  Yes, you can do what you want.  The important thing to remember is that you must place the userkey.psw back in the folder root of any external hard drive in order to to use.  You can move back in position using another computer if necessary.  Where keep you so far is entirely to you.

  Consider writing the password in a safe place instead.  A disc of rest password does not reach anything other than writing that can get the password down.

What is the problem?

  The problem is that when I am asked to insert a disc in the player I'd give myself a choice is not drive D, the name of the drive to my CD/DVD drive.

  3. type computer management in the start search box and press ENTER.

  There are all kinds of tutorials on how to do this if you Google it.

  The best way to reset your password for Windows user at this point is to create whats called Live CD (or USB).

  You start in this Live CD and follow the instructions to reset the password.

  You will need access to another computer and download the software to create the Live CD.

  There are several Linux-based programs that do this, but I like Lazesoft.
  I learned of the Lazesoft Recover My Password by looking at Britec09 which makes tech YouTube tutorials.

  Lazesoft makes the process easy and you don't need to know the command prompts.
  The software downloaded will be also set up and install on a CD or a usb key without installing anything extra. Just follow the guests. The best part is a free edition just to remove the password.

  Sorry, but Microsoft prohibited information provided in these Forums for anyone who has problems with a lost or forgotten password.

  I suggest that you reinstall the operating system.

  If you don't have a recovery disk, contact Acer support and they may be able to provide a disk.

  Also check to see if when you upgraded from XP to vista, if you wiped the 'hidden' Acer recovery Partition to back to how it was when new.

  Do you it by pressing Alt + F10 at startup and follow the instructions to reinstall XP
