Firefox opens all my previous tabs on a new session, when it is not needed

Hello

I use Firefox 32.0.3 Windows 8.1.

In tools-> Options-> general-> startup, I installed Firefox to open my homepage when it starts. However, he insists on all tabs my previous logon at startup.

In case this was due to Firefox never close properly, I put browser.sessionrestore.resume_from_crash to false, makes no difference.

One of you very well educated chaps have ideas?

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that affects the pref browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once true value.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

  • Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)

Your list of details of the system shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.

The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: open with) If you do not create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

Note that Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them are .html, .ini and .js, .txt, so you can see only file name without the file extension.
You can see the type of actual file (file extension) in the properties of the file via the context menu in Windows Explorer.

Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

See basic troubleshooting: a new profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "tools > Modules > Extensions & PluginsĀ»

If this new profile works then you can transfer files from the old profile to the new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • Open all links and bookmarks in a new tab

Today, I've updated to 23.0 FF and Tab Mix Plus is more fully functional, and I had to turn it off. I'm trying to reproduce its functions to the subject: config.

    I have two questions:

    1. How can I get all the bookmarks to open in a new tab on the far right? Bookmarks are open on top of the current tab and that I can't respect.

    2. How can I get all links to open in a new tab? No new windows, no button right, without overwriting the current tab... just that all links open in a new tab on the far right?

    Thank you.

Without extension you can just Middle-click on a link with the wheel on the mouse to open the link in a new tab.

You can try the last TMP 0.4.1.1 dev version, see channel of development at the bottom of the page.

    Help?

the machine is a HP Elitebook 8540w. Windows 7 64-bit.

You have configured Firefox to use the Adobe Acrobat plugin? It seems that he may be missing or disabled, because it does not appear in your "more details of the system" (next to your message). You can see the page modules. Either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. Then on the right, look for Adobe Acrobat. It may be down on a gray background.

If you don't have it: Make sure that this isn't your favorite here player:

"3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options > Applications

You can type or paste pdf in the search box at the top of the list after loading to filter.

If you have it, but it cannot be activated using 'Always enable' or "Ask to activate": You may need to update. I recommend using the help inside your product Adobe (Reader or Acrobat) menu to check the updates.

  • Why Mozilla Firefox opens at a previous session?

Whenever I run Mozilla Firefox, a session for a little over a week ago opens. Usually it opens on my home page. Now, he opens with 8 tabs. They are: My Yahoo, my Gmail mail, 4 other Google sites and a site of Amazon.
How can I put a stop to this?
Thank you to each and every one with a suggestion.

It is possible that there is a problem with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js file [2] and files possible sessionstore-# .js [3] with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Delete sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and tab groups and opened and closed the tabs (back) to get lost, so you will need to create them again (take note or bookmarks).

    Help

    Hi martyn2lewis,

You should look at this article on this specific issue and Preferences not savedarticle. It should give you all the information you need!

    If this does not work:

    1. Enter about: config in the address bar
    2. Click I'll be careful, I promise you if prompted
    3. In the filter field, type Startup
    4. Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    5. Delete the text string, and then click OK
    6. Close Firefox and reopen the window to check that it worked.

    Hope this helps!

  • Firefox does not account settings to open the home page to start and open rather the previous tabs

Opening of Firefox, the browser displays my previous session, despite my selection 'display the homepage' or 'show white screen' on the opening.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder (a detailed list of the system shows that you have) which defines the pref browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once to true.

(I noticed that the mozillaZine knowledge base is down at the time of this posting)

The user.js file will be present if you or a other software created this file and normally will not present.
The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can remove the user.js file if you do not create this file yourself.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them .html and .ini and .js and .txt, and you can see only a file name without file extension.
You can check the file extension (type) in the file properties in Windows Explorer via the context menu.

  • I just upgraded to 10 Firefox and all my pinned tabs app disappeared. Not sure how to get them back. This did not go with any previous update.

At using Firefox 9 before upgrade.
Note that I was using Tab Utilities 1.1.2 which is now disabled because it is not compatible with Firefox 10 (but not really on utility tabbed app anyway).

I just installed a preview of Tab Utilities version that works with firefox (Tab Utilities 1.2pre17) 10. After the reboot, all my original app tabs are back!

Problem was Firefox hanging in the Task Manager - task once I stop the task, I re-run Firefox and had no issue. A big thank you to all who tried to help.
