Foglight - JVM parameters

All,

Get a few errors of Foglight indicating my memory is low. I went into the foglight.conf and added these files, started the FMS and it won't start now.

No idea where I was wrong?

Foglight.VM.option0 = "-Xms6144m".

Foglight.VM.option1 = "-Xmx6144m".

Place a semicolon at the end of each line

Server.VM.option0 = "-Xms512m"

Server.VM.option1 = "-Xmx512m".

Note: I pulled my examples of server.config version 5.6.2.

  • How is collected JVM parameters (CPU, memory, etc...)

I read a lot of documents, and I'm still a little confused about how it works. How are the CPU, memory, etc. of the measurements taken on the JAVA virtual machine. Is there on the thresholds of the box set up and if so where can I find it. I don't know if I'm wrong or not, but on a system Linux, OS-Linux_System agent collect this data?

JVM parameters are collected by the Java or JMX agents using JMX, both agents use this JVM mechanism to collect processor memory and thread information. Monitoring of the OS is usually collected by agents of the BONE (os-linux_system is inherited, Infrastructure Officer is the new mechanisms). The threasholds are set out of the box like registry variables (you can see their names included in the rules).

  • 11 ColdFusion JVM parameters

    Hello

I wonder if my JVM on Coldfusion 11 settings are correct. My actual settings are:

    -server - XX : MaxMetaspaceSize = 192 m - XX : + UseParallelGC - Xbatch-Dcoldfusion.home={application.home}-Djava.security.egd=/dev/urandom-Duser.language=en-Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}-Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/lib-Dorg.apache.coyote.USE_CUSTOM_STATUS_MSG_IN_HEADER=true-Dcoldfusion.jsafe.defaultalgo=FIPS186Random-Dorg.eclipse.jetty.util.log.class=org.eclipse.jetty.util.log.JavaUtilLog

Minimum JVM heap size is 4096 MB and maximum JVM heap size is 6144 MB.

My server has 2 vCPU and 8 GB of RAM.

Yesterday, my Coldfusion server crashes all of a sudden so I ask you if there is a problem in my current configuration.

    Thanks to you all.

    Hello

JVM settings seem correct. You have changed the settings to default installation for the heap size JVM Minimum is 4096 MB and maximum JVM heap size.

You may want to consider this value:-XX: MaxMetaspaceSize = 192 m

On 64-bit, it is fair to say small. With available memory you who could wear 512 m. It may be a good

recommended to configure a setting as well as maximum EG:

    -XX: MetaspaceSize = 312 m - XX: MaxMetaspaceSize = 512 m

CF requires a restart to apply this change.

It is good to know there are other areas of memory that are present by default in Java 8 64-bit when well even not mentioned in the JVM settings. FOR EXAMPLE:

    -XX: ReservedCodeCacheSize = 240 m

    -XX: CompressedClassSpaceSize = 1 g

  • Crash of recurring JVM associated with JHA. RasterAccessor?

We are having intermittent problems with our JVM crashing and CF restart on an almost daily basis. We run CF 8,0,1,195765 in an environment Windows with JDK 1.6.0_04. The discharge is below. Whenever this happens, the 'current' compiletask is the same (as shown below). Our JVM parameters are also as follows with 1 GB of space segment of memory allocated:

    -Server - Dsun.io.useCanonCaches = false - XX: MaxPermSize = 192 m - XX: PermSize = 128 m - XX: NewSize = 256 m - XX: + UseConcMarkSweepGC - XX: + DisableExplicitGC - XX: SurvivorRatio = 4 - XX: + UseParNewGC - XX: + HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError-Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/... /-Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/... / lib

I don't know if the upgrade of our JDK will help solve this problem, but I think that there is little code somewhere that calls the method java javax.media.jai.RasterAccessor and this is the root of this problem. I don't know what code can call this Java method, but I thought that it could be linked to CFDocument, CFImage. However, our use of these tags is pretty minimal.

    1. update a newer JDK. Make sure you have at least 1.6u10 (which fixed an important bug), but we are on 1.6u16.

    2. check all the places where you use cfimage. The error in this directory points. If it isn't cfimage, cfdcument check or anything else that needs to recode a picture.

3 disable the hotspot compiler as Leigh wrote.

  • 10 ColdFusion service does not start

We have ColdFusion10 (update 17) Standard Edition is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server. It has been installed and runs fine for a few years, but in the last few weeks we had problems starting the service. After the restart, he didn't start automatically or via a .bat file that checks to make sure that he threw every morning. It would also be downtime from the Server Manager console. We could start from the command line using net start 'SERVER of APPLICATIONS COLDFUSION 10', but now, it won't work that way either.

    image1.jpg

Newspapers do not seem to show something unusual that I can tell. The only way that we could start is to run cfstart.bat in the cfusion\bin directory. Internet sites are available, but the service does not work (at least with regard to monitoring windows are).

This error is displayed in the server event log when we try to start the service:

    image2.jpg

It is possible that we interviewed on that updates Microsoft .NET Framework would probably penetrated it. It was the only update installed before it was broken this time. The service took a while to start in the past, but never as long as it times out and we could not begin in Server Manager. And we've never seen him not at all start several times now. To be clear, it does not EVERY time, even if you try 20 times in a row.

We plan to rebuild the server, but I would really just difficult this one. Who knows if this could happen again. Thanks for any comments.

    Hello Tracy,.

That should fix remove CF10, install CF10, apply to entire customization process you may need as sources of data, JVM parameters, property or tomcat server.xml file. Maybe some customization may be given by

keep a copy of the files of CF10\cfusion\lib\ neo.

My apologize to Charlie, I repeated something he suggested (albeit with a typo he mistakes versa hs). It was a long weekend for me and I have not read the good post.

    Cordially, Carl.

  • HFM/Workspace Navigation Hang Ups

    Hello Experts,

I have faced a problem in my environment where users will be intermittnelty be hung within the workspace while accessing the request of HFM. Many times, it seems that when you double-click on a grid, run a consolidation, navigate between screents, HFM hang up and the user will be forced to close out of internet Explorer and reopen to temporarily solve the problem. Has anyone seen else this question or someone has any advice on how to navigate the workspace to make smoother and more manageable of HFM?

    Thank you for your help

    HFM/Workspace Version: 11.1.2.2

    IE: 8

HFM Application Server Specs: 8 processors, 24 GB of RAM

HFM JVM parameters: 8 GB of RAM allocated

    SQL Server 2008 R2

I have studied the BONES and the database layer and were not able to itentify a bottleneck.

We have made some changes in the file httpd.conf by tuning Oracle HFM guide. It made a big difference in the stability of HFM for our users.

    People,

    This issue has been resolved,

    Details of the problem:

RAM 512 MB only, use JVM parameters

"" Arguments of memory in JAVA: -Xms512m-Xmx512m ".

If WL struck to use more memory for the start and the stop MedRecSvr2, 3 (managed server)

Please read the following steps to correct,

    1. open Oracle VM Virtual box

    2. go to settings and select the system option (make sure that all OS turns off).

    3. go in card mother in this window select Base memory previously is changed to 1920 MB (1.875 GB) 512 MB.

    4. click on Ok.

Then the allocated RAM will be more, for Weblogic doesn't get knocked because of insufficient RAM memory.

  • Use of OC main high swap Thread

    Hi all!
First of all, I hope this is the right forum to post, because my problem is with Weblogic + Oracle Service Bus using Jrockit
    (WLS 10.3.6 + OSB 11.1.1.6 + JRocikt R28.2.4 + 6.2 CentOs 64-bit)

Then I had this problem when the system often becomes very slow for awhile. Top/iotop using, I found that some threads use high IO and swap, specifically, this:

    * "(OC Main Thread)" id = 3 idx = 0xc tid = 35994 prio = 5 alive, natively, demon * "

And I used regular breaks GC - around 10 sec and sometimes the 30secs

Here are additional JVM parameters for starting the server:
    -Xms3072m-Xmx3072m-Xns128m - Xgc: pausetime - Xpausetarget = 250 ms - osb - Xmanagement:ssl = false, authenticate = false = Djava.rmi.server.hostname, autodiscovery = true, port = 7099, rmiserver.port = 7099 - XX: + UseCallProfiling

Suggestions and ideas would be appreciated

    Hello

    You can change these options.

    -Xns128m - Xgc: pausetime - Xpausetarget = 250 ms

You set the new size of only 128 m 3 GB.

I suggest you keep at least 1.25 GB and see the difference.

    Kind regards
    Kal

I think that if your client application tries to call an API specific 'cluster', for example, CahceFactory.ensureCluster (), it will start its own cluster.

However, if your client application get only a cache remtoe reference, it shoudn't start is own cluster.

  • Foglight performance tuning - Cache Code JVM

Just curious about this setting. Currently, our new FMS are amazing. But I noticed this option in the field guide. No indication on that? The docs a bit thin. When I use it? What is the default if I don't specify? How to monitor the need to increase this?

    Performance Tuning field Guide

To optimize the execution of code in larger environments, you can increase the size of the

    JVM code cache.

To increase the size of the JVM code cache:

    1 open /config/foglight.config.

    2. change the line foglight.vm.option0 as follows:

    Foglight.VM.option0 = '-XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize = 128 m "

    3. restart the management server.

The default setting is different based on the platform of the JVM.

It is default to 1024 m on 64-bit systems or 32 m on most systems except Solaris where it could be 48 m.

It sets the size used by the cache code during compilation JIT compiler. If this cache is small you will receive errors like this in the log file

Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: CodeCache is full. Compiler has been disabled. Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Try increasing the code cache size using -XXReservedCodeCacheSize=

And it allows to disable the JIT compiler, which will result in reduced performance because all dynamic logic as rules and other groovy scripts will no longer be dealt with by the JIT.

The default settings will work in most cases, but a big FMS with many objects and rules may require a greater reserve of cache to keep the happy JIT compiler.

  • Specifications for a new installation of Foglight a GREAT environment vSphere

    Hello all-

New Foglight for Enterprise Virtualization and we try to implement a test to see how it performs in an environment of our size.

We have worked with the representatives of Dell/Quest/Foglight but so far have not been able to get very far in the correctly "tweaking" for usable performance. so I'm tender hand to everyone here for some thoughts.

We currently have a large enough vCenter with over 7400 VMs, 20 + data centers, hosts 450ish, across the country.  It's a 5.1Update1 environment and the vCenter and related services (VC, SQL, VUM, SSO, WebClient) are all Windows 2008R2 machines virtual on a cluster dedicated to ESXi 2 nodes and all virtual machines to vSphere have all the power in the world to run it.  vSphere itself works well.

For our Foglight install (the last FfVE v7) consistes of 3 virtual machines.  A FMS server, a SQL Server (2008R2 - dedicated not shared SQL DBs w / any other) and an Agent of vSphere server.  We threw all kinds of resources to this as well - but performance is so bad that it is simply not usable and we have not even present all 7 k + VMs... It is only arount k 5 of them.

    All are Windows 2008R2-

VSphere VM Agent has been configured for 4 vCPUs and 12 GB of RAM.  It is on the same network segment and same physical host vCenter so it can work on the same vSwitch and did not have excessive network traffic between the two.  The disk is SAN IBM XIV with 8 GB HBAS.

The SQL VM is 6 vCPUs and 12 GB of RAM.  Another host, network different segmant and different SAN storage IBM XIV.  This SQL Server computer runs ONLY the DB FL.  The DB is locked to 8 GB of RAM, original disc it size 250 GB and there are a lot of drive.  The vDisk is THICK put into service and latency in the standards.

The FMS server is on a host dedicated - no other guests running on it (for good troubleshooting purposes has not made difference).  He has all the army all processors to himself, has 32 GB of RAM, the virtual machine's memory is all locked/reserved.

For all three computers virtual, the vCPUs are not competing, time LOANS are low, there is no memory sharing, balooning, or Exchange and the disks are thick with low latency.

The FMV of the Agent from the server vSphere is set to 8GB min/max.

The FMS server JVM is located at 12 GB min/max.

So you see, we gave er everthing she has, but it is VERY VERY VERY SLOW.  To the point, it is completely unusable.

As a comparison - VMware vCenter Operations manager is a VAPP 2 - VM, has access to the same vSphere with the same objects and it works perfectly fine and smooth.

My gut tells me there is something not right in the JVM, but I don't know enough.

    Help, please!

If you have time next week, we can discuss?  I've worked with a lot of large environments and I would like to see the details of what's going on before I comment in too much detail to lead you down a path or another.

  • What is the difference between Foglight JavaEE and Foglight JMX monitoring?

    Hello

I have a plan to monitor the 6.1.0.17 WebSphere Application Server (32 bit) and 7.0.0.5 (64-bit)

But I understand not all Foglight for JavaEE and Foglight for JMX.

Foglight for JavaEE or Foglight for JMX is able to monitor WebSphere?

What is the difference between Foglight JavaEE and Foglight JMX monitoring?

    Thanks in advance

    Jeans

Just to add to the excellent answers already posted.

We have 2 agents which allows you to monitor Java:

    1. a JavaEE agent that runs inside the JAVA virtual machine and the information of both JMX and instrumentation.

This Agent will give you JMX information like information of JVM (use of the bunch, son etc.), of the Application and server availability information and other information of JMX/PMI (connections pools, pools of ejb, servlets, jsp, JCA and more).

Java EE & # 039agent also gives you information of the instrumentation - RFA count and response time, exceptional output and timeout information, distribution of queries (App/DB, component technology, server, application failure), object tracking, transaction flow and stransactional between servers and data sources) and ask traces (the ability to see the trees of the RFA at the method level to know where things are slow/stuck).

2 JMX agent is running outside the JVM but can run on the same computer or on a remote computer, this agent requires access active, JMX. This agent gives you information JVM, availability server/applications, as well as some data as the application server published using JMX (pools of connections, JCA, EJB, servlets, etc.). The JMX agent also gives you the ability to see a list of the mbeans, get the data they expose (javaEE agent gets only a predefined list (same list that is used as a template for the application servers in the JMX agent)).

    Hope this helps

  • Foglight 4 integration Issos

    Hi experts:

I know that foglight 4 was support. In my case, there is a large customer used Foglight 4 for a long time. So can not install 5 Foglight immediately.

But unfortunately, the customer will have integration of foglight 4 to another system.

We need to the docs on API or Foglight 4 docs.

DB information managed (oacle DB2 SQL Server) and managed Middleware (weblogic, websphere MQ) is necessary.

    Such as:

    DB:

used tablespace, Redo log space, CMS and so on

    Middleware:

Wating JVM, JMS, JDBC, and so on

We would like to know how integrating these Foglight 4 imforation.

    Where can I find documentation?

    Thank you very much!

You can pull down the documentation foglight 4 from the site of Dell support as a starting point.

  • Foglight can monitor the WebSphere Process Server?

You have experience in the monitoring of IBM products like WebSphere Process Server WebSphere Application Server-based? What about Portal Server?

    Thank you.

Technically the Java agent monitors the Websphere server and whatever it is current running on a Websphere server support.

We have customers using the agent Java for trade and Portal Server, I have not personally tested with the bailiff, but if it's a version supported Websphere server it should work.

A couple of things I've seen with Logon/trade:

    1. in some cases, there is a need to play with the settings of the instrumentation to exclude classes called many be instrumented.

2 transformation of URL is necessary because the URLS have parameters embedded in them, which makes the demand model are growing very fast.

An example of transformation of URLS can be found here

    https://support.software.Dell.com/Foglight/KB/62707

    Hope this helps

  • Missing parameters for a specified time

I'm going to pull metrics of specific servers for a specified period of time, and these data are not available.  What could be the cause of these data are available?

    Hello Raul

Can you please clarify what you mean by "trying to shoot metrics of specific servers for a specified period of time"?  You try to get Foglight today to retrieve the parameters of servers on September 27 between 13:13 and 13:56?  Most (all?) agents have had a limit of one hour for the collection of historical data from servers.
