  You can do a search via the AAU and specify the xCollectionID (the ID of the folder that the content is in) or the Pb application directly. The table is Docmeta and the xcollectionid of the column. You can do a query SELECT COUNT where xcollectionID = the id of the folder you are interested in.

  I start with the second question:

  bytes_read = ReadLine (file_handle, line_buffer, maximum_bytes);

  You need to spend to develop w/Firebug for Firefox. Using Firebug you can click "inspect" and move the mouse over the page to find the item you want. Once you click on the element you can see all the styles are applied, including the exact colors.
