Today, I downloaded a zipped file and the "extract all" option is missing? When I double click, it doesn't open the program the zipped file is supposed to play in (i.e - iTunes, Windows Media Center), but nothing does not appear or play? What should I do?
Hi LadyJ03,
Make sure that the downloaded file is not corrupted.
Important The method below mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756)You can perform the steps described below and check if it works.
Restore and return the file Association in Windows Vista if Original
1. click on Start and then type regedit in the start search and press ENTER.
2. navigate to the following registry branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ [ext]
Replace the [exe] with the real extension of the file you want to restore the file type association to return to the default Windows Vista original. If you are not sure, simply browse through all the Sub-touche under FileExts.
3. delete the subkey named UserChoice.
4. exit the registry editor.

I can't extract the zipped files, all I get is empty folders
Hello
I use Windows 7. I have not downloaded another file compression/extraction software, I use the built-in software. If I try and open the zipped files by choosing the option "extract files" I wonder where I would like to save the extracted files. I said where I want them to go, everything seems to be fine, I told me that the files are checked and and a new folder is created. When I opened this case, however, I like that it is empty. Is - this from there anyway I can access the decompression software to see if something is wrong or there at - it an option to re - install?I am reluctant to introduce the third-party software zip that I use my laptop for my PhD thesis and I don't want to put in place something that will cause problems and send three years of work down the drain.Thank youHello
I suggest you to do the same steps that Marilyn has suggested, just with the files themselves. In addition, instead of click to open files from Windows Explorer, choose any program is indicated for each file. For example, choose Microsoft Word .doc file. Etc.

When I download ANY files on my computer (Windows XP), Firefox opens its ' own record (with Firefox icon); and displays the file name and a progress bar when file downloads - end with no zipped files NOT, as in no .zip or .7z, Firefox just stops (unless there is a process of "autonomous activation" in the file, such as an installation wizard)-it runs correctly.
However, when it is a zip file, MS Excel is enabled - Excel says 'unrecognizable format' - I have plenty of "-cancellation).

I created a zip of a directory tree file using "send to...". "'Compressed (zipped) folder '. When I try to "extract all...". ", he asks me a password for some (not all) of the files in the zip file. I does not have a password for the zip file. I didn't even know it was possible to have a password on a specific file in a zip! Needless to say, I can not give the password because I don't know what it is.
I tried the following:
(1) created with "send to...". "Excerpt from" compressed (zipped) folder ', with 'extract all... '. ». Result: request password.
(2) created with "send to...". "" Compressed (zipped) folder ", extract with 7 - zip. Result: No password query. All the files extracted intact.
(3) created with 7 - zip, extract with "extract all...". ». Result: request password.
(4) created with 7-zip, extract with 7 - zip. Result: No password query. All the files extracted intact. What I find most interesting is (3).
Does anyone have an idea of what's going on? Is there some kind of security on the files meta-data that could / should cause this behavior?

When I download compressed files, they go to the local level > temp location, when I extracted all the files, they are sent to the My Documents folder. Can I go to local > temp location and delete the zip file? Knowing that I still have the data in the My Documents folder.
Once they are checked, of course. If you want to keep a backup, you can move the zip file in your documents folder.
In fact, you can delete everything in the temporary folder that is not currently in use. Best time to do this removal is immediately after the start, before launching other applications.

Contents of the zip file of the extraction error UNC or mapped drive
In the last two days, I noticed an error in Windows Explorer zip file management. During the extraction of multiple files or folders to a zip file directly on a UNC or mapped drive letter, files Wizard previews only 2-3 "extract all files" - i.e. the extraction is incomplete. Using copy and paste in the Explorer window showing the zip to a different window of the Explorer showing the UNC/mapped drive destination also translates incomplete extraction of the archive, but it's a different set of 2 or 3 files that are extracted. Extraction of the zip on a hard drive works correctly.
Steps to reproduce the problem:1. open the zip files containing multiple files/folders in Windows Explorer.2. use "extract all files" or copy and paste the entire contents of zip archive to a UNC path or mapped network accessible drive.3. review the location target of extraction: only 2-3/folder files have been extracted.4 subsequently repeats steps 1-2 will add files to the location of the target at a speed of 0 to 3 files per race.Any suggestions to fix this?Hello sjd200,
