error on creating a data store on my ESX4.1, iScsi

Hello

at first my English will not so well.

I have a cluster with 4 hosts (esx 4.1) a "storage adapters" i'll get my iScsi LUN. Bit if I try to create a new storage I get this error:

Call von 'HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions' as Objekt "datastoreSystem-4326" auf vCenter Server "vCenterserver" ist fehlgeschlagen."

At would be the problem of this error message?

Best regards

I see the barebone specification and seem that your controller is a 'soft' RAID

Take a look at the configuration of the SATA controller.

When your drive will be recognized as/dev/sdXX, then you can create your data store.

  • Error during activation of data store single heartbeat

    Hello

I have a cluster HA (5.5) newly created using vSAN as a data store unique. HA cluster is configured with das.ignoreInsufficientHbDatastore, but when I select vSAN datastore in the favorite heartbeat datastore, I get the following error:

The userHeartbeatDs setting is not valid for the cluster NOMCLUSTER

    Perhaps this explains - it.

VSAN part 9 - host failure scenarios & amp; vSphere HA Interop | CormacHogan.com

Another notable difference with vSphere HA on VSAN, it's that the VSAN data store cannot be used for the heartbeat of data store. ...

I guess that this is due to the local VMFS-L version used with VSAN that does not use the same locking mechanism as a VMFS default data store.

  • How to use NFS to create a data store on a server ESX 4.0?

Use an IP address on the same network of your NFS server.

Then go to storage and add new NFS data store.

Don't forget that you will need to a NFS with NFSv3 access TCP server and the root.

  • Error of creation of data store

    Hello world!

I have a funny problem with a server, ESX4 U1: I have an HP MSA2000 FC array connected via a brocade switch to a cluster of 4 hosts ESX4. When I try to present a table logic unit number is larger than 2 TB to and hosts, the available size of the data store resulting is only 260 GB! If this LUN is smaller then 2 TB, everything is ok, and the data store using the entirety of the LUN. I've attached screenshots of my attempts to store data of 3,4 and 5 TB lun size.

Someone has seen this? Any suggestions?

    Thanks for any help!

Maximum supported LUN size is 2 TB minus 512 b. This means creating several volumes less than 2 TB each.

  • Cannot create the data store: the current licence or ESXi version prohibited the execution of the requested operation.

using vicfg-nas I am unable to create/remove a datastore nfs on my lab running esxi 6 at home. Is this not supported? Listing them works well. I can create/delete data warehouses nfs using the client to vcenter very well, but it's a little embarrassing.

I guess that the host is allowed with the free edition of hypervisor! One of the few restrictions of the free version of hypervisor is access to the API. In order to have "write access" (i.e. change things rather than the list of them) you must run the host in evaluation mode, or license (Essentials or better).

  • Error to remove empty data store - the resource is in use.

    Hello world

I'm having a problem with the removal of my empty data VMFS3 store I rebooted the host already, but somehow, he's always stuck not asupprimer, can someone help me remove this empty data VMFS3 store please?

    Thank you.

I like to use the tab 'Maps' to see if any SMV always access the data store.  It is much easier to check the settings for a good number of virtual machines.

Select the "Maps" tab and just put a check mark in the box for VM to the data store

    Click apply relationships

If there is no line in the data store to be deleted, it means that a virtual machine is always oriented to the data store.

If this is the case, change the settings of the virtual machine so it does not more point to this data store.

  • Error trying to create a data store

    Hello

I work with ESXi 5.0 on a HP proliant ML350 Tower Server, type G6.

The server uses a RAID5 array and the standard SmartArray P410i controller.

I try to create a store of standard data to the server with the file system of type 3, because I need this platform to support different VMS of different platforms.

The error I get is as follows:

"It was not correct to specified parameters.
    Vim.host.DiskPartitionInfo.spec

' Call 'HostStorageSystem.ComputeDiskPartitionInfo' to object 'storage system' on ESXi '192.168.11.79' failed.

I installed several files VIB at HP, thinkig maybe it was a driver problem. This has not solved the problems.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

    Matt

Basically VMFS5 supports LUNS with up to 64 ~ to. However, there are exceptions, like the P410 controller (the driver). Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2006942 for more details.

What you can do is to use the ACU (Array Configuration Utility) since the SmartStart CD and spit the RAID5 in 2 logical volumes. The controller BIOS utility does not support this.

  • Creating VMFS data store, will only let me use 900 GB of a TB LUN 5

Hi, I was wondering if someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here. We have a Dell MD3000i configured and works with iSCSI. We started with 1 set of RAID 10 with 4 1 TB drives and 1 spare drive. Recently, we added 10 1 TB disks, complete the table. I created a RAID 5 of these 10 discs. I cut 6 bombs of 500 GB LUN and added to my cluster, no problems. I want to use the remaining ~4.8 TB as a large store of data temporarily for a few data migrations. My host can 'see' the 4.88 TB of space in the menu of storage adapters. However, when I add the storage and the attempt to create a new VMFS datastore, it will affect only 903 GB of the 4.8 TB of space. I don't know that it's my fault in a way or another. I have attached some relevant screenshots to illustrate, can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you.

There is a limit of 2 TB lun size.  You see the overflow of 4 TB.

Reduce the size of the LUN below 2 TB.

Please answer me as soon as POSSIBLE.

property 'partition' is a positive integer that identifies the disk partition. So, if you create a logical partition (i.e., setting the property to "logical" true) then you need to assign any positive integer that is greater than 4 to this property.

    I hope this helps.

  • Error in creating data store Local VMFS 2.3 TB RAID - 5

    Hi all

I just reinstalled my ESXi 4.0u1, the local disk is configured as 6 x 500 GB SATA RAID - 5 altogether, it gives me 2.3 TB of disk capacity

However, when I am about to create VMFS Local data store on the ESXi server it was fll of error as the following attached photos:

can someone help me please in reconfiguring the VMFS 2 TB and 300 GB each?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    AWT

Maximum size of the LUN is a little less than 2 TB.  Re-create the matrix, with two LUNS that is two 1.15 TB, both RAID-5.  Create a data store on the first, then add the second as a measure.

Please give points for any helpful answer.

  • trying to create an ESXi data store on the local drive.  Configuring the host error: unable to update the disk partition information

I'm a newbie on ESXi and don't know what it takes to get ESXi correctly partition my drive SATA 500 correctly.

I will implement a laboratory unit to carry out tests for ESXi and ESXi is not quite correctly the disk partitioning or do not see a good partition in order to create a data store.

This system was able to correctly identify and configure a data store on a small 80 GB seagate SATA disk, however, this isn't quite enough storage so I swapped the hard drive and tried to re - install ESXi on the new hd.

I use a USB boot ESXi since and it is launched and configures the card intel pro1000 pci ethernet correctly.  also correctly the id of the cpu and memory.  everything seems fine and he is even able to see the hard drive.

Here are some screenshots of the process that I go through to make my data store...

on this photo-sous the column titled 'available' is 'none', also said, under the title 'san identifier' he said 'not applicable' - I guess that's not quite right?

    and disappointment - failure?

I tried to go into the bios if there are some settings I need to do to get this hard drive set up... I don't understand enough about ESXi to find out why the drive is not found and configured correctly.  is this a bios problem w / my system or a problem of ESXi?

    pls help!

You have generally not, but it might be interesting to start with something like a Linux live CD and then using gparted or other to wipe all the top partition information.

  • Failed to create data store on LUN ISCSI

Get the following error when attempting to create a new data store after a new installation of ESXi 5.5U2.

    Location:

    • UCS B200 servers using the VIC-1280 map and
    • Interfaces ISCSI connected directly from the fabric of interconnection to the NetApp FAS2552 with TwinAx cables
    • MTU is set for extended frames (9000) on the interface of NetApp, vNIC for ISCSI vKernel vSwitch and group interface ports
    • During the initial setup of the vSwitches, I forgot the MTU setting Port and interfaces group wouldn't even ping, so all the MTU setting are good
    • ISCSI connection is green and LUN created and present storage warehouses are considered as available on the ESX Server to create a data store (sizes 1 TB and 2 TB tested times)
    • The NetApp storage have been created as a thin provisioned and thick provisioned - neither works and gets the same error

Any ideas would be very useful. Technical support has not yet responded.

    Thanks in advance.

    DM

OK, after working with NetApp and VMware on a conference call (after both made each other) bottom line "fix" was to remove the iSCSI port bindings, remove broken paths, remove the vSwitches and rebuild again.

    1. create vKernel vSwitch with appropriate port group

    2. set the MTU to 9000 on the port group and vSwitch

    3. create the bindings for each interface iSCSI Port

    4 re-scan

5 successfully create the data store

Oddly enough, I had to repeat this process 3 times for one of the blades, but it worked the first time for 3 other involved blades.

VMware technical support did provide the following as a look at the LUN of the CLI:

    1. / vmfs/devices/disks cd

    ls-l

We see and out of all the available discs

    Identify the Lun Naa.xxxxxxxx

    2. run the Naa.xxxxx reported in step 2

    partedUtil getptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.xxxxxxx

If there is a partition, you might see something similar to

    1 63 2249099 131 128 > 1 is the partition number

    or

You can see and error, if error please contact technical support

    3. If there is partition, you can delete

    partedUtil remove /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.xxxxxxx 1

NOTE: This process did not work, but is still useful nonetheless. It could work if the LUN has been used by another operating system and need cleaning. But my situation was all greenfield.
