Hola, me paso in several implementaciones. Lo resolvimos configurando the service of MS SQL como dependence del servicio vCenter tal como indicaron in other responses.

Lo configuramos asi:

  1. Buscar the registro HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpxdy editar property DependsOnService cadena

  2. Add una entrada del tipo REG_SZ_MULTI con el valor MSSQLSERVER

From este momento el servicio vCenter no intentara iniciar a less than the service of SQL (MSSQLSERVER) este levantado in el equipo.

  • How to check what database is used by VMware Virtual Center?

    Hello

I recently inherited a small environment and I was asked to upgrade ESX 3.5 to ESX 4.0. I'm not a person from the database, but how can I check what database is used by VMware Virtual Center? According to the guide to upgrade the MSDE database is not supported in ESX 4.0.

I want to just make sure that we did not use this database. I looked in the ODBC Data Source Administrator. Thanks to the system DSN, I saw that the drivers for Vmware Update Manager and Vmware Virtual Center are "SQL Native Client". Also registry editor, I watched HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> SOFTWARE-> VMWARE, INC.-> VMware Virtual Center-> DB. Data on 'Vmware VirtualCenter' next to '1' and '4' is set to "SQL Native Client".

So, how can I determine if the database used is not MSDE?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm not so much with the databases...

    Thank you.

    > So, how can I determine if the database used is not MSDE?

MSDE does not remote databases.  ODBC Open, click System DSN, click Configure.  The listed database is that it uses, and if that is the name used for virtual center, this is the database in use.

  • VMWare Virtual Center Server does not start after Windows Update

Help!  I'm under vCenter 5.1 on Windows 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard.  I have applied the latest updates for Windows (critical only) as it applied Service Pack 3 to SQL 2008 R2.

Now the vCenter Service does not start.  It generates error 7024 in the Windows system log:

The VMware VirtualCenter Server service stopped with the error special service that the system cannot find the specified file...

and error 1000 in the Windows application log:

Could not initialize the VMware VirtualCenter. Closing...

PS - I confirmed that the SQL instance is running.

Absolutely nothing has been done except the Windows and SQL updates.  Everything worked fine until this point.  Ko an article deals with a "space" condition, but there are a lot of available space.

I have attached the file vpxd.log, he created.

    Clues?

    Thank you.

OK it turns out that the WWW service is interfering with vCenter Service on Port 80.  The thing is that the WWW service has been set to manual start.  Somehow during the upgrade Windows or SQL, one of them decided to turn auto-start. After the reboot, the conflict occurred.  Once I put the WWW back service to manual start the vCenter service started OK.

Please let me know that this database will come with the server in VC software package.

Or we have to buy separately license MS SQL?

Please help me in this regard.

  • Do I need to have 2 servers attached to a San to try VMware virtual center server?  or just 2 operational esx servers?

    Thank you.

VC, you can do with a single esx host to manage. To test HA and DRS, you need two servers, using shared storage (san or a certain type of sin).

I'm setting up a VMWare View deployment and I need to configure Performance Manager in Virtual Center Customization Tools.  Use the deployment tools XP Service Pack 2 for my model pack 3 XP service or do I have to download SP 3 tools?  Documentation on the internet points to SP 2 tools, but I can't find a definitive answer for XP SP 3 machines.

I don't think anything changed in Sysprep between XP SP2 and SP3 of XP.  I use Sysprep in an XP SP2 CD deploy.cab file to customize my XP SP3 image with no problems.  You should be able to use Sysprep tools on the CD for SP2 for your model.

  • Virtual Center service

After the reboot, virtual center service does not start on its own. I don't face any problem while I start it manually. How to fix this?

    Hello

To resolve this problem, add a dependency to the VirtualCenter service so that it starts only after the necessary services have started.

    To create a service dependency:

    1. Click Start > run, type services.msc and press ENTER.

    2. Find all the services that vCenter Server requires. For example, SQLEXP_VIM, ADAM_VCMSDS or ADAM_VMwareVCMSDS.

Note: the Service names are different from SQL Express and the full SQL implementations. For example, the name of the SQL Express service is SQLEXP_VIM and in complete SQL implementations, it is MSSQLSERVER.

    3. Open the properties of the service and note the name of the service. For example, MSSQL$ SQLEXP_VIM.

    4. Click Start > run, type regedit, and then click OK. The window of the Registry Editor opens.

    5. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpxd.

    6. Double-click the DependOnService key and add the Service name by using the name identified in step 4.

    7. Close the Registry Editor window.

    8. In the Services window, open the properties of the service to the service identified in step 3.
    9. On the Dependencies tab, make sure that the VMware VirtualCenter service is registered as a function of the service.
    10. Repeat steps 3-9 for all services that requires VirtualCenter.

If you are running Windows 2008 you can set the VMware VirtualCenter Server service to automatic startup (delayed) following type:

    1. Click Start > run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. Right-click on the VMware VirtualCenter Server service, and then click Properties.

    3. Change the automatic startup type Automatic (delay).

  • 10.0.4 Workstation introduced "internal error" If vmware-authd service does not

The v10.0.4 comes out must do more teleworkers laconically "solve the problem of memory on ms - win 8.1. He appears to have introduced some new internal dependency that requires the vmware-authd service always runs even in cases that worked very well in v10.0.3 without it.

Species: Win7 x 64, guest host of XP Mode any cut down to the bare material (no usb in particular). Used to work under Workstation v10.0.3 with none of the VMware services started on the host computer. After the v10.0.4, it fails from the start with a box of "internal error." Manually start the service vmware-authd before starting the virtual machine to operate again.

I hope this fix "windows 8.1" could itself be fixed as to not penalize anyone. Thank you.

    Hi dxiv,

I just checked: the only change between the workstation 10.0.3 10.0.4 for Windows is the landmark of memory Windows 8.1, and it has absolutely zero overlap with Win7 host or anything related to vmware-authd.  There is absolutely no change of workstation itself that explains what you describe - certainly nothing intentional!

You launch Workstation via "Run as Administrator"?  Are you sure that nothing has changed in your environment it (anti-virus, etc.) because of the change in behavior?  If you temporarily switch to Workstation 10.0.3, is the expected returns behavior?

    See you soon,.

  • customization error "Sysprep is not installed on the server of virtual center for the model you have selected.

    Hi all

Need your help with customization of the script here is the steps I've done so far

1.I have created a virtual machine with Windows XP Professional as the operating system installed VMware Tools / VMware view agent then I added the virtual machine to the domain and created a template called (winXPtemp)

    2. According to article http://www.VMware.com/support/VC/doc/c12prepcustomize.html#1030366 I downloaded the Q257813_w2k_spl_x86_en.exe and the same extract. I force my VC server find the path as mentioned in article

C:\ [VirtualCenter_installation_directory]\resources\windows\sysprep\1.1 so copied the files extracted to the location C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\resources\windows

3 then I copied and extracted the file \support\tools\deploy.cab on the windows 2003 CD and copied the sysprep files extracted to the following location on the VC Server

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\xp

    4. After you have done that, I've created a script under customization script called "testsript".

5 Note until now I have not created a pool of resources as requires it the deployment of only 4 VM on an ESX Server with script customization. The data store for the virtual machine is a 100 GB LUN from a 2050 of FAS of NetApp iSCSI

    6. now when I create an automatic pool when I select the script that I created in step 4, and then click then it gives me an error "Sysprep is not installed on the server of virtual center for the model you have selected. Sysprep on the server installation.

    Troubleshooting done by me:

I have readded the VC Server Manager to view but it force worked

Thanks in advance for your help

    Kind regards

    v

If I remember correctly the location for XP should go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\xp

For XP SP2 Sysprep files can be downloaded from the Microsoft site and are called

    Windows XP SP2 deployment tools

The article you linked was VirtualCenter 1.x. Since you have given a version number of VirtualCenter I assumed it was 2.x or later.
