  My installation of obiee is on AIX (solutions for linux will be good). I installed successfully obiee. I created a connection odbc with no problems.

  I download and installed the dev admin too i.e. the stand-alone tool.

  Offline, the two 'import metadata' and after the table is imported, 'Examining the data' works without any problem.

  In online mode, I click on 'Import metadata' of the connection pool or file, both instantly connect. Once the table is imported, I select a column and say "Look at the data" and it says that the connection failed. Should the customer Oracle DB installed on the machine as unix? I tried to copy the file tnsnames.ora to my local computer to the OracleBI_1/network/admin directory, restart services and connected in online mode, BUT always "the connection failed".

  Could someone help me with this please? seems to be a known issue.

  I searched and found several threads included on this forum since a few years ago https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2315030 , but can't seem to find anything about "security.xml.

  So far, I did the following:

  Update bi_init on my local machine to the TNS_ADMIN parameter

  Update the TNA_ADMIN setting on the server in the file user.sh to the path of one of the tns files stored within the OBIEE folder hierarchy.

  I can access the tables directly using my user application on my local box and OBIEE works correctly online.

  Any ideas why my Admin Tool can not connect?

  Figured it out.

  For those who have the same problem, the OBIEE 11G client tools do not install the necessary folder hierarchy in its entirety. You must create 2 folders that things work properly. First in the orahome folder, create a network folder. In the network folder, create a folder admin. Then copy your tnsnames.ora file in this place.

  After creating the profile, you can copy the files from the existing profile. You must have at least three user accounts on the computer to perform these operations, including the new account that you created.
