Export InDesign to Epub

Hello

I use InDesign CS6 once a year at the most. Recently, I received an INDD file for printing that I needed to put in place for ePub. I put in place of the paragraph and character styles and applied to the document. The chapter headings are H1 and split export. During export, select split based on tags. The problem I had was that the new xhtml files were called isbn1.xhtml, isbn2.xhtml, etc. I expect the files to be named chapter1.xhtml, chapter2.xhtml, copyright.xhtml, defined in H1 tags. I did rename the files and update the OPF and NCX files by hand. How can I get InDesign to name the files correctly when you export?

Thanks much for any input!

Sue

The file names are based on your InDesign file name. So I would say you file InDesign is named isbn.indd. If you rename the InDesign file to chapter.indd, then you will be happier with the result. You can not control individual files when exporting a single InDesign file. If you split the file upwards in different InDesign files and use the book feature to put them back together, she can use these file names, but off the top of my head I don't remember if he does.

    Hello

I compare the features export InDesign CC EPUB vs. CS6 and earlier versions. Not a big deal, unfortunately, but there is something that caught my attention. I don't know if it happens to you:

When I export my InDesign layout into a 2.0.1 EPUB file, everything is just basically the same as always. I develop, open the HTML code in Dreamweaver and work on the CSS styles.

But, if exactly the same file with exactly the same options to export EPUB is registered as EPUB 3.0 file and I try to do exactly the same thing, when I opened some of the chapters of my book XHTML in Dreamweaver, I don't get the CSS style sheet tab to go directly to the CSS styles. So I have to locate and open it manually.

I discovered that the only difference between the HTML even form my 2.0 EPUB and EPUB 3 which is the earliest has a line of XML code extra at the beginning as "< DOCTYPE =...". »

If I copy and paste this line in the HTML 3 export EPUB, then is able to locate its own CSS and put the area tab dependent files correctly.

So, is this could be considered a bug? Or does an EPUB3 convention to be followed? Because it's pretty unconfortable to work without these tabs!

    Hello

There is a problem in Dreamweaver that she is still awaiting the DOCTYPE, whereas it is really not necessary for xhtml5. It is a Dreamweaver issue rather than a problem of export with InDesign.

    Kind regards

  • Export InDesign CC problem in epub images

I have a problem with an epub in InDesign CC 2014. It has images placed in the text and some do not display correctly when the book is exported to epub.

I have attached a picture to show what's happening. The image is repeated in part at the top and then cut down.

This is not the case with all the pictures in the book.

The book is set up with a document of a book containing separate coverage, introduction, content files and each chapter in InDesign.

Each image was inserted in the text by me setting a return in the document formatted with a style of photo to the center of the image and put a few abova space and below the image and then placing the image of this paragraph mark. I have not formatted the images in any other way, and some had to be reduced to fit on the pages of the book. Most of the images that were brought down show very well, but we have this problem. Another SOM that is installed on the page that they were inserted into the images I have this problem of repetition.

I have exported the recomposable epub and then I used the standard export ID CC for the epub parameters.

It seems to me that created for the epub CSS is dealing with images as background images and repeating. I looked in the code for the epub and did not see where this is going well.

I've done several ePub for the customer even files with the images inserted in the text as this, and other ePub files did not have this error with the images.

Is someone can you please tell me why this is happening now?

    1.12.jpg

I found the solution to this myself.

You must set the images in the epub to export in png. The problem goes away.

I found this as a hint on a forum somewhere else after having done a lot of research. I can't find the link to the forum at the moment, but if I do I'll post it here as well.

Problem solved and the customer is happy.

  • Export InDesign EPUB 3.0 uses the color settings/CMS?

Comparing EPUB PDF export vs the EPUB appears as less saturated using JPG/96 dpi for exports. When I change to say absolute or relative color settings there is no difference in EPUB and it is in PDF format.

    Thanks, David

Unfortunately, CMS support seems only to work with the print files.

He is also apparently not used on the Internet in General. Web designers do not want to include the information of profile with their web images because it is greatly increases the size of the file and slow downloads.

  • No image exporting in the EPub document

Try to eliminate the problems as they come, I fixed a previous issue I've had with fonts not exporting do not, now I see the images that are in the original ID files are not exported to the EPub file. I re bound together and see the images in InDesign, but they do not export. I have the original ID files in a folder that contains the fonts in the document and the link file that has the images, then the file .idd.

Y at - it something I am doing wrong?

little a newbie here, but this should work, I've created the original ID files.

    any help?

What version of InDesign are you using?

I would try the technical standard of troubleshooting:

    Restore your preferences:

Troubleshooting 101: Replace or 'trash' to your InDesign preferences

Save the file as an INX to tackle corruption:

Troubleshooting 101: Export .idml or .inx to erase the corruption of files

  • image quality emf export indesign file to PDF

In my business, I prepare pdf reports. PDF files include graphics generated in excel.

    the process I use is:

make charts in excel-> export graphics to the emf format in the specific folder (as emf is done with macro vba to export)-> link EMF to indesign-> export indesign as pdf (print)

I am trying to implement a type of graph that includes transparency (in the specific case, a histogram with transparent colors, highlight a specific area of the graph).

EMF are exported "correctly", as can be seen in the fixed samples

the problem arises in indesign, when I export the indesign file to PDF (see final results):

-J' I used to use compatibility Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3), which - for what I understand - does not recognize transparency and causes the diagrams to export with transparency to 100%

-If I use greater compatibility (Acrobat 5 or higher), transparency is exported correctly but all the tables and "fuzzy" exported graphics (or maybe a little too intense). The effect is not considered at higher zooms - but it is important to me as graphics look OK at all zooms because report is sent to customers with initial view as full page.

using another format that emf is not a viable option. What can be a solution in this situation? I would like to understand what is the type of adjustment of export should I use to get a clean exit.

in case the problem is known, I would like if you can please redirect me to correct the discussion.

    Thank you.

You can post screenshots or link to files in a dropbox folder. That said, you are using an inherently low high-end, imprecise graphical format and is awaiting the results of high-end. There are tradeoffs here.

The best advice I can give you without you actually hire me to go through your workflow, is to stick with solid colors and make sure your transparency blend space in InDesign are defined in RGB if these documents will be viewed on screen only.

    Hey Willi,

Sorry I'm new to this. Here are the answers to your questions and I hope you can give some tips.

    1 OSX 10.9.2

2 indesign CC2014 (I just started to use during the last two weeks)

3 illustrator CS3 (files that have been given to me, have been created to CS6), I made a few changes to fonts that in CS3 before I had CC bought, but I tried one of the files transferred directly into CC instead of CS3 back and he still has the same problem.

    4. the file I linked IS an eps, I always do an eps because with all my files I leave the fonts in the file have and save a second file, the eps where I saw all the fonts to save all of the possible problems of fonts. But you think that I shouldn't do this?

    5. you can see the lines in Indesign only when high-quality screen, they do not seem to remain in the same position, but at 100% and 200%, they are quite noticeable while 600% zoom, they become less bright. These are dotted lines, they appear differently in each different photograph. I'm not export in PDF, a jpeg file because its for on a Web site. If the lines are perceptible in the jpeg format. I just tried a pdf and they are also in the pdf file. We did not think that what was happening only to images, but in a single file where there is a shadow on the text, he did boxing odd sam-lines around the text.

6.I exports the JPEG from Indesign CC

    7. I open the jpeg in Photoshop.

9 seem to stay the same size. You don't see them at all in illustrator eps files.

    10. I can't talk about it. How would know that? Where is that located setting? Thank you

    11. I don't know how to look for color mode - modes are that indesign CC is in CMYK mode. Illustrator CMYK. But when I export as a jpeg I change into RGB in the export process. How can I find the color space? I'm not very technical minded. I'm sorry. That's why I freak out when I get questions like this. I thank very you much for trying to help me.

  • Good tutorial for export from InDesign to ePub, to create correctly formatted as text in iBook?

    HI -.

I'm pretty much a beginner to learn to use InDesign. I thought to start with a simple project to a Microsoft Word document, plain text, well formatted and lets learn how to make an iBook.

However, even if the text is nice in my InDesign document, when I export to ePub and then open in iBooks, all text formatting is lost.

Where can I learn about the export of my InDesign document with formatting intact?

    Thanks in advance!

  • How to export InDesign EPUB iBooks author by Proofer book?

While working on iMac using OS 10.10.1 (Yosemite) and Id CC can't seem to export the document to EPUB, to import into iBooks from Apple author, but when trying to use "Proofer Book" Apple (version 1.0.1 (57) it says encrypted file (the file EPUB Id) and it can not evidence.) Y at - it a way to "décrypte" the document Id EPUB or is it some kind of DRM problem?

IBook Apple oven is a quick way to evidence recomposable EPUB on your iPad or iPhone, but does not support the encryption of fonts that InDesign is even if it is valid. You will need to re-export from InDesign, but disable "Include embeddable fonts" when exporting if you want to use.

However, with the Mavericks or Yosemite (10.9/10.10), iBook Proofer is a lot less necessary than in previous versions of Mac OS X, since these later operating systems comes with iBooks as a program on your Mac. Before it didn't, so people used iBook incubator instead of constantly syncing with iTunes in order to get new versions on the iPad to the evidence.

iBook Proofer has nothing to do with iBooks author, which is the creation of Apple program to create their own format ebook owner called an iBook.

If you try actually get an InDesign file into iBooks author (as it can import a Word file), then you need to export your InDesign to IDML file. Honestly don't see no interest in IDS to EPUB export and then import the EPUB, but I could be wrong, I have not compared or tested both methods. Really differently, your book will look like a .ibook like a .epub.

  • How to export a layout Epub fixed without encrypting the files of fonts?

When I export to a fixed provision ePub and you later want to convert it to a Kindle format fonts in the /META-INF/encryption.xml file are not retrieved correctly. How can I tell InDesign do not encrypt the font files and incorporate instead?

The CSS has nothing to do with encryption. If your font (ttf or otf) is applied in InDesign, the fontface markup will be automatically generated by InDesign and this markup does not matter whether or not the police is encrypted/hidden.

If you have used fonts under SIL Open Font License (OFL) license (Linotype, FontFont,... are not lic. under SIL!), you can extract the contents of your ePub, replace the font files included here, with the original font files and delete the encryption.xml file. Then you can convert it to Kindle. Of workaround does not work with typekit, skyfonts or services because you don't have access to the original font files. Over 99% of commercial fonts you cannot replace fonts epub with versions not encrypted, so be careful here. • Write HTML in ID for export is of EPUB

    Hello

Is it possible to write the code/HTML tags directly in an identity document and export it as what to EPUB? In other words, the HTML code written in ID will act as HTML code in the corresponding in the exported EPUB xhtml file. Who's going to stop me from incorporating this same HTML manually once the EPUB is created. If so, what is the right syntax?

If there is no documentation to indicate to me on this subject, I would appreciate it.

It's for CS4, but I would be happy to know that if it is possible in future versions of ID.

    Thank you.

    Hello

changing the syntax or the DOM directly in InDesign is not possible in CS4 and very limited in CC.

Regarding the ePub, InDesign is a conversion tool based on the best practice experience for the code it creates. It only lets you define your own structure or the envelopes.

I am trying to export an ID as an ePub book and get this error "TOC text anchor '_idTOCAnchor-1' in" / users/XXXXX/Documents/Dropbox/XXXXX/InDesign Documents/eBooks/XXXXXXX.indd "is missing (some XXXX Info for security." )

I have my table of contents style configuration in the Style Source for the book, the style of anchor points, book uses documents, etc. hidden layers.  The table of contents navigation works fine and hops at the appropriate places.  When I cracked open the ePub, the links in the content page all seem to point to the same anchor point - _idTOCAnchor-1 is this normal?  Has anyone encounter this bug before?

Another strange thing is it seems to ignore the paragraph style assigned in the table of contents style when generating the table of contents.

    Its quite maddening.

    Thanks for any help!

MiniUpdate - the problem still exists, however, by looking at the links, I can confirm that all the anchors text TOC are indeed rooted in the appropriate places.  Now, it's looking like a bug.  Would it because I have the elements using the paragraph on hidden layers styles?
