Error: "failure of the decoder or not installed' when try to play a DVD in Windows Media Center.

Original title: Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows XP Media Edition drive d / error/defect of the decoder.

After download of Internet Explorer 8 I now get a decoder error when you insert a DVD and Media Center. The message says 'malfunction of the decoder or not installed' and suggests to restart the computer and Media Center. This does not solve the problem. The drive is identified as Philips SDVD8820. What can I do to fix this?

Hi Don,

You can download and run the Microsoft Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility . This utility will help you determine if an MPEG-2 video decoder, or a DVD decoder is installed on your system and if the decoder is compatible with Windows Media Player 10 and Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

Hope the helps of information.

    What is it?

Your long explanation sent me on the right track in that I got rid of the blue screen problem.  However, WMP said that he could not play DVD unless I have reduced the screen resolution or installed a MPEG-2 decoder.  Reduce the resolution did nothing so I installed a NVidea video decoder and DVD will now be read.

  • Can not download usage rights to play CDs ripped in Windows Media Player

I am running Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 (64-bit).

Whenever I try to read a CD ripped, Media Player tries to download of copyrights / license from the web using the browser by default, but I get this error message...

The license can not be downloaded because your Web browser is not supported.

To download a license, you must install Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or later.

To install the latest version of Internet Explorer, see the Windows update page.

Make IE the default browser 11 isn't good. Some say to use another media player, but this is ridiculous. There must be a way to remedy this situation outside the re-rip the CD. I hope that IE 11 is not the problem since it is a new browser.

For what it's worth, I've migrated my XP Home Library. Copy protection has been added to these files ripped of course, XP. Any music ripped to Windows 7 is not protected against copying.

    Fixed!

Out of curiosity, I opened Windows Media Center and tried to play copyrighted music. I thought some kind of license message opens, and of course, he did. The message / process was a little more complicated than with Media Player and Media Center has managed to download rights of use without problem. I should have documented my steps, but it was nothing more than the instructions.

I have closed the Media Center, open Media Player, and voila, torn CD music played as it should.

  • Live365 program plays more stations in Windows Media Center (the two MCE 2005 on XP and Vista Home Premium version).

When you select any Live365 station, just have a beep. Three different computers with the same problem (XP and Vista). However, all 3 have IE8 with the same default security settings. I also contacted Live365 support for the resolution and waiting for their response. Live365 is working on other media, just not Windows Media Center PC or extender readers.

Thought I'd share some good news, instead of a few problems.

A month ago, Live 365 in Windows Media Center started working again on all my computers (Vista and XP). Don't know if it's a windows update, or an update of the app live365. But whatever the fix was, thank YOU!

I recorded a program in Windows media center.  When I read the program, it displays the closed captioning information.  If I burn a DVD program closed captioning information do not display during playback.  How can I burn the DVD to include captioning?

    Hello

    1. How do you try to burn the DVD? You have saved the DVD on the desktop (hard drive) or you burnt before you save it to a DVD?
    2. after are burning the DVDs in which application you trying to play?

I suspect that the captions are already burned in DVD, at this point in time we can cross check if the option is set to display captions.
To enable or disable subtitles for DVD
    a. on the Windows Media Center start screen, navigate to tasks, click settings, click DVD and then click subtitle.
    b. click the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons to select power off or when cut, and then click Save.

For more information, refer to the article below.

  • Can not hear people talking when playing a dvd in windows media player. Can hear the background music but no voice

When I play a dvd in my computer, regardless if it is the drive of 'E' or 'F', you can not the voice of the people speaking.  But you can hear background noise etc.  Just can't get the voice of the talking. Crazy ha?  It is not sensible.

    Hi the kidd.

1 are the original DVD where have they been burned?
    2. not this problem occurs during playback of the audio files on the drive of the computer?
    3. What is the file format of the files on DVD?
    4. from when are you facing this problem?
    5. does happen with mp3 files?
    6. the DVD there included language options?

I suggest following these steps suggested below and check if this solves the problem.

    Step 1:

Try the effect parameters to Turn Off the SRS WOW in Windows Media Player.

Follow the steps below to do the same. Another user seems to have solved a similar problem by disabling SRS WOW effects.

    a. Click Start, click all programs and then click Windows Media Player.
    b. in playback mode, right-click an open space in the player
Tips: If the player is currently open and that you are using the library, click the view, then choose now play to switch to game mode now.
    c. point to enhancements, and then click SRS WOW effects.
    d. "SRS Wow effects" Panel appears at the top. From there, you can turn off the feature.

    Step 2:

Try to run the troubleshooting of Audio playback and check if this may help.

    a. open the Troubleshoot utility to play a sound by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel.
    (b) in the search box, type troubleshooting and then click Troubleshooting.
    c. under hardware and sound, click on the audio playback problems.
    d. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Audio playback convenience open
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-playing-audio-Troubleshooter

A workaround to resolve the problem, you can follow the steps below.

    a. Click Start, type Sound in the box to start the search.
    b. click sound in the results of search at the top of the start menu.
    c. click the reading notice the check mark next to the default device. For most users, the default device is speakers. Make sure that the audio settings are configured as expected.

Then, you can check you have connected the correct speakers to outputs of your sound card, some sound cards have several outputs for front and rear speakers and even subwoofers, check them out.

You can also check if your sound card has its own table of sound mixing or program effects. Some cards have a program outside the Windows speaker beside clock volume icon. Some programs may have set up your speakers for surround, double check windows audio configurations and your sound card audio for Dolby Surround options and enabled and try to turn them off.

If you could play before commercial video DVD...
