Fake certificate!

I have what appears to be a fake certificate - "Superfish, Inc." added 33 Firefox and Internet Explorer 11.

1. EACH SINGLE https connection I do is now verified by Superfish, Inc., on the two browsers - it's freaking me out.

2. I can't find any kind of information certificate Superfish, Inc. online, no one seems to have heard of him. SUPERFISH is a Visual Discovery company and doesn't seem to be a certification authority.

3. None of my other computers, with all combinations of browsers, a "Superfish, Inc." as a certificate on any browser.

4. I removed the certificates valid "Superfish, Inc.", and now I have used "this connection is not approved" message from Firefox.

5. I installed Firefox 2.0 on the same computer and it does not seem the problem - all pages are checked by the correct CAs on this browser, like DigiCert and VeriSign. Only 33 FF and IE 11 have this problem.

6. I have installed and run Malwarebytes anti-malware, which detected a browser hijacker (I think - it was a PUPPY. Optional.OutBrowser), which I cut and restarted my computer.

7. I tried reset and reinstall both browsers - Superfish missing FF, leave messages "this connection is not approved" on all pages, but it is always there in Internet Explorer.

What I don't understand is how only these two browsers are certificates of RECEPTION Superfish, Inc.. It's obviously some kind of virus or something, but it doesn't make sense anyway.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I'm panicking right now, because I need https and working on this computer really fast! I don't know where else to ask!

Looks like it was down to lenovo

I'm sure that you've read about the verification of the system clock: verification of validity of the certificates are no error in the date, time or time zone, and sometimes allowing to use an Internet time source, computers can introduce errors.

Assuming that's not the problem... Untrusted connection error page displays a code in parentheses (separated_by_underscore_characters)? Sometimes, you need to expand a section of the technical Details of the page to see the code.

To provide a specific set of next steps, please let us know the error code (or codes) you get.

For example, among users of Mac recently, a common code is sec_error_bad_signature and the most common reason for that seems to be the shield of Web of Avast. Web Shield intercepts your navigation and filter, but to filter sites secure, it has "fake" certificates for Firefox. Avast have set Firefox to rely on its false certificates, but which seems to fail on a regular basis.

To test this theory, try disabling scanning of encrypted sites. I saw these steps in another post (if all goes well, they apply to Mac):

    1. Open the Avast dashboard on an affected system.
    2. Select settings in the left side menu.
    3. Adopt a Protection Active.
    4. Click on customize next to the Web Shield.
    5. Uncheck the option "Enable HTTPS analysis", and then click ok

If that solves the problem, but you want to filter encrypted communication, you need to import the Avast! signature in Firefox Certificate Manager of certificates, References tab.

Hi Joan, have you seen "untrusted connection" errors lately? Sometimes does not load a site style sheets, and therefore the page layout is without style, if the servers providing these stylesheets are unreliable.

If you get errors of unreliable connection, so we have to help you understand why this problem can be solved. You can see the error page for a code in parentheses (separated_by_underscore_characters). It might be in a section of technical details of the page. Please stick to come back here.

Since you seem to use Avast, let me explore a possible explanation...

Did you know the secure certificate errors, for example the sec_error_bad_signature error code? If you have Firefox create an 'exception' to approve a suspicious certificate, concerning only the main server, and if the site gets its style sheets from a server secure, then the page without style.

  • Firefox blocks of trusted web sites

trying to order something online. Firefox saying "this site is untrusted. I have used the site before with no problems. They use IE or Chrome. Can you help me?

    hughmaccallum said

Is this a common problem when you have a combination of Firefox and Kaspersky? I did not use to get a problem. I wonder if the updates of Firefox have caused the problem? It is not a problem if I use IE.

It occurs when the trust between Firefox and Kaspersky is broken. Usually transparent Kaspersky inserts his signature certificate in the Windows (shared by IE and Chrome) system certificate store and Firefox certificate store, and there is no problem. However, if you use Firefox refresh, the old certificate store is removed and Firefox trusts are more "fake" certificates until it is configured to work with Kaspersky again. I'd say it's the most common scenario on this forum.

  • CatalystPublishCert.p12 - what is - it used to?

Hi, I had a general question concerning Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5, which is installed with Adobe Design Premium CS5.  If you go to:

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5\plugins\com.adobe.thermo_1.0.0.273393

You will find the CatalystPublishCert.p12 file.  Anyone know what this cert file used for?  I noticed that if you delete this file, you can not build of Flash Catalyst AIR applications.  Is there any other use of this file?

    Thank you

    Andrew

    Hi André,.

That's right, this file is used when you publish your project as an AIR application.  However, we recommend not to remove the internal files in Flash Catalyst installation folder.  This can do a lot of problems.  Is there a reason that you tried to delete this file?

If you want more information on what is the file...  Creating an installable .air file, sign the file with a digital certificate (similar to how mobile apps require a digital signature).  Catalyst uses a fictitious certificate stored in this file to allow users to easily create a .air file to demonstrate a prototype in a native window outside the browser.  When you create a real software that is shipped to customers, you'll want to use Flash Builder or the command line to sign an application with your own signature rather than the fake certificate.

  • the pirates gave a certificate fake windows

I had the pirates using my computer who put a fake Windows certicicate in my control panel.  How can I get rid of it or report it to someone?

Open Internet Explorer. Once it has opened and displayed fully your homepage, press Alt key to get the drop-down menus and choose Tools, Internet options. At the opening of the Internet Options dialog box, go to the property page and click on certificates , in the center of the page of the dialog box.

You should be able to find the certificate of thugs among the six lists that are there.
  • no reliable connection - certificate in reality is fake

When I try to access google.com, I get the message 'no reliable connection '. When I then go to the certificate, it shows this:

    Organization: DO_NOT_TRUST

    organizational unit: created by: http://www.fiddler2.com

So now what should I do? I ran multiple scans - microsoft security, malwarebytes anti-malware.

    You are welcome.

If you do not intend to use Fiddler you can uninstall this program via the control panel Windows (programs).
You can leave the connection without proxy setting, which should not cause any problems.

  • How can I get the seeds a server certificate or a certificate using mozilla.cfg exception

I work with mozilla.cfg and I would create a security certificate exception. I have the following functional

    UNIQUE Set authentication settings

    Pref ("browser.fixup.domainwhitelist.fake.com", "true");

However, there is a server jump during the UNIQUE authentication process which is forcing me to make an exception of the certificate security.

Bottom line, I'm looking for a way to preconfigure this exception using the mozilla.cfg method

  • Give root certificates and the 'green list' which sites they are allowed to check?

More a feature than anything request: I think it would be a good idea to have a whitelist optional for which sites a certificate root is allowed to check. A common situation would be a company cert root - if the browser can be configured to doesn't have to be a CA for the sites within this company users (employees in this case) could be sure that the company was not spying on their browsing to other sites, while allowing them to create and revoke certificates for their own at will. (But I remember at least a story recently where that would have allowed the general public when a CA started allowing the fake sites.)

Back to Firefox developers and requests can be made here:
