ESX 4 Update 1...

Can someone tell me how do I know if I have ESX 4.0 Update 1 installed. I can't find information on how to tell anywhere.

I ask because I think that I installed it, but when you create a new virtual machine, Win 2008 R2 is listed as experimental (which should be supported in update 1 if I understand it right).

So my question is, how do I know if 1 update is installed? If it is, why not getting full support for Win 2008 R2, and if is not, then how to do it installed, our Update Manager reports that there are NO updates/patches available for the guests in question.

Thanks for your help.

vCenter is usually updated only with major releases, such as update 1, day 2, etc. ESX is much more frequently updated.

When major upgrade came out it produced a lot of buzz in Articles and news, so it's hard to Miss

  • How to upgrade ESX 1 update to update 2 with the Update Manager?

Hi, I'm just installing vmware update manager because I want to update my ESX4U1 ESX 4.U2

But vmware update manager told me that I must use base instead of upgrading basic patch.

However, patch who will I choose to update my ESX in update 2?

Is there a single package, or I need to select several fixes?

    Thank you.

Beginning of the 10.06.2010, you can install 2 update via Patch Update manager. Just done on all 30 of my ESX hosts. And you can select only the correction for the work.

Here's SS of my base line patch where you can see Update 2 available:

  • ESXi 4 ESX 4 Update 1 upgrade

    Hello

I have here a typical situation. We rotated 2 standalone ESXi 4 with VM and templates stored in the local data warehouses. We finally decided to upgrade to ESX 4 update 1 to be able to use the service console to use most of the features of the CLI.

The ESXi 4 has 2 data warehouses locally that contains templates of a store of data and the virtual computer on the other. It is important for us to have the operation of the virtual machine. We do not have a shared storage.

We have obtained the licenses now and want to spend ESXi ESX 4update 4 1. Is this possible? If so, how and if not, what would be the alternatives?

All entries would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

There is no option to migrate since ESXi 4 to ESX 4.

  • High CPU usage after upgrading to ESX 4 Update 1

I just upgraded 2 hosts (IBM HS21 blades) 4 ESX to ESX 4 Update 1, and now I experience high CPU usage.  Before use on each host would turn around 10%, but now after the upgrade, it's about 80 percent on each and now all the virtual machines are running very slow as a result.

The only change that has been done is that I demoted local readers of hard drives of 500 GB SAS drives to 7 200 RPM 73 GB SAS drives mirrored, 10 000 rpm mirrored and performed a clean installation of ESX 4U1 on each host.  As the VMs 14 are located on a SAN disk array I thought only, it would improve the performance of the hosts.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or a potential solution?

    See you soon,.

    Josh.

    Seems very strange.

You have the same number of VM? You have to upgrade the VMware tools?

    There are other changes?

Local disk is not so important to the overall performance.

  • Version upgrade ESX using Update Manager

    Hello

To upgrade my ESX 3.5.0 Update 2 for Update4 I did the following:

(1.) using Update Manager, I have predefined joint und Crtitcal NO Crtitcal updates and I have created a new ESX Server Updates (dynamic) base apart.

2.) I did clean up Crtitcal updated and overnight NO Crtitcal updates

I didn't fix the new line of manual base ESX Server Updates (dynamic)

Now, all updates are consistent and the build number is 153875

    Should I now update 4?

My question is, do I really need to attach a new ESX Server Updates (dynamic) not predefined reference to the ESX version upgrade?

BTW. ESX HOWTO find new updates?

    Yes, you now have U4.

You do not have to create the new base, critical and Non-critical are enough.

  • Problems to make the correct version in ESX 4 Update 1

I've recently updated our environment vSphere 4 Update 1.  This iso is build 208167.  I used the Manager Update to apply all critical and non-critical updates available on all servers and vCenter (also v4 update 1) says: I'm on the build 244038 to all of my ESX servers.

But if I connect via SSH and su root and run vmware - v it only shows 208167 as the build.  Y at - it a command or file I can watch him accurately reflects my current version?

  • How update of ESX 4 Update 1

Hello all, I need help for the upgrade of our ESX servers.

We have 7 ESX 4 Server (Advanced) and a (Advanced) Vcenter server. I moved the virtual machines of 2 ESX servers to other servers and installed

the news using the iso file to update 1. There is therefore 5 left ESX servers to update, but I don't want to do this by the migration of virtual machines to others

servers and installation of the host with iso update 1.

So I downloaded ESX - 4.0.0 - update01.zip and Vmware Vsphere Upgrade Guide. What is the good guide? Chapter 14 (update an ESX/ESXi host using Offline bundles with the vihostupdate utility) is the right one for me, OK?

I don't really understand how to upgrade hosts with the vihostupdate command. I installed the VMware vSphere Management Assistant (vMA) virtual appliance on any of the ESX host and now?

ESX 4.0 U1 server upgrade is not supported with vSphere Host Update Utility. You can use vHUU for the upgrade to ESXi 40-U1 with online portal.

  • VMware ESX server update CD & 3WARE CONTROLLER

VMware has a cd ISO labled the following: VMware ESX Server 3.5 Update 3 driver for 3ware 9650SE and 9690SA SAS HBA controllers GCCA CD.  The URL is: http://www.vmware.com/support/vi3/doc/drivercd/esx350-3w-9xxx-2.24.08.021vm35-146309.html#InstallESX

QUESTION: Anyone know if this drive works with ESXi 3.5?  The downloads of the installation, update 3 or 4, I tried to load do not work for me.  If this does not work, can you me where the download is that he asks?  If this is not the case, the ISO EXSi can be modified to work.

The disc is for ESX only but if necessary you can extract the driver and use with ESXi.   I had check ESXi was last updated yesterday and there is no 3ware with her driver.   See the instructions here to create an oem.tgz file - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/customize_oem_tgz.php.  There is also a link to the 3Ware Update1/2 site of 3Ware driver.  I check which driver is more recent and use it.

  • Connect to ESX 4 Update 2 error

    Hi guys,.

I'm having a problem with a newly installed host ESX 4 U2, where, startup or failover from NIC SC, I get error 503 Server unavailable when you try to connect using the VI Client.

If I wait 5 minutes it resolves. Generally with any ESX host I can connect to the host immediately.

When I check the hosd service it is running. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Thank you

  • ESX 3 Update 5 Support 64-bit client

I use a cluster of ESX 3.5 to 4 knots on HP BL20P G4 U 5. I read that once Intel VT is enabled on the virtual machines and then 64-bit can be run.  This configuration fully supported in production or is it and experimental development / configuration?  I intend to move to ESX 4/4i at some point, but a client is in need of a 2008-64 R2 VM so I want to use this configuration in the meantime.

    Hello.

This is a fully supported configuration.  You can check this in the HCL.

    Good luck!

  • ESXi4 to ESX 4 update

I wonder if there is documentation to follow for ESXi 4 to ESX 4.  I tried to add the license key to my setup with no luck.

I want to keep my existing VM and not lose them or have to re - install everything.  I felt someone to talk to on sale @ VMware that it was a natural progression (free version to the paid version) and in my mind that means that it's easy.

I have not actually tried to use the vSphere Essentials bundle so I may be wrong here, but it seems that this third line is incorrect.  License should give you licenses 3 x 2 processors, and of what you put in there, it looks like there's only 1 CPU.  Again I could read it wrong because I've never used this package, but to me it seems incorrect.  If you try to add a server with 2 processors, then this might explain why it does not work.

I would call VMware as you said and make sure you have the right licenses.

  • Apache manual updates can be applied to the ESX 4 Server?

We use a product called retina to perform security analysis and she claims that Apache on servers ESX 4 (update 3) is a vulnerability and must be updated.  We can perform updates or it will cause issues with the services?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

In the "ESX 4 Patch Management Guide", he says in the FAQ:

When a rpm on my ESX host has an equivalent Linux, can I use the Linux RPM to upgrade my system?
N ° VMware recommends that you update your host ESX 4.0 with RPM provided by VMware.

It is possible that the vulnerability has been also updated by VMware and an official patch is avaiable for her.

    Good luck!

  • How can I check the level of update on my ESX servers

I'm looking for upgrade to vSphere and check just wanted double that that each of my servers ESX patch level was.

I ran the esxupdate query and fail to find anything indicating that I am up to the ESX 4 update that I should be on.

My VMware tools in my guest OS is 158874, which is updated 4 I think.

any help will be much appriciated

UM, looks like to... If I remember correctly, you also have the build via VI Client number. When you select the host on the left navigation pane, you should have the host name and build version above the right pane.

Build numbers I gave you were for ESXi. Here are those for ESX:

    3.5 update 5 - Build 207095

    3.5 update 4 - Build 153875

    3.5 update 3 - version 123630

    3.5 Update 2 - Build 110268

    3.5 Update 1 - Build 82663

    3.5 - build 64607

  • Apply all critical updates on a 'ESX Update 1' hosts = "update of ESX 2"?

I applied 'Update 1-Complete' a few guests ESX, which worked well, but then noticed that many critical updates were waiting to apply.   With my Windows Service Pack / Update critical mentaility ceiling, I decided it was a good idea to apply all the critical updates, thinking that this leaves me in the 'day 1' so all available critical updates before the release of "Update 2".  However, after you apply all critical updates, build number seems to be "Update 2"?  I made sure the 2 update was not in the list of patches applied prior to reclamation.  So the question is, apply all the critical updates automatically asks you to a higher level of the major version.  In my case, lifting the crowd of ESX4 update 1 to ESX 4 Update 2?  I need clarification on this because I need to stay in 1 update constraints HCL.

    Thank you!

don't get too confused, there is a bug in 4.0.x but has been fixed in 4.1.  In addition, there is a known issue in vCenter 4.0 base patches U1
