ESXi memmory (RAM) Licensing

Hi all!

Here's my question:

I have server with two physical processors and 64 GB of RAM. I'm factory 2 Standard vmware licenses and its ok for now.

But I'm sure I'll have to increase the RAM of 128 GB on this server. And how should it be allowed? Can I buy 2 licenses more Standard and connect it somehow to this server and or I hane, no choice, and I'll have to buy business licenses?

Thank you in advance!

You need not worry about this. VMware has abolished the stupid license restrictions vRAM long after it well justified outrage when vSphere 5.0 was introduced. You're fine with your current 2 licenses for two CPU sockets.

  • Where to find the ESXi 5.0 license key (Free 5.0 hypervisor)?

    Hi people

Sorry, maybe someone already asked this but I couldn't find an exact answer to my question.

I currently have a FREE ESXi Server 4.1 with a FREE license key provided by VMWare, when I downloaded the product.

I want to update my system (have 8 GB of RAM, so no problem with rights of vRAM) 5.0 hypervisor (ESXi 5.0)

I downloaded the ISO and it displays a countdown of the 60 day trial in my VMWare account.

But I've never had a license key for the FREE hypervisor 5.0 5.0.

    So my questions:

    1. hypervisor is 5.0 still a FREE product?
    2. a necessary or this license key will work just after the 60 day trial with limited functions?

    3. If a license key is required even for the FREE version. Why don't the VMWare Portal not provide me with a new 5.0 key?

    Kind regards

    Oliver

After login, click on the license tab and download, scroll up to where it says option 2: download ESXi. the license key is immediately below here. More far to the bottom of the page are links to binary files.

  • ESXi resources RAM

According to the ESXi Hardware Configuration where

ESXi requires a minimum of 4 GB of RAM physical. It is recommended to allow at least 8 GB of RAM to run virtual machines in typical production environments.

I have two virtual Windows Server 2012 with 8 GB of RAM and a FreeNAS with 1 GB

The physical server must have 24 GB of RAM, or I can calculate a different amount of RAM?

    Any suggestion?

    Hello

If you run Virtual Production servers, then you must ensure that you have enough RAM for ESXI host and virtual machines so that the hot air balloon, swapping do not occur.

In the LAB configuration, you can run ESXi host with less RAM than the total RAM allocated to the VM.

Also to allocate only required RAM and CPU to virtual machines.

  • ESXi 5.5 license error

    Hello

I am trying to add a Standard 6 of vSphere license to an ESXi host 5.5 using vCenter 5.5. The environment is the following:

    vCenter Server 5.5 Standard license

    1 host stand-alone ESXi 5.5

VPP L3 VMware VMware vSphere 6 with the standard of operations management

I'm sure that our supplier mentioned as a vSphere license 6 can be used on a host ESXi 5.5 but I get the following error when trying to add it to vCenter:

    lic_error.jpg

Can you get it someone please let me know if I can really add a vSphere license 6 to 5.5 ESXi host?

    Elodie

I'm sure that our supplier mentioned as a vSphere license 6 can be used on a host ESXi 5.5...

I'm not aware of such an option. To assign a license to vCenter Server or host, you must have the appropriate license key / version. What you need to do is to downgrade the license in your portal MyVMware.

  • Evaluation for ESXi 4.1 license?

I have currently 3 guests I'm apparently running ESXi 4.1 free edition on. I am to evaluate a backup program called Trilead VM Explorer that requires guests have paid licenses for these features. I wanted to see if it was worthwhile to buy the Essentials kit (which probably would include an appropriate license) and VM Explorer, so I registered assess vCenter 5 in the hope that it would give me a temporary license for the hosts. That doesn't seem to be the case, unless I'm missing something.

Is there a way to do this?

For the assessment of vSphere 60 period begins just after installation without needing a license key (this is why you do not get one). For systems installed longer than 60 days, you need a proper license key. Contact a partner of VMware or VMware sales representative to see if they can provide you with a trial key.

Yes. When you sign up for the free hypervisor type license you will be asked on the hosts how you install ESXi (for statistics).

  • Cannot add esxi 5 free license for eval installation

    Hello world

I have an ESXi 5 installation with 2 VMS running in eval mode. 21 days ago, and I'm adding to my free license. It accepts it, and then after about 15 seconds back in fashion eval. The key is directly from my portal of licenses when I registered for the eval and the "characteristics under license" section shows it installed correctly, at least for those 15 seconds.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Welcome to the community,

Activate/try all the advanced features (e.g. enable vMotion on a group of ports VMKernel, 8vCPUs assigned to a virtual machine,...)? In this case, you may need to remove the features/parameters that are not included in the free version before that you can combine the license key.

  • Question of ESXi and Vcenter licenses

    Hello

I bought vcenter just now as well as some vsphere licenses, however were still about 15 older ESXi servers that I want to upgrade and manage vcenter.

However, I am a bit confused about the cost of the upgrades for my ESXi free installs to connect to vcenter.  I watched the Essentials Kit where you can buy 3 licenses but it's to connect to vCenter Essentials.

What is the difference?  I'm guessing that you can not essential home standard licenses to vCenter ESXi...

I am not otherwise interested in HA or vmotion, I just need a way to access my vCenter ESXi.

    Thank you

Essential ESXi connects to critical vcenter. for your case, you will need to vsphere Standard to be able to be managed by the vCenter.

    Hello

You can read the following thread for more information on vCPUs vmware communities

    http://communities.VMware.com/thread/241669?TSTART=0

Personally I have not attributed more than 4 vCPUs to a virtual machine as I read somewhere the VM performance deteriorate when you allocate more vCPUs to your virtual machine, so you must check how VMs running in your server as well.

    Kind regards

Click home. Under the Administration section, click the icon of licensing.

    Click on manage vSphere licenses.

Enter the license key in the entrance of the new vSphere license key field (one per line).

  • ESXi 3.5 - license

    Hello

I am using ESXi 3.5 using eval for awhile.

I have a Linux box remotely that vm via API scripts: /usr/lib/vmware-vcli/apps/vm/vmregister.pl (followed by various parameters) and it works fine.

Just after that, I got a license number in the ESXi 3.5, I started having:

    SOAP fault:

    -

    Error string: error. RestrictedVersion.summary

    Lack of details: RestrictedVersionFault

Should it? If so, the ESXi is not designed to be remotely scriptable via vmregister.pl?

    Thank you

The free version of ESXi does not allow scripts to write, with a few exceptions. So yes it is planned. The minimum permission is the Essentials package.

  • How can I determine if the host is ESXi free or licensed?

How can one know if an ESXi host is ESXi free, or if it is allowed?

I searched through the crowd on a couple of different configurations and I don't see anything obvious that indicates this.  I ask because there are some features that only work on ESXi under license and would like to be able to detect the server type I'm talking about.

I guess that there is a way to do so under the ha - Manager of licenses.

    Thank you

    Eric

The method that I use to check for this in my scripts is to use the licenseManager watch ownership licenses and see if the license is equivalent to "esxBasic", the host is ESXi, if both these things are true, then you are using the free version of ESXi. In my view, there is another method in which the free version does not contain the full name of some kind, but I forgot what it was. If the above solution worked for me for some time and is simple to check
