right on drive C for "Network Services" - still does not work.

    6. as it is associated .NET I tried to repair .NET facilities that exist on the server (2, 3, 3.5 and and re-apply updates, but even once, fails on it.)

So, what should I do now? The behavior may suggest that it is that only this particular associate .NET that is a failure and that future ones will work, but it's "critical" and which relates to the .NET version which is initrinsic to the Windows 2008 operating system I think I should get it fixed :)

    Any thoughts?

  • Windows 7 update error code 8000FFFF

Howdy, I'm having a problem recently with Windows 7, do not update anything another Defender to windows then.  All other updates give 8000FFFF error code.  The latest good updates I had were 16/08/2010, then the first failures were 24/08/2010.  The only changes to my system since 08/16/2010 are the latest version of Firefox and I installed Starcraft II.  I spent hours going through the links of this error, but in almost every moment, the answers given are for windows vista that do not work for windows 7.

I did a restore of the return if the system would let me which unfortunately is 24/08/2010.  I also tried to install updates manually by receiving the same error.

    Operating system = Windows 7 premium 64-bit,

Anti-anti-virus/firewall = Windows defender (had norton 360 installed, but I was told IT caused with windows defender issues used the norton removal tool to uninstall.)

It's pretty much a skeleton system, I use for games so that other then 3 games and firefox, it is has nothing in what the system did not come with installed.

    Any help/ideas are much appreciated.

    Thank you

Anti-anti-virus/firewall = Windows defender (had norton 360 installed, but I was told IT caused with windows defender issues used the norton removal tool to uninstall.)

Who told you that? Properly installed, Norton 360 turns off default Defender. (Defender is an anti-spyware application, not an anti-virus application.)

Since you did not have an antivirus application installed for who knows how long, chances are you see the effects of a hijackware infection. See...

Vista SP1 or SP2 installed yet? (just a question, NOT a recommendation)

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall Norton 360, LiveUpdate and all Norton Add ons via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of Norton 360 2010 using your product ID & reboot: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8 test cycle.

NB: Only one 1 firewall must be enabled at any time. If the Norton Personal Firewall is activated (after you have reinstalled N360), Windows Firewall must be turned off.
