Failed to read DivX AVI on Windows Media Center

I recently set up Windows Media Center on my Vista Home Premium SP1 Dell inspiron 1720 to try to distribute multimedia content for my new Xbox 360 Elite.

He agreed with success the extender of the Xbox, but on the Xbox video files and photo show as empty althouough, it can stream music from the laptop with no problems.

When I returned to my dell, I saw that my AVI DivX files do not appear in the Media Center or locally, and no more my photos! The only items that he picks up are subfolders in the folders that I added. If I run a DivX AVI movie through a Windows Explorer shell, Media Center will play that music, as if missing the codec - even if Media Player 11.0.6001.7004 has no problem with the even if I close Media Center and then open the file again.

SO why don't media library on Vista SP1 manage photos jpeg from Sony and Canon caeras, and why he can't play back AVI DivX in? Any help gratefully accepted! :)

Thank you!
Mike

Chris I am playing my AVI videos by Media Center windows (using vista ultimate 32 bit) via my xbox 360, does not.  I have Xbox Live but Media Center is still telling me that it does not recognize the codec.  If my AVi files playback is possible-how?  Is - not more easy if I just update for windows media center in Windows 7?

  • After the upgrade to 2 TB HDD, I am unable to play. AVI in Windows Media Player files

I used a program called BandiCam save games/windows on my Windows 7 computer. I recently upgraded to a 2 TB HARD drive and transferred all my files to the new disk. None of the Windows files were transferred by my request and now Windows Media Player cannot read the. BandiCam AVI files. I've read that it could be the Codecs of compression used by Bandicam however until I transferred all my files he was running fine records. I tested on my laptop with the same file, and it worked fine as well. Is there a debug/repair for Windows Media Player program? Or could I just re - install completely?

    Hello

Welcome to the community forums of Microsoft and thanks for posting the question. I've surely you will help find a solution on the issue.

    1. what happens when you tried to read the files using Windows Media Player?

    2. do you receive any error messages?

3 have you tried reinstalling the Bandi-cam program after upgrade to the hard drive?

    Method 1:

Try to uninstall and reinstall the Bandi-cam program and check with the question.

    Method 2:

To resolve this problem, you can try to install Audio codec and check if the problem persists.

A codec is a software to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or a video. Windows Media Player and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

A codec can consist of two components: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder performs the compression function (coding) and the decoder performs the decompression function (decoding). Some codecs include both components and some codecs only one of them.

For example, when you rip a song from an audio CD on your computer, the player uses the default Windows Media Audio codec to compress the song into a compact WMA file. When you play that WMA file (or any WMA file that may be broadcast from a Web site), the player uses the codec Windows Media Audio to decompress the file for music can be played through your speakers.

Try to play the .avi with Windows Media Player

  • Windows Media Center extender on my XBOX works initially, but not after reboot of my XBOX. Error: Failed to connect to the Xbox 360 could not connect to the windows Media Center computer.

It's VERY odd and very annoying!

I set up my laptop next to my Xbox 360 with an Ethernet cable directly connecting the laptop to the XBOX, and the laptop is on our wireless network. The XBOX has access to the internet (shared through the laptop), and when I test the PC connection and the connection XBOX Live sound fine to all.

So I'll try to set up Windows Media Center, it works great! I "Add Extender", put the code to 8 digits. It passes through the installation, all works, no problems and WMC opens on the XBOX, I can go into my library, watch movies etc... works great!

However! As soon as I turn my XBOX off and back on, it will fail to connect to the WMC.

He says his 'find Windows Media Center PC' which seems to work fine, it goes to the ' Windows Media Center loading screen "contact...". ", and after about 10 seconds, I get an error"failed to connect the Xbox 360 could not connect to windows Media Center PC. Make sure that the PC is turned on and connected to the network.

I tried to configure the Extender repeatedly, whenever it works fine until I restart the XBOX... :/ - and its strange cause I still the internet connection (shared through the laptop) after turning on the XBOX, its really JUST Media Center which is screwing around.

She continues to keep trying to connect then repeatedly fails.

If I wanted to, I could re-configuration the WMC Extender EVERY TIME turn off the Xbox, which works the first time without fault, but that's all just stupid.

I can't really understand what is happening here... any help would be appreciated.

  • How to read subtitles in Windows Media Center?

Hello! I bought a CD of movie and downloaded subtitles ".srt" for this movie. These subtitles ".srt" run in VLC media player by keeping just the video and the '.srt' in the same folder and two identical file names. But when I play the movie in Windows Media Center, the subtitles do not appear. How do I make them work?

    Hey Mary!
I'm sorry but I don't have the subtitles that are already there in the DVD. As I said, there are no subtitles in the DVD. There was just a .avi file. In VLC Media Player (that I currently use as my primary movie player), simply paste. SRT file in the same folder and check the file of the same name. VLC media player automatically detects and manages the subtitles with video. This technique works for all video formats that work with VLC Media player, includin, .mp4, .m4v, .mkv, .wmv, .avi, etc..

Is that we can run these subtitles .srt (sometimes .sub) with Windows Media Center?

You can, but you must tell the codec to load the subtitles.  I am assuming that you are using ffdshow, in video settings, there is a setting to enable and disable the subtitles, it is a function of the video decoder not the player, VLC comes just at a time.

  • When I try to open a PDF file with adobe Acrobat reader Windows Media Center automatically appears.

When I try to open a PDF file with adobe Acrobat reader, windows media center automatically opens. How to prevent this? I just want to open the PDF file with Acrobat reader.

The solution I think. If you right-click on one of the files and select open the file locations it now combined the file with adobe reader.

Yes - you simply need to change the associated file (and path) back to Adobe Reader.  (If that's your choice PDF reader.)

    If you did this:

Press the Windows Logo and R key at the same time to bring up the dialog box RUN.
Once you have the dialog box up, type in the following command and press OK...

    cmd /k ftype AcroExch.Document

That he return with? Should be something like:

    AcroExch.Document = "C:\Program files (x 86) \Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" '%1'

  • Error "Invalid Application" - failed to launch at the launch of Windows Media Center.

Original title: Windows Media Center Edition:

Current operating system: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP2, latest MS Silverlight installed

Freshly installed, all updates up to SP2, whenever I have open Windows Media Center, and then select Internet TV (TV + movies) I get an error stating:

    «INVALID APPLICATION - unable to launch «»

Nothing opens and I see all the icons TV.  I then click on the OK button and the app closes back to TV + movies (TV recorded - by default).  I can click on Play DVD, no problem.  I can click on the Netflix plugin (once again no problem).  The question seems to exist ONLY when I select 'Internet TV'.  I don't have a TV Tuner card in the machine, as well as setting up is not an option.

Note: I am a COMPUTER technician for over 20 years and have researched the matter only of trying many fixes that don't work not including:

    • sfc/scannow (does report no error)
    • CHKDSK (no corruption of reports)
    • reinstalled MS silverlight
    • Installed the Netflix option
    • Parameters, make sure all the General internet settings are selected correctly
    • Disabling the firewall/AV
    • Change Windows MCE receiver opening Service of the Local Service Network Service logon

Except to call Microsoft and forking over $99 - nobody knows what is the cause?

    Additional information:

After starting Windows Media Center, and then selecting TV + movies, under the heading Internet TV a bit dimmed it says "BETA".  Not sure if this has something to do with it.  Also on my laptop which has Windows 7, the Windows Media Center interface is different and seems to work without problems.  What gives?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
