Foglight - Webmonitor question

All,

How can I scrape the specific words with an agent webmonitor? Currently I use scripts Nagios that wget down a page and then grep the file for the terms I'm looking for. Is a similar feature exists somewhere else, I'm missing (we have not FXM)?

Thank you

As you probably guessed, WebMonitor does not validate the content of the pages web target. WebMonitor measure the availability and the response time of these pages.

You can use Foglight Transaction recorder to validate the content of the page, while RDFS can do much more this simple condition requires.

You can also call your an Agent of Script Foglight Nagios script as described in Custom Script Agent 1: run a Monitoring Script to push existing data in Foglight.

Kind regards

    People of greetings,

My apologies if these are silly questions, but I don't have much time to meet certain requirements being pushed down from management. Yes, questions...

-It must be monitor if mycoolsite.local redirects to someuncoolsite.local, can the agent WebMonitor handle this? If so, is there a specific measure for that? We owe this to for reporting purposes.

-The rule of Page_Availability trigger if the HTTP response code is anything but 200?

There is a requirement more that I could throw well there, too. We also generate a checksum of the page and monitor for any changes. I think a custom script agent is the only way to do this but am open to other possible suggestions...

    Thank you!

Because redirection returns a 302 code, we use the value of State of WebMonitor to satisfy both the first two requirements. I have created an agent of custom script to control the content of the page. Thanks to me.

  • Foglight Service Question

    All,

I am building a series of services for our environments dev (1-75).

    (1) each envionment runs on ONE ESX server.

    (2) ESX server can change at any time and the vMotioned envionment in new leaves etc.

    (3) some ESX servers could be utility servers, too, this may change at any time without warning

So, when I create my service called say. "Envionment001", it must be by querying the model determine what envionment001 use ESX is currently.

A virtual machine called "browse_apache_env001" is a good key to determine which ESX host an envionment currently resides.

So I'm expecting the repatriated to look at soemthing

    (contains 'browse_apache_env001' ESXserver.virtuamachines

No idea how I could produce this result? Clearly, I must repeat this 75 x.ne for each service.

When you build the dynamicManagedComponent, you select the ESX host and then use something like virtualMachines.name = "browse_apache_env001", you can script the creation of all these if the names are fairly standard, or you already have the list vs creating them manually.

  • Agnet to check the JVM

    Hello

    on Foglight 5.6.4

What cartridge and Agent to check the JVM on monitored hosts?

    Thank you.

    Guy,

What do you mean by "verify"?

Foglight Java agent can follow a JVM running, if it is not in the supported application servers list, you can try X agent.

Foglight JMX agent can monitor JMX metrics on a JAVA virtual machine running, you can monitor it remote or you can use the JMX discovery for a local agent.

Foglight AppMonitor can follow an ongoing process, simply specify the name of the process and it will show if the JVM is running (if it is not alert you) and will show the memory/CPU it uses.

Foglight WebMonitor can check if a web page running on the JAVA virtual machine is available.

Foglight LogFilter may fall to the logfile JVMs and alert on errors and exceptions.

I guess that depends on what you mean by "check".

    David,

When you have deployed WebMonitor, did specify it URL to monitor? You will reach those URLS of the machine where the agent WebMonitor? Are there errors in the log files?

Also, can you post a snapshot of the file list of agent Web Server Properties screen?

    Thank you

P.S. in the case where you have not worked with before agent, the configuration is specified in this article http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/w/admins-wiki/5646.monitoring-application-availability-using-foglight-utility-agents

  • Foglight - question by e-mail

    All,

I have 10 Sun Solaris., 5 of them need email team1 when there are questions. The other 5 have to goto team2.

Is there an easy way to filter emails without duplicating all the rules and change the e-mail settings manually?

    5.582

    Daniel,

Assuming that e-mails are sent to a registry variable as a sysadmin, you can set a data value on the registry sysadmin by server variable so that the sysadmin registry variable returns an e-mail address of teams for each of the servers. Look at variables of register in edit mode and the bottom of the screen, you will see where you can add data values.

Sending emails by services containing hosts is also an option

  • Example rule for WebMonitor on Foglight 5

    Hello dear members,

I'm looking for an example rule for WebMonitor agent.

    Kind regards

    David

Could you not make a copy of the default rule and then select only the DEADLY condition and set the behavior through the tab behavior, such as the alarm goes off only if three consecutive samples fail?  Looks like that fits your use case.

  • Foglight - selector WebMonitoring agent agent problem

As you can see on the image, I have a LARGE number of available agent. I was testing to see how I could get on a flgam put t two concerts.

When I was pushing the flgam to its limits I deleted the agent screen agents. Waited an hour, and they mounted again. So I ran the script of delete-object-fade and checked back 5 minutes later and they were gone from host > Agents in data manager. Yet, they are still in the selector of the agent.

I waited an hour and always there. I reboot the SGF always there. So I finally deleted the entire agentmanager since data manager, and they are still there. No idea what I'm doing wrong here?

You can also check the Foglight4Model I see the stats page and also under this model Server

  • WebMonitor Agent question

Being dense myself typical, sorry. I test the WebMonitor agent and I get an alert on Server_Availability. When I enter the URL in a browser, I am able to access the page.  I get the same result when you use Get header or get Page.  I just need help to understand how it works. (had to clean up page)  Thank you

The agent does not 'wget' but rather a native call to fetch the page, but it is likely that you are on the right track; the page request can be blocked by a firewall rule.

You can monitor a public web page (e.g. http://www.google.com) of this Windows Server? You can monitor the URL target of an agent WebMonitor deployed on another (for example Linux) machine?

    Kind regards

  • Foglight - Oracle ASM Question

    Hey guys

Our DBAs are complaining that Foglight is alarming

Disk/dev/rdsk/c10t60060E80100AF6700530276F00000002d0s6/GROUP_FLASH_0001 ASM ASM Group 4 is used at 100%.

When break us the discs themselves are found plenty of space.

More while we are on the topic is a way to drill down to the individual disk/lun datagroup ASM? I was invited to watch the individual disk IO.

I came across this nuance in my test of the product.  Apparently, there's a difference between an ASM disk and and the ASM DiskGroup.  In my organization, the ASM disks are always 100% allocated in ASM starts.  It is the DiskGroup who see the DBA.  We have actually disabled ASM disk completely and only with the ASM DiskGroup followed rule.

  • Foglight Tempalte

I just deployed the Foglight model and it looks like it uses an obsolete operating system. I just happened to download that bad or are they really that behind?

    Hello

Looks like you're running the free version of Foglight for virtualization Standard (FVS). The Enterprise Edition unit is based in a newer OS (OpenSUSE 13).

Here's the official statement from Dell on the support of FCS.

"Dell is committed to supporting Foglight for Standard Edition (vKernel) keeping the current existing product functionality with regard to the support of the virtualization hypervisor, and corrects the defects.  Our long-term strategy is to offer a new, more robust and scalable platform for Standard Edition, which will be built on the award-winning Foglight platform.   We have already picked popular Standard Edition features such as optimizer and Analyzer of change and brought to the Foglight platform with even more features.  In addition, we will send soon an increased ability of integrated planning functionality on the core Standard Edition / vKernel feature.   When the main Standard edition feature is fully available on the Foglight platform, Dell will propose a plan of migration to next generation Standard Edition. »

I hope that answers your question,

  • Foglight 8 headaches!

    Hello

I have a number of 'issues' or 'configuration mistakes' in my environment. If someone is able to help, it would be great. Let me first start by saying that I have worked with Dell Support for about a month now and nothing is useful that out yet.

I'm setting this to our NAP. It is running vCenter 5.5, 9 guests, about 35 VM (will increase quickly).

When I got up first Foglight, I tried changing vCPU, RAM, and hard drive. They all worked except the hard drive has failed. I have changed since the permissions of vCenter and would try again, but the optimizer doesn't display my test VM as needing to be resized (expanded or collapsed).

Question 1: of the VM who have either 99% full of hard drives or completely empty on allocated disks do NOT appear in the optimizer. Even though I see them in the tab alarms and I get emails on this subject.

Number 2: For the life of me, I can't understand how the credentials work in this application with regard to the mounting of a virtual machine via the workflow or the optimizer. All tasks constantly fail because "no credentials assigned." I've created a repository secure with our service account.

Question 3: I constantly receive an email about the database: "rule catalyst database space free audit pulled with a critical severity based on the limit specified in the DBSMon.CriticalFreeTablespaceSize registry variable.» The remaining database size is 30010246.00 bytes. ». Is it possible to change "bytes" to something a little bigger?

Those are my main concerns at the moment, I'm still exploring what I may or may not do. If there is a useful documentation, I'd like to see it. I couldn't find Jack!

    Thank you!

    Hi Cory,.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems setting up WVE.  I'll try to direct you to the documentation you need, but if you have an open service request, it is the best way to join our team.

About question 1, have you checked the storage requirements on eDocs resizing? There is a list of the supported operating systems and below is a list of common requirements. Please check that the virtual machine meets all the:

    http://eDOCS.quest.com/vFoglight/800/files/FoglightForResourceOptimization_Guide.PDF

Question 2: Identifying information for the workflow and optimizer are stored in different locations.

For Optimizer: Follow the instructions in the PDF used number #1 to configure the credentials of the optimizer (search for the credentials tab).

For cartridge Automation, follow these instructions: http://edocs.quest.com/vfoglight/800/files/FoglightForVMwarevCenterActionPack_5.6.3.2_ReleaseNotes_Revision1.html tire

Before using this cartridge, you must specify the access information for a VMware host and all virtual machines that you want to manage.

    1. Open the VMware-> Configuration of Automation dashboard.
    2. In the list, select the host on which you want to work with.
    3. Click set credentials.
    4. Specify the user name and password for the selected host.

For the #3 question, please refer to David's response. (Thanks David).

    I hope this helps.

    Gaston.
