  • Sharing of files between a Windows XP PC and a Windows 7 PC via a network home

I have files on an old PC running Windows XP, I want to get on my new PC running Windows 7. I tried to access the files on the network in the same way that I've always had with XP, making them available on the network through the properties of the folder.

I made the files available for sharing on the XP computer, but can't find a way to access it from the new Windows 7 PC.

With the desired files PC running Windows XP
PC to recover files is running Windows 7
The XP PC is connected through a Linksys router wireless
The W7 PC is connected to the same router via Ethernet cable

Simple, do the same for the two working groups. Windows key + break under computer. Kill the password sharing in windows 7. Right of the mouse on the LAN in Win7 network open / change advances. Select turn off password sharing. Make sure discovery tour of the network and file sharing are on.

Create a folder in XP share it. Simple file tick share if its judgment (my computer / tools / folder options / view). . Create a folder in Win 7 right of the mouse / properties / sharing / share. Select everyone up to the top, change the background of read/write. You will save mucking around with passwords, or by entering the ips in to get into the other folder. To facilitate things if you want to copy the installation files to etc. Go to start/run in win7, type shell: sendto, right of the mouse / new shortcut. Go to the network folder add it. It will appear under the send on the shortcut menu. Do the same with XP, except type sendto under start/run. And do the same thing

If you do not have any other pc Win7 kill homegroup. Computer, highlight the residential group / right mouse / change homegroup settings / leave homegroup

  • Upgrade XP to Windows 7 Professional and Vista upgrade to Windows 7 family of versions for a family network.

We have two computers on a home network: I had built in 2008 with Windows XP and then I bought a HP on shelf with Vista for my children.  I connected them together; the XP pc is connected to the ADSL and the Vista pc gets access to the internet through the network as well as access to a wireless network laser printer.  I'm looking to upgrade to Windows 7.  I would like my own upgrade to Windows 7 Professional for my XP programs, etc. are always usable/accessible.  What I need to upgrade the computer Vista business, too, or can I just switch to the Home version, while keeping our network?

You will need to buy two separate editions of Windows 7. You'll have to do a custom installation of Windows XP without worrying, there is no way to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7.

According to the edition of Windows Vista you have, you can do an upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7.

    The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

    3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.

    The upgrade of Windows Vista?

When important changes to your computer, for example an upgrade, it is always recommended that you back up your system before installing a new version of Windows. In your case, you can upgrade to Windows 7 depending on the edition and the architecture of Windows Vista, you have installed. If you are running a 32-bit version of Vista and upgrade to a 64-bit (Windows 7 edition) version, you'll have a pure make install, it is the opposite case.

If you are using Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium consumer editions, you can only upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. In addition, you can make downgrades, which means, if you are running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition now, you cannot downgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. You perform logical upgrades:

Windows Vista Home Basic > Windows 7 Home Basic, Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium > Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Professional, enterprise or ultimate edition

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Enterprise

Windows Vista Ultimate > Windows 7 Ultimate.

  • Try to configure Windows XP Pro and Vista Home Premium to connect wireless to a field internal.

Hello. I recently graduated from a COMPUTER course that was very intense, but I don't think that it covered all the basics for me quite challenge the MCSA exams. In order for me to do, I bought a bunch of MS Press books covering ISA Server, Server 2003, Exchange, etc. My journey made us buy copies of Server 2003 and XP Professional, so that we can continue to practice at home.

One of the things I wanted to do has been implemented a network in my home, using the software I have (not about to try 2008, although I think that one of the books I ordered comes with a version of a test - but it is in a game for the MSITP exams).

This is how I currently have my network configuration. Currently, everything is wireless. I have 1 spare computer that I use as DC with active driectory.

Currently I have a router D-Link DIR 655 (located in the basement) which acts as a gateway to the internet server and dhcp on my network and WPA2-PSK encryption use.

I have a laptop with Windows XP Pro top (that I gave to my wife - old laptop I have baught strictly for the course, I took), and it is completely wireless. It is located on the ground floor.

I have an office (located on the 2nd floor) using Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It's wireless.

There is also a network of printers laser color next to the router in the basement, connected via an ethernet cable.

On the main floor is also my Wii, which connects wireless.

So, as you can see, it's a mixture of differnet devices connected through my router.  I have the Wii or the printer to connect to the domain specifically. The printer must be accessible to computers on the domain, but the wii should just be able to connect to the internet via the router.

The spare box I have kicking around, I put 2003 on server and install active directory. I will also implement via this network storage server. I would like to put up to control the accounts of users of my wife and myself and that it uses roaming profiles.

This works very well when it connects directly through, but how to configure something like this works wirelessly? I read something on another forum in which is setting up a wireless bootstrap, to authenticate against a Radius Server, and then log in to the domain. However I don't have the money to spend to get ISA Server.  The server will be basically be there just to provide roaming profiles and to store things out of our systems, incase we have problems with one of our computers. We could set up something for our own internal e-mail in the future, but since we live in the same House, it seems rather useless at the moment lol maybe set something in the future to let the other note or purchase or to do list. But for now, just want to configure what initially appears to be a single domain with roaming profiles.

Everyone has tried to do that? Connection of the wireless networks in a field, with a router provides the address and gateway?

  • Windows Live Mail and Vista 32 OS

    Greetings,

I've been using Windows Mail with excellent results. My ISP changed their mail servers and I can not get Windows Mail to manage two accounts by using rules. I would like to know if Windows Live Mail 2011 will work on my desktop which is running Vista 32 with SP2?

If so, what is my best method to get all the email and settings transferred from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail. I'm trying to avoid having to re-download all old messages stored on the server of my ISP.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • On Windows 7 upgrade from vista 64 bit stops after that it says the settings and files of collection

I am tring to install Windows 7 upgrade from vista 64-bit.  I'm to the point where it says collect files and settings, and it stops running, and then in the details it shows 3 files located in the c: users\my name\appdata\local\temp\WER followed by numbers.tmp, then version, appcompat or mdmp. (example: wer5090.tmp.version.txt)  He said that these files are the reason. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

1 disable any security software before attempting to upgrade

    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)

    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.

    4. check your hard disk for errors:

    Click Start

Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD

    Click on "Run as Administrator"

At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r

When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    User account control permission

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

Also run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/Upgrade-Advisor.aspx

If the upgrade continues to fail, you might want to consider doing a custom installation:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

Drive C: 179 GB is almost complete and the recovery drive D; is also half full.  If all of these data are still there is anyway to recover the program files?

Check the root of the system drive where Windows 7 is installed. There should be a folder called Windows.old likely to always have your personal files. Of course, you need to reinstall all your applications and drivers:

  • Refreshing (?) a Windows 7 install and issues related other sorta...

First, asker time question... Please forgive the wall of text.

I upgraded my desktop computer HP from Vista to Windows 7 using their free upgrade method too complicated who was to get several DVDs of them, creating about 5 more on my side and invest about 5 hours along the real upgrade.  It was mid-2009 and things were going well. 5 years later, things are starting to get bogged down... I have problems with the start time, the response of the system, etc., and I wanted to re - install Windows 7 to update the system, but if I do it the way HP designed, I need to recover the system of their integrated score that will rebuild Vista, THEN go through the routine upgrade of 5 + DVD and I do not want.

Can I buy Windows 7 Home Premium, updating my system and use the original key of the Vista software as a number of upgrade?  Do I need to purchase a Version upgrade?  I have two laptops and three desktop computers, all computers equipped with legit Windows 7 installed, but no original Win7 doesn't install DVD... could I use one DVD to refresh all my systems?  If this is not the case, should I have options other than buying a bunch of Win7 installs?

    Thanks in advance...

You cannot use a Windows Vista a product key to activate Windows 7. The product key to activate Windows 7 is unique to this version. Do you not have a product key with your free upgrade in 2009? Or the free upgrade to Windows 7 received as recovery media instead?

If this is the case, then its probably best to buy a license of Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade and do a custom install on your current installation disk.

Because Windows 7 is in limited stock because Microsoft ended sales in October 2013, this created demand due to its rarity. This means the retail boxed copies request a bonus, while the OEM System Builder copies remain affordable.

    Upgrade version (detail):

    OEM System Builder version:

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system
