  I does no change, I didn't download a document from my email (from a sender of confidence). I tried to start in safe mode, just, it restarts and goes back to the corrupted checksum display... Last known good config was the same result! The only error message is one that is in the title of this post, not others. Another detail, that I forgot to add is that it does not get insofar as a logo windows before it fails, just the toshiba start screen, then either passes the corrupt message checksum or a blue screen and restarts before I can read the text on the blue screen.   Thanks, I was able to make a creation of HP recovery disk, which I hope is what will be needed for the installation. my D drive is a failure, will pull on it, install a 500 GB on my cdrive, and put the old drive to 120 GB of drive c as the d drive.

  So I'm at the end of my rope with this one... it lasts for months, and I keep revisitng every two weeks to try and fix that and every time to be completely frustrated.  I found this forum tonight, so here goes...

  We downloaded a few games on the HP Games Web site.  We download them and everything works fine.  Then, we will open the games and this pop up error message:
  "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.  You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

  These games used to run fine, and I have no idea why they now have problems.  We have a Vista operating system, 1 account who is the administrator, the Parental control is disabled (or if we believe).

  If anyone can please help it would be much appreciated!  We have a monthly membership to this site of game and continue to accumulate credits, but may not use it.  It makes us crazy!

  Thank you for posting.  It seems that the program is no longer on your computer.  This can happen if the game files are deleted, but the game itself has not been uninstalled correctly.  I recommend you to download the game again to a location on your computer where you can easily find and install it.  This should fix the problem.

". ». Following the advice given nothing less than useful.

  I can easily play these files with RealPlayer or VLC so I don't think it's a driver problem, and it wasn't a corruption right after installing the other players. WMP seems to work OK when playing music or AVI. And there is no harm to hear a sound (wav or midi) in Windows for various system events. Have already uninstalled/reinstalled WMP without result.

  I have since determeined the problem comes from an updated codec package I installed a few weeks ago. These codecs were from Shark007 which I believe is a Microsoft MVP. Use the codecs from this site for a number of years without any problems so I did not initially suspect it was the source of the problem. I uninstalled the codec pack and installed K-light package and everything seems to be Ok now. Now, I'll be in contact with the members of this forum.
