Failures of Time machine

I had failures where time machine has failed to create a backup.  I was able to work around the problem by rebooting my mac.  After I do it, I select the time machine icon on the line top of the machine and do a 'back up now '.  Then it's successful.  Three questions:

1. What's happening here?

2. do you have any suggestions?

3. I don't have not tried "save now" without rebooting.  Would this work?

Please do reset a SCM and reset the PRAM, it is possible your drive external hard is preparing to fail and must be replaced. If you have purchased an external hard drive of product mass as that of WD or Seagate, consider a higher quality (and prices) as an OWC Mercury Elite Pro external hard drive, you can find them at www.macsales.com

If you don't know how to resets of the terms above, please click on iMac Intel SCM and reset the PRAM

  • Time Machine backups fail

I have a Time Capsule 2 TB 4th generation bracket place my 2013 21.5 in iMac running OS 10.11.3. For the two weeks have been a failure my time machine backups. A few nights ago, I was given the opportunity to create a new backup, which I tried to do. However, the new back-up has never been created - says still 'wait to first full backup"status on the menu bar. I am able to access the files on the Time Capsule that aren't in a backup file Time Machine and use Time Capsule as a router. When I enter the Time Machine on the iMac, it appears as if it has never been a comeback upward (which, of course, I guess). I tried to use the repair disk utility - I had to run on the Time Capsule, but it did not help.

    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Looks like you receive a message that a few nights under what looked like this:

It is probably the most frightening message that you never see when you use Time Machine, because it shows that your backups were corrupt. Time Machine will try to erase, and then create a new backup.  Unfortunately, sometimes Time Machine fails when it tries to do.

The best thing you can do right now is to perform a deletion process of resetting the data on the Time Capsule disk to completely erase the disk for errors and try again another backup.  If you decide to try this, you must copy all other files you might have on the time Capsule to another disk for temporary storage... unless you already have other copies (you should, otherwise, you have no backups for files on the Time Capsule).

Perform the zero... erase data, which will be probably 3-5 hours or so... should improve your chances of a good Time Machine backup when you restart the process... IF... the last problems were the result of software on the Time Capsule disk errors.

IF... the time Capsule hard drive is physically damaged... which is a possibility... you need to replace the disk in the time Capsule hope forward again.

  • Time Machine backup failure

    I get the message:

Time Machine could not complete the backup "Backups Time Machine". Full backup impossible. An error occurred during the creation of the backup folder.

I reboot the system and am able to do the backup.

    Three questions:

1 is my default backup drive and must be replaced?

    2. If I get a new drive, do I need to do any formatting when connecting it to my system?

    3. is there anything else that would work not to mention that the system restarts?

    Thank you!

I should add that failures occur about once or twice a week.

  • Is there an advantage to having a backup disk image of Macintosh HD (for MacBook Pro) to ease/speed of recovery after a disk failure rather than using Time Machine to recover?

I'm trying to understand the best way to prepare for the recovery of a failure in the drive for a MacBook Pro.

I do not understand the nuances of the time Machine - I know from personal experience that it is a recovery tool great when your existing drive is intact and you're just trying to restore a file.  But what happens if the drive has a hardware failure and needs to be replaced?

Is there an advantage to take periodic images of Macintosh HD for quick recovery (and then using the incremental backups Time Machine to catch up to the current position).  Or Time Machine may facilitate a recovery in case of failure of the disc just as easily/quickly that will give it to have a separate image backup?

Thanks in advance for your help.

YES!.  If you have a clone boot disk, you can either connect it to a MBP or Exchange it with the internal HDD failed and be back in business quickly.  Time machine, as good as is, can take several hours to restore your system, depending on the amount of data.

For cloning, I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner.  It is not free, but it's worth the price:

    https://Bombich.com/

I use it in conjunction with Time Machine.  (two backups are better than one)

  • Disk error backup external hard Time machine

    Hello
While that hurry to catch a flight, I accidentally disconnected my external hard drive (which I use for time machine backups) before ejecting.  Now the House, the time machine backup does not recognize my external hard drive.  I went into disk utility to try to repair the disk.  Here's what he said:

I could really use some help as to how I should proceed.  Any advice?

I think you need to clear this backup disk, and while you are this and do a full backup (which takes all afternoon to all night) you will be working without a net. If you do in idle time, and after checking your boot disk, the risk of catastrophic failure while the backup is low. Start now and in the future, you will have a backup.

If you have a different backup disk, add it and Time Machine will create a new independent backup on it, and then Time Machine alternate disks automatically.

  • Impossible to 'create' Time Machine backup service

I have Mac OS x Server v 5.1.7 running on a Mac mini (2.7 Ghz core i7, 8 GB RAM, mid-2011)) with OSX El Captain (10.11.6).

When I try to add a folder to use as the destination for my backups Time Machine, the button 'create' on the next screen does nothing!

How can I diagnose what is the error (if any?) and how can I work around this?

OK, I've been searching and I found everything about TIME MACHINE on these forums, but my question is still not answered.  My suspicion for why my attempt is a failure is due to the fact that the drive mounted by the mac mini is formatted with NTFS and mounted using Tuxera NTFS for Mac. How can I confirm this? If it is true, is it documented for OSX Server Anywhere? Why is there not an error message or something to help me?

  • I want to use Time Machine to format a new disk

I had a hard drive failure (it was always a secondary drive) and I want to format a replacement with Time Machine backups of the drive it is replacing. How can I do this?

You use utility disk to format, then Time machine to restore the files.

  • Time Machine crashes

Looking in my journal I find this:
com Apple.backupd: waiting for index or loan (100)

After consultation with google I find that the problem is probably related to a disconnection from the backup disk that happened earlier today, when I accidentally stumbled upon the USB when fixing my iPhone.

I barely touched, but it was enough to cause a disconnect.

I ' t may be something else though because it seems a little far fetched that a simple disconnect/connect must

cause such a catastrophic failure like that.

This post describes how Time Machine can lead to corrupted data when they are exposed to accidents:

Re: Time Machine 'Waiting for the index to be ready': what it really means?

If this is the case, then it tells me that Time Machine is not capable of handling disconnects and auto resume.

I'm guessing that disconnects happen every day to thousands of users of the time Machine.

So I'm expecting Time Machine to use a fault-tolerant Protocol.

    Maybe it's not.

Now, I get multiple instances of "com.apple.backupd: waiting for index be ready (100)" in my log file.

Even if the projector is not indexing.

It took about an hour to save 3 KB of data.

    Wow
    I'm NOT surprised!

I should also mention that I added all external drives including the backup drive to the exclusion of Spotlight list.
So they must not interfere with the backup.
However, when you add the backup drive, I received the message:

"My Passport for Mac ' is a Time Machine backup drive.

Spotlight will continue to search for Time Machine backups but seek no other items on the disk.

But why must it seek the backups at all.
Why would I want an index of my backup files?

    Tip: I don't want

  • I have my time capsule for base station; How do I set up just for Time Machine?

For several years, I have used Time Capsule as a wireless base station more backup Time Machine. I back up a Macbook Air (single user) and iMac with 2 users (two computers running on OS X 11.5). With Comcast Xfinity I need is more like a base station. In fact, I reset my router Xfinity name and password to replicate what was the name and the password to my Time Capsule network. But, now that it's done I can't understand of set up time capsule without set it up as a base station. The installation guide seems to suggest that I could do so by plugging the ethernet cable from the modem to an ethernet port which is not the WAN port. But this configuration did not work. The installation wizard only took me the steps to set up a wireless network. How can I simply we it with Time Machine as an external hard drive?

The installation wizard only took me the steps to set up a wireless network. How can I simply we it with Time Machine as an external hard drive?

Simply turn off the time Capsule wireless.

To do... Open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule, then click on modify in the window that appears

Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the next window

Change the setting for the Mode of network on 'Off '.

Click Update to save the changes

But... and this is a big BUT... This work of pourrait ... and maybe not. Even if the backup on the Comcast network seems to be working, there will be no help from Apple in case of questions or problems of backup.

The reason is that, so that your Time Machine backups be supported officially by Apple, users must save on the Time Capsule wireless, or connect their Mac (s) directly to one of the three ports LAN <>- on the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet cable connection.

  • behavior strange time machine

    This is not a complaint.

About once a week, I get a message that does not have a time machine backup.  I could solve the problem by rebooting the system.

About 4 days ago I got a time backup failure message. I rebooted the system, but not 'Back Up Now'.  I thought that the time machine disk was gone and had to be replaced.

Then, miraculously, time machine started working!  With the new backups in progress.

    Two sets of questions:

    1. is anyone else seen this happen?  If so, what ended up happening?

    2. any advice?  I've never used time machine to recover a version of a file that I've trashed, only to do a full system restore, after that I had a system failure.

    Thank you.

    1. no idea

    2. I would use disk utility > first aid to check your drive internal and also check the volume of time Machine.
