ESXi bypass Networkinterfaces

Hello

I have a little problem with the virtual switch.

I have a hardware switch and there is a port configured as "monitor", so that all ports and VLANs monitored on this port.

If I connected directly to a computer on this port, I can see all traffic from the switch.

But if I connect it with the Esxi Server I can´t see anything.

I tried to configure the VLAN in the virtual switch, but this won´t function too.

Is there a possibility to fill the virtual NETWORK adapter directly to the NIC hardware?

Or do you have other ideas?

Thank you!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah...

You have activated the promiscuous on policies vSwitch properties mode?

With the help of an initiator iSCSI in the prompt isn't MSCS in vSphere. You'd be ESXi bypassing everything and goes directly to the storage group.  To MSCS in vSphere, you need to use RDMs, whether they be physical or virtual.

    Hi guys

    The card is

  • Start a Discussion on vSphere / VLAN Trunking in ESXi

This is my first post to this community of VMware, so please bear with me if I'm missing something simple. I went to a discussion to ask this question under vSphere, but for some reason that I'm not able. I chose to follow the community of vSphere, but for some reason it is grey when I try to choose to start a discussion. Thoughts and guidance?

The real question, I would like to ask on vSphere is how to configure trunking VLAN on a single host (no vCenter) using the vswitch standard. I find a lot of links like this one http://www.rustyhann.com/ESXi-06-Create-vLAN.pdf that describe the process of setting up a trunk on the switch port, then assign a VLAN ID to the ports on the ESXi host groups. When I change the switch to a trunk port, I lose conductivity to the host, so I can manage it is no longer. In addition, on the host, I see no VLAN ID and I don't see any configuration which leads me to believe that the switch is inform the host (thru VLAN Trunking Protocol or any other means) which have the VLAN. I might be able to answer this question for my part, I can bypass the first issue. Thoughts and guidance?

    Thank you. Best.

  • Fees ESXi 5 installation - Disk Boot Failure

I've just set up a new unit.  8 core processor, 32 RAM, 1 TB HD.  I'm stuck trying to install VMware ESXi 5.  using motherboard Gigabyte GA - a 970 - UD3.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and press ENTER, is the message he said after loading OS...

I threw in an old dell windows reinstall the cd to see if it bypassed this error, and he did.

I tried another file .iso of another copy of windows, and he gave me the same error as the esxi disk 5.

Any ideas?  Is it possible that my motherboard does not recognize the iso files as bootable files?

P.S. I have to keep my HD unplugged, b/c when its im plugged by getting "NTLDR is missing, press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart" error message.  Im hoping once I have esxi installed, I can update all drivers and get rid of this error, so that I can load it from the hard drive.

    Welcome to the community,

Is it possible that my motherboard does not recognize the iso files as bootable files?

When you burn a CD, do not burn the ISO as a file on this CD, but use the "Burn Image" of the CD burning application.

  • Hi everyone, whenever I'm hot - migrate (Live vMotion) my VM nested under my ESXi nested in another nested ESXi VM VM, I get an error. Please find below the text. Please help me. Thank you!

It's the error every time I migrate nested virtual machine while it is running: "the virtual machine could not resume on the destination during the early feeding the.»
You are running VMware ESX through a hypervisor incompatible.  You cannot power on a Windows virtual machine until this hypervisor is disabled. »

I already have the connections on my nested ESXi instances. Like, material = monitor.virtual_exec and monitor_control.restrict_backdoor. I also configured and I ran the echo "vhv.allow ="TRUE"' > >/etc/vmware/config order on my PuTTY that I connect to physics ESXi hosting ESXi nested VM instances." I also configured the VMs ESXi to activate MMU/CPU AMD Virtualization etc - V on the Options tab of change VM settings.

I'm talking about vSphere 5.0 here people. Thank you so much everyone. What can I do or what I missed? I need to migrate my VMs nested under my ESXi nested successfully.

    Thanks again nested VM experts!

ESXi does not support on your processor hardware-assisted virtualization.  If your processor is AMD - V, there was a design flaw with the first generation of AMD - V parts that we have chosen to not to bypass.  You will not be able to run virtual machines nested on this material.

ESXi 5.0 supports AMD - V only on later processors and family 10H.

Any isttalled of the virtual machine in VMWare Workstaion can surf the internet and see the other devices connected to the local network. Physical and virualized machines.

Virtual machines installed in the ESXi peut obtain DHCP from the DHCP server on the local network or physical addresses.

For ESXi virtual machine is implemented with bypass and four NIC

  • OVF import directly to ESXi without going through the bottleneck of Vsphere client

I'm currently installing the OVF VMA to ESXi 4.1. ESXi is installed in a data center. VSphere client is installed on my computer at home.

I chose the URL to install from the ESXi thought it would download directly, but no, it seems that the VSphere client wants to download and then upload to the data center via my broadband connection bottleneck domestic. I'm looking now to 233 minutes to make all this happen.

I'm still on a learning curve steep then there may be something obvious that I missed, but is it possible that I can bypass the internet connection is slow my home computer (I only have 1.3Mbps uplink speed) and deploy the OVF directly in the data center?

There are command line tools that I can run on, say, a VM Linux running VSphere CLI to do the same thing? I couldn't find anything in PDF files, I watched so far.

    Thank you...

    Welcome to the community,

you do not have access to the vCenter Server? In this case, you can open a vCenter Server RDP session and run the top vSphere Client to download and import the vMA.

  • VIX with Freebie ESXi

    Hi all

I try to use VIX 1.7 remotely against a test server ESXi 3.5 (VMware ESX Server 3i, 153875 3.5.0).

He fails by the API connection (no error), so I tried to go to the basics and using the vmrun.exe with the following command as root.

    U:\vmrun t h esx https://10. * . *. 223:443 / sdk u * Pei * start "[[datastore1]] XYZ-XP02/XYZ - XP02.vmx.

When I do this I get the following error message "error: this operation is not supported with the current permit.

Do I need a different license? or am I missing something obvious?

    Thank you very much

    Sam.

The main reason is explained in the following article: http://vmetc.com/2009/03/31/esxi-u4-ends-free-version-read-and-write-access-from-the-rcli/

From VIX 1.6.2 even with the fix implemented for ESXi 4.0 & 3.5u4, he continued to work, since the code of VIX was not 'written' to adhere by the policy of the product line VI/vSphere as explained here: is not happy with lockdown 3.5u4 VI API/RCLI ESXi? Worry not, VMware VIX to the rescue... for now =) ... but it seems that with the latest version of VIX 1.7, it was reorganized and much earlier than I would have thought.

Long story short, you'll need to use one good license other than the free version to be able to use the VIX to manage your VM (s) or perform operations of comments within the virtual machine. If you 'some' VIX feature with the free version of ESXi (one of them), install VIX 1.6.2 and you will be able to bypass the license problem.

  • ESXi beginner - advice and tips...

Hi, I'm after a little advice from some of you, the "experts."

I'm a bit stuck in a mine of information on VMware and is a little difficult to choose the relevant parts so I thought I would ask from reading this forum, he seems to have a lot of very useful people.

I'll start by giving you an overview of my hardware config.

    ML115 G1

    8 GB RAM

Adaptec 3405 controller (on the HCL)

    Dual Pro1000 MT server adapter

    (4 x) 1 TB SATA drives

The reason why I had the 3405 had to work around these "problems" with the integrated SATA MP55 controller more this controller has some significant performance issues so I decided to all 'bin' instead of trying all these works around modifying the files in config etc...

This is not a "production" server, there is a facility to provide me with (a) an off-production VM environment I can experiment and learn from and (b) to enjoy maximum material resources I (at home) that is not buying more physical hardware.

    OK, on my first question.

'You' how to install the disk storage / in this system?

So far, I can see a few alternatives.

First, I tried the extract and restore 'VMware-VMvisor-big - 3.5.0_Update_3 - 123629.i386.dd' on a USB and use it as the method of boot device.

This works very well and gets to the top server and run, but I have problems with the maximum size of 2 TB LUN. I read a few threads on this subject and it seems that VMware suffers from the windows of same size starting device limitations. VMware sees everything in table 2.7 Tb (if I use all 4 disks in a RAID5 configuration), I can only create a data store in the first 744,9 GB and the rest of the space is not available (I think that this is due to VMware 2 TB subtracting from what he can see, and only available to the remaining amount).

I also imagine that another way to get around this is to split the LUN in 2 tables (for purposes of demonstration, let's say a 750 GB and a to 1.98) that although I have not tested this so far, I imagine that it could bypass the above the size of the problem.

And then it dawned on me that I could simply create a third table from 1 to 2 GB to 'install' ESXi in and thus save using the USB stick (again, not yet tested).

And that's when it dawned on me that it would be prudent to check what are the opinions of people who really know VMware regarding how they configure the disks in this system. I also always found I learn better by reading/listening how 'experts' in a particular approach a problem and then I can see/understand their logic of how they arrived at this conclusion in the end.

So, how do you set up these discs?

With or without boot USB device?

    tables 1, 2 or 3?

And thanks in advance for any help/pointers.

    Kind regards

    Jamie

RAID 5 is generally considered a bad idea because of performance issues.

I disagree, it would be of Netapp.  In fact, they use RAID 4 on their SAN (because the parity is on one or two discs by matrix instead of the whole band, alleviating hits on all drives).

We missed cues and the biggest difference is the cache to the RAID card and the number of readers, 4 disks is cut close, 6 would be better and 8 even better, but performance isn't bad for RAID 5.

RAID 10 is maybe better, but losing half of the disks, how good can it be?  Not worth the cost of disk space.

  • install ESXi on an existing machine under windows 2003

    Hi all

I'm new to VMware and I just installed ESXi on a machine with server 2003 installed. My questions are:

1: can I still access my windows 2003 server, bypassing the connection of ESXi? If so, how? If not, it means that after I had installed ESXi on this machine, Server 2003 is removed.

2: How do I reinstall the ESXi on this machine?

I converted two of my physical servers into virtual machines using the converter. And my questions are:

1: after you import the virtual machine, I deleted it from the VMware client. This particular virtual machine is no longer visible but still displays taking up resources such as HDD, CPU, RAM etc. How to release my resources?

2:i have two network cards in the physical server, and when I've converted and brought it into a VMware customer, everything is ok except the network cards. They show that some cards AMD NIC. I'm not able to use network cards. And I already tried to convert twice i just cases that something went wrong with conversion. but the problem remains.

    Thank you.

    AG

As the other poster mentioned, (ESXi and ESX) are installed bare metal - they install their operating systems, so I think your Win2k3 installation is missing if you have it installed on the same disk.

When you removed the VM you remove disk or delete forminventory - if you have removed the inventory and it was running, it will still resources - for the correction of network cards virtual you need to install VMware tools - this will load the appropriate virtual machine drivers and it will improve your performance - up to this virtual material of your virtual machine will be identified as a physical hardware as the AMD PCnet Ethernet controller-

There is no way to bypass the blocking of Activation. You will need to find the former owner who put the lock on it. If your friend doesn't know who it is, then not be able to activate the device. It is useless to you and no one here could help, nor the Apple will.
