Error memory on Shut Down

I have a new computer with Vista Ultimate build. All updates are installed (even if the Service Pack 2 has been recorded as having failed, but the system properties shows SP2 installed) with IE8 and Windows Advantage. AV is McAfee and Realteck radio is also installed so that I can receive podcasts from the BBC. Accounting MS and MS Office 2007 are installed for applications to work with Acrobat reader 9

On closing, I get the message: "Explorer.Exe - Application error. The instruction at 0x6d827ed2 referenced memory at 0x6d827ed2. The memory could not be read. "However, details of the reference between 0 x 6 and ed2 may change from one session to the next. Sometimes the message flashes on the screen quickly before disappearing as the closing process continues, but at other times, the message remains on the screen until I click OK.

In my efforts to come to grips with the problem, I started my computer and then waited half and hour or so on the connection profile screen before closing down. On these occasions, the error message did NOT appear. However, in something similar when I logged on as profile (didn't matter that one) and then closed without using application programs the message appeared every time.

I have no idea how I can solve the problem, so help would be appreciated.

Hello Ray,

Did you have problems with the error on closing down?  If you are I think to run the memory diagnostics to rule out a problem with your system RAM.  You will need to enter the BIOS and make sure that the DVD player is set to be the first boot device.  If you are not sure how to do this, you will need to consult your documentation or contact your OEM support for instructions.

BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can resolved e. Changes to settings are at your own risk

Start with your Vista DVD in the drive.  On the choice of the language screen click repair installation.  This will take you to the Windows recovery environment.  Run the memory checker.  Let us know the results.

Thank you

Jack
