Hello

There may be different ways to solve this problem.
What I did at home was to
(1) establish a working group name - for example the House. Fix all units you home to this working group.
(2) on a machines to share a folder with read-only access (there is a guide in WinXP that will show you how do it.) You can start it if you unroll the contextmenu of the folder you want to share).
(3) set computer names that are human. Windows normally gives really strange names, but if you have 1 Toshiba Satellite P20 and Toshiba Tecra M1 1 I give the P20 "P20" name and the idea also for the M1 "M1". Or if you use only the P20 and Uncle Bob the M1, culd you name your machine 'My computer' and the machine of Uncle Bob "Bob."
4) both units will have to be restarted if their names and / or working groups are changed.
(5) in the address bar of the browser, type the address of the other machine (the one that has the folder that you want to watch). For example:
\\M1\ (press ENTER after the last------)
You should be able to see any file or the other that the other machine.

Tip: If you have problems see each other, make sure that you're both on the same net. I have problems of hade with that and not understood why we cannot see all the units in my house until I discovered that a neighbourgh also have a wireless connected to my missing unit.

Hope this helps you.

    Hello
My computer has a processor Athlon 64 x 2 4200 + and 2 GB of RAM, with XP2 Pro. I have a Linksys WRT54GS broadband router and connected with Virgin Media.

My daughter gave me an old laptop a Satellite Pro 4600 with a 747 MHz Celeron processor, 384 MB of RAM and XP2 Pro has an Intel Pro/100 VE Network adapter. I set up a Linksys Wireless - G Notebook Adapter with SRX (model No. WPC45GX), so that I could use around the House. However when I try to connect to the home network, although he "finds" a list of networks, I am unable to connect and get an error message - "Windows cannot connect to the selected network (my home network). The network can be is no longer in range. Please refresh the list of available
    networks and try again. »

I tried to connect with laptop computer in the same room as the router, but get the same message. In the Manager of peripheral devices, network cards, the two are shown and both work properly, but in the taskbar there is a red cross shown on the two icons, they say that a network cable is unplugged, but I don't have a cable network.
The other tells me that the wireless is not connected.

I presume that the adapter works as it can 'see' wireless networks, I used Lynksys support to verify that all router and adapter settings are correct.
My wife has a new laptop and is able to connect to the home network with no problems.

Please can someone offer advice or assistance.

for some reason, you need to turn off your wired connection (cable) and use the client of the PCMCIA wireless network card. Maybe just the problem that your system can not separate the two network connections and gets an error it s. You should also visit the site Web of Linksys and download the latest driver and the customer for the card, so you can make sure that the software is up to date.

Another good idea would be to visit www.microsoft.com and the support center for any 'knowledge base documents' which could probably solve the problem.
As your machine is really old and no one is using PCMCIA cards more, you may wait a long time for an answer in this forum. Maybe you should check the site from linksys for a support section. Maybe they could help you...

  • Cannot connect my Photosmart C4780 to my network wireless (home)

    Hello

I searched this forum and tried to solve my problem, but none of the elaborate suggestions.

    I have a Photosmart C4780 and am under OSX10.8

Recently, our internet provider changed our wireless router and our SSID. As a result, the printer that is connected to the original network and properly functioning has stopped working. I tried to connect the printer to the new network, but failed. He said now that the printer is connected to the hp network (something) and I can't change it for the new SSID.

Could you please tell me what to do? I have installed the software mentioned in the HP website, plugged the USB cable into the printer to try to set it up, but it says that the printer cannot find any existing network (although I'm next to the printer and connected to the intended network wireless)

Fact a little kind of hard-reset on the printer can be a good strategy? How can he do?

    Thanks in advance

    Pedro

PS: The printer works correctly when printing via USB

PS2: It is not an option to return the SSID of the router to the previous

    Hi @pedroa

You say "I have installed the software mentioned in the HP website", but there is no software for the compatible with 10.8 c4780. Mountain V10.8 OS X Lion: installing and using the printer on a Mac with the Mountain Lion.

As you know, this printer has not a wizard wireless version in the front panel instead us would typically connect the USB cable from the printer to the computer and run the installation wizard.

Because you have 10.8 on Mac, and it there is no full feature software and drivers, you won't be the configuration wizard, to configure the printer. You may be wondering now, well how can I set up then?  Good question, we will restore the default network printers and the printer will have its own IP address designed for whats called an Ad-Hoc connection (wireless router). We will put the computer on the network printer and then print a report to get the printers IP address. At this point, we can access the built-in web server (EWS) and run the wireless from there. Once the printer on the network with the router, we can put the computer on the network and vuala that the printer and the computer will be on your network.

To restore the default network settings - since you have done this before I guess you know how, but for others who can see the message, here are the steps

    1. Press the wireless button
    2. Select wireless settings
    3. Scroll and select default network.  Press Yes to recognize
    4. The radio turns off (the blue LED turns off).  You may need to press the wireless button to turn on wireless

Put the computer on the network printer (temporary)

    1. click on the symbol of the airport on the upper left side of the screen Mac
    2. choose the network looking compared to the printer (we could say a variant of the name of your printer or HP setup) - it may take a few minutes to make it appear

Print the wireless network test - wait a few minutes to make sure the computer have established an ad hoc connection, otherwise the report will not have an IP address

    1. Press the Scan button (it also the wireless menu button)
    2. Select wireless settings
    3. Testing wireless access, then select.

The wireless network Test prints, search and note the IP address.

Open a browser (Safari) and enter the IP address in the URL (address bar).

Click on the network, on the left tab, click on wireless or 802.11.

At this point, we are looking at fore 'start the wizard' should be on the right side.

As soon as we will have to set up the printer to your network, you can put your computer on your own network.

Now you can add the printer in system preferences and print

Please let me know if that fixes the problem, thanks.

  • DeskJet 3745 on network wireless home

    Hello

I have a deskjet 3745 attached to a desktop running XP.  The printer is set up as shared.  I just bought a laptop running Windows 7 and I want to be able to print from it on my home network to the deskjet printer.  (I do from another laptop under vista, so I know that the network is OK)

When I try to put in place, the laptop sees the printer but gives me a message that "windows update cannot find the driver" and a request for the location of the driver.

I tried to connect the printer directly to the laptop - it installed the driver and worked fine, but when I go back to the old configuration (printer connected to the desktop computer) the same problem arises and he asked again for a driver location...

I also changed the port for the local installation of the printer to \\DesktopComputer\Printershare.  The printer always show offline

I've seen this problem on other forums, but no answer questions!

    Help would be appreciated

    Thank you!

Now fixed-, for some reason, this works if you go back through the printer Installation Wizard and select the newly created local port

I have a wireless home network and I got a connected laptop. I added another one last week and I don't have administrator rights. I have no firewall or virus. I just want to know how to give the two pcs of admin rights so I can update my other laptop. We have administrator and the other not.

I have a wireless home network and I got a connected laptop. I added another one last week and I don't have administrator rights. I have no firewall or virus because I can't access administrator? the two laptops running xp and are dells and both are connected to a router belkin on suddenlink cable. How to give administrative rights for both computers?

It is quite easy to stop the menu "Select the hardware profile" to appear... Once you get connected to Windows.  Your post is not clear is whether or not you can do.

What do you mean by "the other login page. the only user I know is the lowest user in the book?

What version of Windows XP is on each computer (Home, Pro, Media Center)?  If you can connect to Windows, made a click right my computer and select Properties.  Also a report of the service pack.

If you use the built-in account named 'Administrator' for daily use and connect your computers between them and the Internet "without protection of firewall or a virus", you should probably do a clean install of Windows on both computers.

If you have important data on computers it back up to an external drive and scan with good antivirus and anti-malware applications before copying this back on your computers (after install it clean).

Contact Dell for instructions on reinstalling Windows.

My wireless home does not appear on as a network available on my work laptop and always did before.  He brings up and connect on my laptop. I have a Linksys broadband router - summer use it for at least two years with no problems until this.  I know that my wireless works on my laptop because there is an unsecured network listed in the available window.

A really strange thing that happened two weeks ago (and I don't know if it's related) was my personal laptop was fine during several hours - then he kept abandonment of the internet connection.  I couldn't keep him connected - reboot etc didn't work.  I've not logged again until today - and that's what I use now.  He connected very well today.

My work laptop had been connected to my wireless ealier in the week, but when I tried to connect as usual Thursday night he has not logged automatically as it has always done in the past.  Nothing has changed.  Security patches that my company had sent through this week have not downloaded until after that I tried to connect and couldn't.  There is nothing new - he had no reason to think I should not have automatically connected as I have in the past.

    Hi suemoo,

-What version of service pack of Windows XP you are using?

This problem occurs because the media connect action is not sent to the wireless service correctly.

Method 1: Disable and then enable the wireless network adapter and check if it helps fix the problem.
To do this, follow these steps:
    a. start the network connections tool in Control Panel. Click Start, click Control Panel, click on network connections and Internetand then click on network connections.

    b. right click on wireless network connectionand then click disable.

I have a new laptop at home which has windows xp sp 2 is installed.  I am trying to connect to my wireless network.
    I get the following error;
The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration.  This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii or 26 hexadecimal characters.

I gave my father a new laptop computer this fall and he gave me one that had given him his friend... I've never worked with XP Pro...

We have several other phones on this account wireless at home.

You try to login with the wrong encryption method and you have this implemented extremely secure wireless network.

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples given are for a Linksys router. See the manual of your router or the router mftr's Web site. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (it is default IP address of the router, which varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Enter this information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your configuration utility may be slightly different from mine. The first thing to do is to change the default password because * all * known default passwords for different routers.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Re-enter the password to confirm it, and then click Save settings at the bottom of the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again. Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to enter the configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the network name (SSID) wireless by default to something, you'll recognize. I suggest that my clients not use their surname as the SSID. For example, you might want to name your network wireless network "CastleAnthrax" or similar. ;-)

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes were successful, click the wireless security link which is just beside the Basic Wireless Settings link (where you changed your SSID). Most computers purchased during the last 4 years have the wireless hardware that will support WPA2-Personal (also known as WPA2-PSK). This is the desired encryption level. If your wireless hardware is older, use WPA. Don't use WEP, because who is easily broken within minutes. So go ahead and set the Security Mode WPA2-Personal. Do this and enter a password. For example, you could use the password ' here be dragons, beware you scurvy dogs! The password is what you enter on all computers that are allowed to connect to the wireless network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you use to configure the router will normally connect wireless, disconnect the ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new network. Enter the password that you have created (exactly as you wrote it with all capital letters and punctuation) to join the network and start surfing. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

    Hello

A message in the small window that says connected wireless does not mean that you really have a valid functional connection.

Linking the means of router you can enter the IP base of the router in an address bar in one go, being able to connect, see and configure the router menus (extended to the wireless router manual should explain how to do).

If it will not connect to your wireless router, journal newspaper from any computer that can connect to the router wirelessly with a wire, disable wireless security, make sure that the wireless SSID broadcast is enabled and try to connect with no. wireless security.
