  We have just updated since the free version of ESXi 5 by ordering the Kit of Essentials. In the process, of course, we were able to deploy vCenter Update Manager (which has been the main motivation, like patching manually the free version seemed to be quite a pain). We have a Windows host that has installed the Update Manager, and we have a VCSA running on the single instance of ESXi, we deployed to date. We were able to install the plugin on the viClient and scan the ESXi host for patches with success (a need a good number). But, we're stuck trying to install the patches... us when trying to restore the host, we get: "the operation is not supported on the selected inventory items. Check events for the objects selected for the operation.

  Looking at this logic, for the host switch to maintenance mode, the VCSA should have been suspended (apparently, actually moved), which would avoid in turn patches / updates to the deployment. Am I correct in thinking, that we have a second host and networked storage? Made a Kit Essentials / license provide for the possibility of vMotion from one host to another? It wasn't really clear... Yes, the web site says "vMotion" is included in most Essentials, but find it me hard to imagine any point to a facility in ESXi stream without the ability to vMotion between one system and another guest...

  And since you have only an ESXi host and your vCSA is running on this host, you cannot patch this host with Update Manager for reason that already know you: the host should be the maintenance mode.

  Add about another host, with Kit Essentials without vMotion functionality, you can try using a data store of shared storage between two hosts, stop the vCSA on first host and switch the vCSA on the second host... and finally the first host patch.

  Hello.

  Newspapers would continue to be logged locally, while the VMAs was not available.  Make sure that you also set up the Syslog.Local.DatastorePath, so that you don't lose anything.  See KB 1033696 for more information.

  Each executable is running in its own instance of the application - if one of them crashing will not cause the other crash * except * it is based on a shared resource or a shared component of NOR - for example if your program crashes because they use shared variables and blocks shared variable engine, then you will have problems.

  We often run two or three applications in tandem - the only time that we had a problem was when there was a problem with .NET that has caused so much crash.

• ESXi host running 6 VCSA disconnected from the vCenter

  Hi guys,.

  I have a weird problem with my vCenter build 6. Single cluster of ESXi hosts. Running VCSA 6.0 and 6.0 ESXI. Making a storage of the vCenter vMotion initially got stuck at 77% and the ESXi host running the disconnected from vCenter vCenter. But I can connect directly to the ESXi host with vsphere client and see the vCenter VM works perfectly well. If I try to manually connect host ESXi and vCenter, I get the error "Failed to contact the host specified") both are in the same subnet and VLAN. I can migrate to other virtual machines without problem. I even restarted the host and yet I am not able to connect to vCenter. The host connects to vCenter if I reboot vCenter, but after a few minutes, disconnects again (even if no task does run on this topic.) I have no HA or DRS enabled at this point that I build this new environment and only presented a single LUN as a store of test data to the cluster.

  Any ideas?

  OK, I think I fixed that or have at least a work around. So the underlying question was hiding ID mode/CPU EVC. I'm under the cluster to a level of EVC to reduce until I have migrate workloads from old environment and I think that this created a problem for the unit vCenter. To resolve this problem, I turned off the unit, directly connected to the ESXi host that had the camera running, edited the virtual machine and reset the masking of CPUID. Also, I've hidden the flag NX/XD of the guest. It's temporary (I hope) as once I increase the EVC to the Haswell, I will expose the NX/XD comments and test. For the moment, it is of the workaround I did. It may be of some use to someone.

  I'm about to integrate the vCenter Server Appliance in our environment, but I have more questions before taking the plunge.

  (I'm doing a clean install of 5.5 - not an upgrade of 4.1 vSphere - which is our present environment)

  I keep reading that VUM does not work with VCSA. But you can create a virtual Windows machine and install VUM, then install a plugin (?) to integrate in VCSA. How does this work exactly? I do a clean install of ESXi 5.5 on 3 new hosts. I have install the vCenter device as a virtual machine. I also intend on creating a virtual machine to act as the vSphere Update Manager. Can I use this simple VM (like the VUM) and use it to upgrade all ESXi hosts? Or I have to build 3 VUMs for updating each host? All this documentation of vSphere made my blurred eyes!

  YEARS > Yes, VUM one server alone is sufficient to manage the updates/upgrades on everything within a vcenter Server esxi host. . So don't worry about it.

  We had a situation where our ESXi Server 3.5 running on a Dell 2950 with 2 guest operating system crashed on us all night.   The box still had the power, but was insensitive to the pings in network and the guest OSes were completely down.

  We had someone in the office who had to pull the power cables and reconnect it until the server would start up again.

  We wanted to look for the reason of the accident, but newspapers in var/logs/vmwmare/only note the entries from the current boot.   There is no historical.   Is this a normal behavior?   Y at - it an option to keep the entries of the history on the host?    Is syslog the only option for historical

  The reason for the crash may differ from a sort facility even if someone may have the crash this material may not be able to solve this problem. However, get recycled log files after reboot is normal. If it was an accident then you can get a core dump server.

  Will core dump gets essentially stored in the partition of vmcore, after the reboot, that it must be mapped to one of the partitions.

• Whenever I run Safari my fan comes at top speed and gets hot.  This does NOT happen with Firefox

  Since I upgraded to El Capitan, when I launch Safari, my fan is running hot, CPU goes into battery and use 100% drops quickly.  This does NOT happen with Firefox.

  Force Quit Safari and then restart Safari while holding down the SHIFT key. This will launch Safari without plugins or extensions. If works in Safari you have to remove all extensions you have installed and reinstall better one at a time until you find the offending Safari extension.

  Do you hear the names and passwords in the password manager or do you mean that you are connected is no longer on to (remember to) Web sites after the closing and restarting Firefox?
  
  There is a difference between remembering the name and the password in the password manager and a check box "remember me" on a web page.
