I have a large number of dublicate files and directories in 'C:\Documents and Settings\Jim\' and 'C:\Users\Jim\' after the upgrade of Windows Vistat Ultimate 64 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Why?

The documents are really in the second folder, Documents and Settings is
    a junction point.

In Vista and Windows 7, "Documents and Settings" is not a folder.
Vista/Win7 uses a different file structure than XP/don't. Those who don't know
the names of folders you can be used for, such as "My Documents", "Documents &.
Settings', etc. are not folders in Vista/Win7. They are the points of junction,
and are used for legacy programs that have been written to use the XP file
    structure.
They will redirect the programs to use the Vista/Win7 equivalents records.
If you keep hidden protected operating system files, you will not see them.

    In Vista/Win7...

  • Modern slow mail app or crashes if you have a large number of files

I have a large amount of mail and upgraded to the new mail app, when I open the mail or switch folders that the app gets real slow. How can I fix?

After the update to your e-mail to 318 version application, you may have noticed that when you open mail or change records/account app slows down or crashes. This happens if you have a large number of files, usually around 200 to 300.

Note: to find out what version you have:

    1. open the Mail application.

    2. drag the right edge of the screen, or move your mouse to the upper right.

    3. Select settings and click on to words. (The version number appears.)

    Workaround

The only way to avoid this problem is to reduce the number of files.

Once you reduce the number of records to a more acceptable level, the Mail app will work normally.

I have a large collection of big slideshows in iPhoto, created over the years with captions from the titles of the photos. How can I keep these slide shows subtitled in Photos?

You can't keep slideshows as captioned photos.  Slide shows get migrated in the form of albums for the Group of photos is maintained.  But Photos don't have the ability to add descriptions to the slide show so that they would have to be manually added to each slide automatically.

However, a possible solution would be to export every slide show in iPhoto as a Quicktime movie file. Which will keep the titles and descriptions on each slide.  The resulting QT files can be imported into the iPhoto library before migration or photo library after.

  • I have a large address book (1,700). I want to send an email to everyone except 50

I have a large address book (1,700). I want to send an email to everyone except 50 - and these 50 are in their own list. Y at - it a tip/trick to remove them?

    Thank you
    Patrick

Well, I think that the answer to your question is 'no '.

But I wonder how you intend to send to the recipients of 1700. Thunderbird will not let you send a message to as many addresses in one fell swoop, and I suspect that your email provider might be objected too.

I suggest that consider you a merge and merge, which would create discreet messages from 1700, but then your main problem will receive relevant addresses of 1700 (minus 50) in a proper file.

And I must say that the merge module and direct mail to Thunderbird is somewhat fragile, and I would direct you instead to free agency and its built in fusion facilities, or a service like Mailchimp.

  • Error: The destination of the file is too large

    Original title: to transfer large

I can not transfer a file because it indicates the destination of the file is too large, though even I have enough space on my USB drive

How is your USB drive formatted (FAT-32 or NTFS).  If FAT - 32 there is a 4 GB limit on the size of the file it will transfer so no matter the amount of space you have on the USB key.  If you want to move this large files on the USB drive, you must convert the USB stick to NTFS.  Here's how: http://techblissonline.com/fat32-to-ntfs-conversion-in-windows-xp-or-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

  • My photos have a large green checkmark on them

My photos have a large green checkmark on them with looking at them. Do not print or cause other problems. What is it?

    [Original title: pictures]

Are the checkmarks on the icons or the complete picture.

If on the icons, it is probably related to your backup software, maybe Norton, indicating the status of the backup of the file with the check mark.

  • The folders have the lock symbol. Don't want locks

I try to find the .nk2 file in outlook to restore my lists of fill incremented when I start typing a name in the address of an outlook email box.  the problem is that some files have a lock on them like documents and settings symbol.  I keep having to go into advanced for each file to give me permission., I am the only user and a member of the Administrators group.  I'm not all the locks on all the issues.  How can I remove this annoyance overall?

    Hello Zuluflight,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community!

The reason that you run in the files with locks on them is because these folders are junction points. A junction point is a folder that allows programs designed for systems older operating work correctly with the new layout of the folder again.

For example: Documents and Settings has been changed to users

Documents and settings and users exist in the form of records and Documents and Settings is a junction pointing to the users folder folder.

Think that the points of junction is a redirector.

Unfortunately, you would run problem with programs that are not written to the new file system, so it is recommended not to remove records of junction point.

Hope that helps, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • "The file is too large for the destination file system? How to move this file to another folder with this error?

Working with Windows 7. I'm trying to move files to other readers. . What is the work around whan "" the file is too large for the destination file system"is the error messages. Can it be fixed so you can move the files

Either there is not enough space on the destination or the size of the file is larger than the destination system can accept, for example FAT32 cannot have a file size more than 4 GB.

  • 8 Windows media player says"files are too large to fit on a disk" when I try to burn a movie

When I try to burn my files utorrent movies, some of them have been able to burn, others would show a red x next to the titles that says that the file is too large to fit on a disc. Is it possible to solve this problem, do the smaller files, etc?

    Hi Rick,

    1. What is the format of the file you want to burn?

    2. What is the size of the movie file?

    3. What is the storage capacity of the disk?

    4. you try to burn on a CD or a DVD?

You cannot take more than 2 hours on a DVD FORMAT VIDEO unless you get a DVD double layer. If you burn a DATA DVD, make sure it's less than 4.3 GB for a single layer DVD and 8.5 GB for a double layer DVD. You can compress files, but the resolution will be less.

You can also use your search engine preferred to find software or applications to compress large files.

MTS file appears too large in my view window, I need to convert this file and what I really don't want to lose any quality of the video, I'm not interested in sound.

Or can I adjust the aspect ratio first to account for this? It would be better?

  • ID does not correctly place files HAVE

In the latest versions of InDesign and Illustrator is the following:

For example, I create a circle (or an elliptical approximation of the same height and width, in the jargon of Adobe) that is 50 "x 50".

I place this circle shaped in an ID file and resize it to 10%, while it measures 5 "x 5" since I am an elevation of the view to scale a wall to 1/10 full size. I use the x, the percentage of scale is at the top of the window for this.

I decided that the circle is too large, so I change the file HAVE original 50 in. x 50 in. 40 "x 40"

I update the InDesign file, 5 "x 5" circle shape does not change, but it must now measure 4 "x 4"

I try a couple of times, but the image placed in the layout ID never changes size. There are 5 "x 5"

I finally understood what was going on. When I first passed the file, I went to the scale X percentage and scale Y percentage in the InfoBar at the top. I initially put 10.0% to get the image of 50 in. x 50 in. up to 5 "x 5". When I changed the size of the original Illustrator at 40 "x 40 ', I looked and realized that ID had changed the setting of x % of 10% and y10 to x12.5% and y12.5%, that has kept the image placed in the ID file at 5'." Outrageous! No matter what I have to change the size of the file linked, he has remained... to 5 "x 5" in the file ID X, applied stupidly and foolishly change by itself. It is a HUGE problem for anyone who needs to design great graphics in Illustrator and put together them on a scale 'wall' in InDesign for printing or presentation. It didn't happen in the previous versions of this software. I hope it's something that can be disabled. I can't imagine a situation where this would be beneficial. Hope it makes sense. This sounds more complicated than it is. In short, the fields should never updated on their own.

    Thank you

You have been bitten by a particular preference setting that can be changed.

Open preferences > file handling > links. The default setting is "preserve Image Dimensions when reissue of links.

That's why he keeps the dimensions of the same file.

If you turn off this preference, it will scale when updating the link.

Different workflows have different needs. Your workflow requires scaling work when the artwork changes of dimensions.

  • Save files HAVE with file create PDF Compatible lit

I have a large part of the files recorded without PDF compatibility turned on and they preview correctly in my dam system. I tried to create a save action slot, but it does not work. Does anyone know of a script that will do a save as with PDF compatibility checked on and replace the existing file?

jscottCMD wrote: script that will do a save as with PDF compatibility checked on and replace the existing file?

    What you want is "pdfCompatible":

Scripting JavaScript PDF reference (around pages 80 to 85 dependent on the version #)

    IllustratorSaveOptions

    Properties of IllustratorSaveOptions

pdfCompatible boolean If true, the file is saved as a PDF compatible file. Default: true

You can find different scripts to do whatever you want around the forum, here are a few examples:

Hello! How can I convert a PDF file that is larger than 100 MB?

    Hi larissat90944947,

As you have discovered, there is a 100 MB file size limit for files to download for ExportPDF online service. Acrobat has such a limitation, however. If you want, you can start a free 30 day trial of Acrobat. You can download the trial of http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • I can't export my files (raw, jpg, tiff, any). always a notification "the path of the exported file cannot contain special symbol '='. ' is displayed. Why? I don't know what is the path to the file. at least, file name is not special symbol.

The path of the file is the full description where the file is located in the language of the operating system, including drive, directory and file name and extension.

In the above example, the file path combines the two circled items-"E:\Webpix" and "BleedingHeart.JPG", the path to the file would be "E:\Webpix\BleedingHeart.JPG".  If you do not have an equal sign in the name of the file, you must have one in the folder or the equivalent.
