ESXi 4 and Core i7

Hi, I couldn't find the HCL for ESXI 4 and Core i7 (Intel Xeon not based on the Core i7). Is this one? If anyone has ESXi 4 running on i7, please indicate your configuration.

Thank you!

Of course, here are the specs:

ASUS RADEON HD3450 256MB GDDR2 PCI-E VGA/DVI/HDMI

ASUS RAMPAGE II GENE X 58 SEC - 1366 MATX

INTEL CORE I7 920 2.66 GHZ, 8 MB S - 1366

INTEL GIGABIT NIC PCI WB

OCZ PLATINUM XTC 6 GB (3X2GB) PC3-10666 DDR3

OCZ 2.5 # SUMMIT SERIES 60 GB SSD MLC SATA/300

Nic integrated on the MB does not work with ESXi, which is why the Intel Gigabit PCI NIC extra.

Also, I have an additional drive for models and ISO, but running most of the VM:s of the SSD.

Best regards

Linjo

  • VMFS-4 on ESXi 5 and RDM

Hi, I have two hosts ESXi 4.1 and I introduced just an ESXi 5 host to the mix (iSCSI SAN).  All guests can see all LUNS.  I wanted to test the presentation of a new physics-4 to RDM LUN an exisiting VM, but when I try to do, I get the message 'mappings LUN with a capacity greater than 2 TB can be stored on VMFS5 data storage only.

    1. Should I first put the hosts ESXi 4.1?
    2. The upgrade will convert iSCSI VMFS-4 VMFS-5 data warehouses?
    3. Will it hurt anything to have the VMFS-4 data warehouses presented an ESXi 5 host
    4. Just to clarify, physical RDM disks over 2 TB are now supported in ESXi 5 - correct?

Thank you for your help.  I'm about to buy VMware Essentianl is told by the way.

Should I first put the hosts ESXi 4.1?

-No - you can do it with the existing configuration, but the virtual machine would be limited to just the 5 ESXi host.  You will need to create a new data store, present it to the host ESXi 5 and create a vmfs5 data store.

The upgrade will convert iSCSI VMFS-4 VMFS-5 data warehouses?

-No - upgrade is a manual step that you perform on the data store.

Will it hurt anything to have the VMFS-4 data warehouses presented an ESXi 5 host

-There is no problem doing this.   If the virtual machine is version 7, you can run the virtual machine on ESXi 4 or 5 of material.  Once that you upgrade the version of the hardware for the virtual machine can only be executed on the host ESXi 5.

Just to clarify, physical RDM disks over 2 TB are now supported in ESXi 5 - correct?

-Yes - RDM physical and data warehouses can exceed 2 TB.   Virtual disks and RDM virtual are still limited to 2 TB.

  • ESXi 5 and problem of controller 4.1 u1

    Hi guys

I have a server IBm x 3850 X 5 using a controller, ServeRaid B5015 SSD question is I am able to configure RAID 1 controller but when I install, I'm not able to see the internal drive as an option to install... it's like ESXi 5 and u1 4.1 missing drivers?

    This controller is not supported?

    Am I missing something here?

    Thank you very much

    Hello.

This card is not on the VMware HCL, and IBM documents do not appear in the list of support VMware.

  • Attempt vSwitch configuration change and now the ESXi host and virtual machines offline

So I have no doubt, I have myself to blame for this one. I was trying to change my vSwitch from 100 Mbps to 1000 Mbps when an 'operation timed' error out jumps-to the top and my vCenter Server lost connection with my ESXi host. I tried to restart the host manually, but that did not help. The host is not the ping requests and all the virtual machines on that host are offline; None of them vMotion off to my other ESX Server.

I tried to reconnect the host computer in vCenter, but it is obviously does not connect because it can't ping it. I logged the ESXi console and all the network settings appear to be correct. I'm used to connect to the ESX console where you can execute commands, but it's my first ESXi host, so I don't know what I can do.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    -D.

If you had your management port and VMs on different vSwitches / NIC leave on framework would eliminate a false positive. As in your case the management port reportedly follows the cable / about speed, but the virtual machine network would be intact (and I'm assuming that your storage space as well).  In this case the VMs system would have worked very well even if the management port did not work.

  • ESXi (free) and virtual Center.  I have to buy ESXi Foundation to manage?

I have a bunch of servers ESXi (free) and now I want to manage them centrally.  I have the pirce for virtual Center, but I'm not quite clear on whether or not I need to change the ESXi license or not?

    Thank you

    Hey,.

    http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/ESX_Server_3i_presentation.PDF

Take a look at page 12, it will show the different types of licenses with ESXi.

You will need to buy at least the basic license to enable management of the VC.

  • ESXi taken and casings of VM

    Hi Experts,

Just confused on the cpu sockets that we attribute to the virtual machine. It is recommended to assign multiple sockets to a virtual machine that is available on the ESXi host. For example, if the ESXI host has on 4 plugs; It will be advisable to assign 8 sockets to the virtual machine running on the esxi server.

    Concerning

You should never assign vCPU more than the number of physical cores you have in your ESXi host a unique virtual machine and another good practice is just start small (with less than vCPU) and affect more vCPU only when necessary.

  • VMWare Esxi 5.5 Core dump to disk

    Good afternoon!

I am facing a problem in VMware esxi free 5.5.

The server is crashing and showed a purple screen with the message "core dump to disk. Site 1 of 1... ».

I searched on the problem but have not found a solution.

We are the migration from VMware to XenServer.

In my environment, I have a San with Equallogic PS4100.

Can someone tell me what could happen?

    Image attached.

    Thank you.

It seems that you are affected by this problem:

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/2059053

    https://communities.VMware.com/message/2301745

Unfortunately there is no patch for ESXi 5.5 still. The solution is to replace the vNIC e1000 in virtual machines with one another as the vmxnet3 vNIC.

  • Could not find the device with uuid - ESXi 4 and 5 - Dell 2950

    Hello

I am installing ESXi4 or 5 on a Dell 2950.  I'm not an expert material guy, but I think the controller is a Perc 5 controller hardware / i.  It is a processor of Intel Xeon dual core CPU 2.

    The link of compatibility:

    http://www.VMware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

I see only the processors Xeon 5xxx and above seem to be supported, and I honestly don't know if mine it fits or not but when I had installed CentOS and made ' less/proc/cpuinfo', no model number came, just that it was a Xeon processor.

When I install ESXi on this server (I turned on hardware virtualization in the BIOS), the installation looks ok, but when the computer restarts, it always seems to try to load my old server CentOS so it's as if the installation has not completely replace the drive. Raid Controller had 2 virtual disks so maybe I didn't replace what was a disc of "boot"?  I will try that next.

Guess I'm looking for confirmation that the CPU is ok and I'm missing nothing else.

    Thank you

    Charles

1 in the raid bios remove the raid and create a new one, and then reinstall esxi.

2 when you install also use iso Dell:

do both and you should have a running system.

Yes, it's the same file. The two show under systems supported and same hash.

  • Number of processors and cores in AWR report

    Hello

I have a report AWR to my system and a couple of entries confuse me.

Q1. It's showing 3 carrots, 2 Sockets and 4 processors. The CPU and the Sockets, I understand that 2 chips with 2 processors per chip so 4 CPU.

What confuses me, is the fact that it shows 3 carrots. Is that that by CPU cores? Othererwise 3-4 makes no sense?

Q2. What is the difference between DB, time CPU and CPU DB?

My understanding is that DB time is the time used by the process, including the time processor and wait time. Because a system can have more than one processor, it is quite natural that DB time may exceed to elapse time - since you have multiple processors that contribute to this time (I guess that DB time cannot be really more time elapse * our processors?)

In fact, you could say if DB time does not exceed the time to elapse, then you have a Nock idle system?

My understanding of time CPU, is that it's time where each process actually gets treatment CPU (so it does not time-out). I think that the AWR report confusingly used the term time CPU and CPU DB, to mean the same thing?

    clearly greatly appreciated

    Jim

    Hi Jimbo,

Q1. "Nuclei" in the CWA report represents the quantity of physical processor cores and the "processors" takes into account the simultaneous multithreading so in your case, one option could be a CPU Socket has a dual core (not type hyperthreading) and the other CPU Socket has one heart (hyperthreaded). If this is the case, you will have 3 physical 4 CPU cores, (because it takes into account the hyper-threaded architecture) and 2 taken. It's just an option, you will need to check it out.

Q2. No-Idle wait events are events that are not classified by Oracle as a "Idle" of events to wait wait:

    • Example of Idle wait-event: SQL * Net client message (server process is waiting for the client process to do something)
    • Idle wait-event example: db file scattered read (event waiting user IO representing a multilock read as full scan of the table or full scan small index.
    • You can get a complete list of active waiting events by running:

    Select name from v$ event_name where wait_class <> "inactive".

    • You can get a full list of the events of inactive waiting by running:

    Select name from v$ event_name where wait_class = 'Idle '.

DB time is therefore the sum of all events of active waiting and also the CPU time that is a statistic:

    • You can see the value of the amount of time CPU in 10s of miiliseconds (centisecondes) for an exeuting session:

    SELECT THE VALUE

FROM v$ sesstat JOIN v$ statname USING (statistics #)

WHERE name = 'CPU used by this session' AND SID =

    • You can see the value of the time total CPU in 10s of milliseconds (centisecondes) for the instance of exeuting:

SELECT the value from v$ sysstat

WHERE name = 'CPU used by this session.

    Try something like this

    Get-VMHost |

    Select Name,

    @{N = "Syslog collector"; E = {}

    $script: esxcli = Get-EsxCli - VMHost $_

    $esxcli.system.syslog.config.get () | {{Select - ExpandProperty RemoteHost}},

    @{N = "Empty the collector"; E = {}

    $dump = $esxcli.system.coredump.network.get)

    {if($dump.NetworkServerIP)}

    "$($dump.NetworkServerIP):$($dump.NetworkServerPort)"} ".
