I have a Compaq Presario SR5410F computer with a large screen Hp w2207h with windows home premium and service pack 2. The computer is about 1 year and 3 months. About 6 months ago, I have an update of windows for my monitor and it failed several times when I tried to install it. I got ahold of someone at microsoft but never got an answer to my problem. The person finally told me to hide the update so it wouldn't keep trying to install. Now I have another update to my monitor and it will not be installed. All other updates installed fine. When I try to install, I get failed and the 80070005 error code.
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? Sure would appreciate it.The post directly above it, the journal of Kateyes, has the following questions:
1 looks like there is a proxy or some sort of 'intermediary' between the Windows Update software and internet. Usually, it is a kind of dial-up, or download accelerator software or maybe internet software such as content filtering (parental control). If you have any of these please disable and try again.
2. you may have a proxy configured incorrectly. Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools / Internet Options / Connections / LAN Settings button. Here, uncheck the "Use a Proxy Server" if it is checked. Otherwise, uncheck the box for "Automatically detect proxy settings" and close IE and try again.
3. the problem could be another connectivity type of questions, please try the suggestions in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941 - make this one article first, very good on this type of error
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/Windows-Update-error-80072efdI hope this helps. The question is purely related connectivity, so something related to the internet connection does not work correctly. It probably isn't and issue with your ISP, but more with the settings of Windows or other applications installed on your computer that are at the origin of the conflict. Error code 646 when trying to install Windows updates.
Windows updates appear to download but will not be installed. I tried to go into 'control panel '; Security systems &; then Windows updates. It checks and concludes that they are downloaded and try to install but won't. My computer is set to automatically download and install, so I'm never checked to see if they really were the installation so far. It seems the latest installations of updates took place the 1/11 & 12/01/11. There has been many failures last year. Right now, it seems that there are 6 updates important and 6 optional updates that will not be installed.
I tried to disable my Norton Internet Security and then the installation, but that does not work either.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.

If you receive Error 80070020 Windows Update, this could mean a program running on your computer is interfering with Windows Update. It is often a simple synchronization problem, and it can be solved by restarting your computer and then run Windows Update again.

Instead you send on what could turn out to be a proverbial 'wild goose chase', I would recommend that you contact the Security Support for the MS consumer on all this.

I get an error code 643 during the installation of Windows updates.
Security updates will not download. Tried all the "fix - its" from the microsoft support site. Downloaded microsoft security definitions. A virus scan. Nothing works. Are still unable to update. Error code is Ox643, tried all the "fixes" for the error codes. Help?
Original title: updates will not download which gives the error code Ox643. Tried all the fixes nothing works
The good news is that these are NOT updated for Windows. They are simply updated for .NET Framework 1.1.
If you can not solve this problem, I suggest you uninstall this framework (and all the updates, which can be uninstalled everything first) using Add / Remove programs in Control Panel. If you need this particular setting down the road (and you very well might never need!), you can always install it then.In the future, only install the critical security updates for WINDOWS. Avoid the optional software and hardware updates, since it is more trouble than they are worth. :-) -

Recently, I received 646 error code when you try to install the important/automatic updates to Windows Vista. What patches are there for this issue? What risks are there to do not overcome this problem?
rivercitylady,
Usually with the code 646 error, if you download the update and install it manually that will fix the problem.
Go to the Microsoft Download Center and search for the number of the update has failed. Download on your PC, then run it from there. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers
