File Permissions question

Is it possible to set permissions on a folder to allow a user (not the admin of computers) to write files and all other users to read or copy them to another drive?

I have a problem where some users are dragging the files in the folder, then lose them!  I need to make the file read-only, but still allow a user to add files.

Thank you

Adam

By default, users in the same group have read and access has allowed everyone to search other directories. If you want another user to have specific reading/writing/research access to a specific folder in your home directory, you must apply Access Control Lists that give this specific user of these privileges.

In its simplest form, you use the Finder to select and get info on the target folder. At the bottom of the GET Info Panel is a section sharing and permissions. You need to unlock the Panel until you can apply the changes. You can add the specific user name that you want to grant read and write permissions on this specific issue and if for some reason, the staff and everyone else are not read-only, you can change it here too. If you want these permissions apply to the material in the attached file, then visit the gear at the bottom of the Control Panel icon. Click on the padlock closed when finished. Test.

  • Strange file permissions

I'm working on the COMPUTER audits.  We ran Somarsoft DumpACL on a Windows 2003 server to view file permissions.

In the output, we noticed something special.  For some files, rather than see R, X or ALL of the permissions, we see dx0001056 (see below)
    What does dx0001056 mean?

    D:\IIS_root\AAA\,SERVER02\

    Any idea would be appreciated.

  • Problem with fixing XP files permissions

    Hi all

I am having some problems with the permissions of the files on my Windows XP laptop. The crux of the problem is that I can't copy/move/delete some files even if ownership and file permissions are all correctly. Even within a directory, some files I can move/copy, but others I can't. The files in question are my Outlook PST files which I am trying to back up manually.

I tried to play with file ownership and permissions. Used the account admin machine, all to nothing does not. There is no file open file handles, I can not simply copy them. It's all very strange and hope someone can suggest how I might be able to gain control of these files again.

    Thank you.

    Mark

Please describe your problem in detail. Include the full text of any error messages you see. Tell us the brand and model of the PC and what version of XP (Home, Pro, or MCE) runs as well as the Service Pack level.

Outlook PST files can only be saved when Outlook is closed.

Also, it is unlikely, but do a right click on the PST file, select properties from the context menu, and uncheck the 'Read only' if it is checked. Click OK

    Hope this helps

  • Change multiple file permissions?

I updated from XP PC to a laptop running Windows 7. I'm trying to transfer files from my XP on my laptop. The files have access denied because of incorrect file permissions. I know how to change the permissions individually but as I have a few files of hundreds of change that is going to be a long tedious operation unless I change permissions in multiple files. IS THIS POSSIBLE?

Yes, it will change the permissions of all files, more subfolders and
/their/ content, when it is done properly. You choose Advanced >
Change the permissions to the "replace all child object permissions.
with permissions inheritable from this object"option?

  • How to fix the file permissions?

    Hi all

    EBS R12.1.3

    RHEL5 & 6

I met a weird/events behavior to our backup files.

    I am cloning our R12.1.3 OEL5.3 to a new server with RHEL6.5

I run preclone then I did a cold backup of the entire folder for applications and database levels which are as follows:

    / U01/applmgr/prod (whole level apps)

    / U01/Oracle/prod (db level)

I stop applications to databases. I have compressed backup files using:

    Tar - zcvf applmgr.tar.gz/u01/applmgr/PROD

    Tar - zcvf oracler.tar.gz/u01/oracle/PROD

Then I copy on another new server for CLONING.

Then I run the corresponding command to unpack the tar.

To my surprise, all folders and files under it have all rwxrwxrwx

The following data folder are an example:

    [root@erp2 apps_st] # cd data.

    [data root@erp2] # ls - lrt

  • File permissions for the UNIX file created by ODI

    Hello

I use ODI to extract data from a table and put it in a file delimited on a UNIX machine.  Everything works with the file, the file goes to the right place, the correct layout and data looks good, but when ODI creates the file it gives the read permission for the owner and group, but not the user(-rw-r---).  I need the user to be able to read the file so that the GIS or other users can pick it up (- rw - r - r-). ODI sets file permissions and if so can I change them?

I use ODI 11.1.1.7.0 and IKM SQL to add files.

    Thank you

You can always add a step to your package for the question chmod command to change the creation of positions of file permissions so that it is readable by all users

  • What are 'File Permissions '?

My beginner reading: http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/Fix-Spod-How-To-Fix-A-Spinning-Pinwheel --Death.htm says that file permissions are automatically repaired now with El Captain but that before that perhaps they should be "repaired" after updates or the spinning Rainbow wheel can appear.  I get the spinning wheel on entry just after put the password in and clicking on (but it's fast and not annoying) but worrying to see nonetheless.

What are the file permissions?  Are they connected to the wheel that turns that I see at the time of the process, as it happens, or do I not to worry it is appearing briefly and then in endangered?

Overwhelmed - please help with explanation so that I can learn more about my Mac.  Thank you for your time and your consideration.

File permissions control which parts of the file system access is the best explanation I can find. They can cause a spinning beachball, but they are not the only thing that can cause that.

  • I'm trying to migrate data from a server to a new one with the file permissions of the files of users and records lost.

    original title: robocopy

I'm trying to migrate data from a server to a new one with the file permissions of the files of users and records lost. So far, that's what I did, I used \\server1\share \\server2\share/sec /mir robocopy and robocopy \\server1\share \\serve2\share/e/s /copyall. It seams like they copied all files with the permissions of the user for the files, but not files. For example, if a user makes a folder with the files in the folder appear them have permissions appropriate for them but not the root folder or subfolders, they did... How can I fix this and what is the difference between / s /mir and/e/s /copyall?

  • How can I change the file permissions that are made in the other operating system on the same machine?

    Hi all

I installed 2 operating in two different drives (drive C & D) systems in the same laptop.
Recently I have re-installed the Windows7 operating system on drive C. And formatted the D drive. Now, I have a BONE in my system.
Now the problem is, I can't open some video files (the names are colored in green) who says that you have no permissions.
I found that "Encrypt contents to secure data" is enabled in advanced of this specific file properties.
When I go to turn off this option, it says that you have no permissions. It shows the name of the owner as a previous user of the operating system
in the other disk drive D (that I already formatted)
How can I get out of this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

If encryption is not involved (if you do not encrypt the files originally) and is just a file permissions problem - simply take possession of the files first and then change the permissions when your account has full permissions on the files/folders that you need.

If you do not backup your encryption certificate and key encryption is involved, then the data are almost lost to you.
