File sharing and replication, some questions

Hi guys.

First of all, my sistem

A vsphere cluster 5.1, with 7 guest esxi with a shared storage (HDS).

So I have a few machines virtual replication to an external site, with a cluster of vsphere 5.1 with 3 esxi host. But a bad broadband bandwidth beetween the two sites.

There is one machine virtual replication with several activities of memory, and I will not reproduce his memory.

I read this article and says that isolated swap file in a different data store and not replicate this data store.

http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/Techpaper/srm5-perf.PDF

(see fig 19).

but I have a few questions:

-Store data file must be shared or a different data store peer esxi host?

-Vmotion host is not affected?

-Same datastore must exist in both groups?

-Impact on other virtual machines?

Thank you

Hello

Under normal circumstances, you should store the swap files in the same data store than the other files of the virtual machine. However, you need to prevent replication of swap files to avoid excessive consumption of band network bandwidth. In addition, certain providers of storage is recommended that you do not replicate files to Exchange. Only to prevent the replication of swap files if it is absolutely necessary.

If you use a replicated data store to Exchange files, you must create a data store replicated for all recovery sites and clusters protected both the protégé. The replicated data store should be visible to all the hosts in the cluster, or vMotion will not work.

It does not affect the other VM.

  • Domain network cannot activate file sharing and print?

    Hi all

I get an error message when you try to share a folder "an error has occurred. trying to share folderxxx Incorrect function ". After research I see that file and printer sharing is not enabled.

I went to control panel | Network and sharing Center. Advanced settings - sharing on the "Discovery of the network" and "File and printer sharing" I select "turn on...» "for one or the other and save changes - but neither is saved! Ebb in advanced sharing settings both return to "Turn off"... "State. (I am local and domain admin).

Windows 7 computer is joined to a domain and the firewall settings are defined mainly through Group Policy, although local settings are allowed (merged).

I would add that I can access the admin shares (c$, d$) on the computer without problem on the network so advanced in this regard firewall settings are ok.

At a loss as to why file and printer sharing will not allow?  Thank you.

I found what was wrong or the problem.

During the process of deployment of our new systems Windows 7 wipe us the rules of default outgoing firewall who do seem to not be a problem because outbound connections have been set by default to "allow". But we have learned that only when outbound rules for file sharing and printer available (enabled or not) can share news can be created.

After the creation of the joint ownership, these outbound rules can be removed and sharing still works fine to keep rules to incoming traffic.  I guess this is normal, but it is not quite make sense to me why the outbound rules are explicitly required for files and printers share when you create a share... but that is what has worked for us.

  • Windows 7; Windows firewall prevents the discovery network, files and printers, sharing, public folder sharing and streaming media

Windows Home Premium SP1, completely up to date.  Windows Firewall is enabled.

Try to keep the file sharing and printers on a home network.  Try changing the settings on the control panel; All Control Panel items: Center network and sharing; Advanced sharing settings.

    When I try to change the option buttons for sharing, then click on save changes at the bottom of the page, the screen jumps to the network and sharing Center.  Object entering the settings advanced, no parameters have been recorded.   The comoputer restarting does not help.  I checked that the following services are running and set to automatic according to the http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/cant-turn-on-network-discovery-and-media-streaming/98654e71-4bff-4dd3-acec-ffc3524d44a4;

I'm uncomfortable with Miss having a firewall work on my computer.  How to configure my Win 7 machine windows firewall to allow communications with my homegroup?  I tried to restore the default values.  This did not allow the communication.  I tried to find the homegroup settings in the advanced settings of the windows firewall.  No luck there.

What should I do to configure my windows firewall to allow network discovery and file sharing of printers and media streaming and sharing?

    Hi stephanie,.

Thanks for joining us out on Microsoft Community Forums.

Looks like the Windows firewall prevents the discovery network, files and printers, sharing, public sharing of files and streaming media. We will analyze and identify the cause of the problem.

You have a third-party antivirus installed on the computer program?

    Method 1:

    To turn on network discovery

    1. Open advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click on change settings for sharing advanced.
    2. click on the chevron to expand the current network profile.
    3. click turn on network discovery and then click on save changes. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide
    confirmation.

The article below explains all about the network discovery:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/enable-or-disable-network-discovery

If any of these responses not solve the issue, let us then run the sfc scan and check if any file system is corrupt. I also recommend to perform a clean boot in order to find the root cause of the problem.

    Method 2:

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.

    b. type the following command and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command. analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

More information on SFC scan found in this document:

  • Impossible to activate permanent "network discovery and file sharing" in advanced sharing without turning windows firewall at the wide service.

    Environment:

I have a workgroup Windows 8 pro PC with all updates from Windows update. The PC is connected via WiFi (home) to a router (the same thing happens if I am connected to the router directly via RJ45). It's my "private network (NAT). I have the Windows Firewall is enabled in its default configuration. I use "Windows Defender" as my protection\firewall of virus software.  "When I go to: change options for sharing different network profiles" under advanced sharing options. I try to turn on file sharing and network discovery in the private profile. It shows that "the private sector is the current profile. The radio button lights. However, when I go to the file Explorer / network I got the message ' network discovery and file sharing are turned off. " The network computers and devices are not visible. Click here to change... " I click to change, however when I click to change it keeps returning and gives me the same message. I then go in ""network control and Internet\Network and sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings " and the option buttons in private profile for the network discovery and file sharing are turned off."

If I turn off the Windows Firewall. Everything works. I need to open a hole in the windows firewall for 2 applications was discovered and network file sharing. I opened rather not just blindly ports. However, if this is the only solution, what ports do I need open.

    Hi all

I have exactly the same problem.  (and I'm not the only one. - There are many!) The problem does not lie with the Windows Firewall. If I turn it off, discovery network and file sharing is turned on-tour he turn it back on and its all disabled subsequently and the rest of the way.  I've been round and round the forums of the world looking for a solution but still find a definitive answer. • Why only download family movies shared and not stream

I use the family sharing and for some reason that my children need to download a movie, I buy to watch while I always listened to?

    Hi bjohnson33,

I understand that you have a question about the sharing of family and purchased movies streaming.  Family sharing is used to share the iTunes purchases by downloading the content.  For streaming content, you should always use home sharing.  Here's how it works:

Use home sharing to share iTunes content with other devices

Home sharing lets you share and stream content from the iTunes library on your computer to other computers and Apple TV iOS devices.

Use the home sharing on your Mac or PC

You can use Home sharing with up to five computers on your home network. Follow these steps to use home sharing:

    1. Open iTunes on your computer.
    2. Sign in with your Apple and the password. Use the same Apple ID to each computer or device on your network to share at home.
    3. Go to file > home sharing.
    4. Turn on home sharing.

Use the home sharing on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

    1. Go to settings > music or settings > videos.
    2. Scroll to home sharing.
    3. Press Sign in.
    4. Then, enter your Apple ID and password. Use the same Apple ID to each computer or device on your network to share at home.

You can now use home sharing on your iOS device:

    • To take advantage of shared videos, open the video application, touch Shared and select a library.
    • To take advantage of the shared music on your iPhone or iPod touch through home sharing, open the music application and tap my music > library. For iPad, type just my music. In the screen that appears, click on the category near the middle of the screen. Tap on Home Sharing, and choose a shared library to connect to.

Use the home sharing on your Apple TV

    1. On your Apple TV (4th generation), go to settings > accounts > home sharing. On earlier models of the Apple TV, go to settings > computers.
    2. Turn on turn on home sharing.
    3. Then, enter your Apple ID and password. Use the same Apple ID to each computer or device on your network to share at home.

    See you soon!
