  Try to reset the Photoshop preferences:

  I reloaded my Photoshop CS3 after a hard drive crash and the authorization code provided after my last accident a year ago does not work. Adobe support claims to be unable to help and ask in the forum. • Photoshop CS3 Extended features do not work

  I just got a copy of Photoshop CS3 Extended.  I use Windows 7 and it installed fine.  However, I have noticed that many functions (i.e. Gallery of filters) appear in light gray and cannot be activated.  All standard plugins are visible but also cannot be triggered.  I am not yet familiar with Photoshop and I don't know if I'm missing something here.  Any help is very appreciated.

  Make sure you are in Image-> Mode-> RGB color and Image-> Mode-> 8 Bits/channel that not all filters work in all modes.

  If you are looking for a filter that has a dialog box and more than one complete example of recommended, I would look at the example to dissolve. Hidden is not designed to produce a menu item.

  I use a Macbook Pro 2015 and have the last El Capitan and all updates for all the CC apps that I use Photoshop, Illustrator and animating.

  Try file > open recent > clear recent files list. This should allow your list of recent files to repopulate normally.
