  • How to find hidden using the Finder folders

Really frustrating!  I want Finder to display the hidden files and folders.  I tried everything I could find in this forum and others to do so.  That's what I tried (many times):

    Tip #1:

Finder > go hold the option key

If you need to continuously show

Open your Finder > go > home folder and then order J to see the display options

    Then, restart Finder

    Suggestion #2:

Show hidden files Mac OS X El Capitan:

    1. Click the "Finder" icon in the dock of your Mac.
    2. Open a Terminal. Terminal is a utility that allows access to the operating system OS X El Capitan. It can be opened in one of two ways:
    3. Select 'Applications' on the left side, click "Utilities" and then double-click "Terminal."
    4. Open the launch of OS X El Capitan area. Click on the "Utilities" folder Then, double-click "Terminal."
    5. Enter the following in the Terminal window, and then press "Enter": "defaults write QLEnableXRayFolders AppleShowAllFiles YES."
    6. Exit the Terminal program. This can be done by selecting "Quit Terminal" in the Terminal.
    7. Restart the Finder. Your new setting will take effect after you restart the finder. To do this, hold down the 'Alt' key and click or with two fingers on the Finder icon. Select "raise".

None of them work for me.  :-(  I use Macbook Air and El Capitan Version 10.11.4

    Do not include the quotes.

  • Moving files in the folder of Documents using the Finder

I have a lot of individual files in the Documents folder in OS X El Capitan. I made files in the Documents folder, I would like to move these files. Now, looking at the Documents folder in the Finder, it shows all the files in the Documents folder, sorted by type, whether or not I've moved into my new files.

I don't want this 'virtual' representation - I want the files to be moved, and I see them again, unless I click on the new folder, so I can sort them.

I'm sorry if I'm not this clear, but if you could help I would appreciate it.

Looks like you set an Arrangement on the folder when you may have been trying to sort out the window.

Arrange by groups the files and folders on the criteria you choose, as type. It will put them all within a section of the window depending on the type of item it is.

Look at the View Menu, arrange by and set it to None. If it's not, try to post a screenshot of what you see.

  • Navigation pane completely screwed after Parent folder library moved to the desktop by mistake

Please someone help me! I was at the own temporary file last night and somehow in the process I need to have done drag the folder of libraries under the desk on the Navigation pane. So I had Office appear under Favorites and then as one of the bureau which had libraries in it as well as Documents, music, photos and videos. I found a suggestion of support that says right click on libraries and then "restore default". However, this does not work. I then found another suggestion of support under another question posted and he said to go to your username and to restore by default and now ALL my files are appearing under the second office. (First Office is always appear under Favorites.) When I watch the office itself there is no shortcut to libraries. I just like my tree organized as the default Windows Navigation pane. I am petrified to do more on mine because I don't want to make one delete a folder and lose anything! On top of that, I have Sync of sugar which is on my old laptop and my other I'm talking about now. I had taken two laptops for "Geek Squad" to have everything transferred on another and explained that I had a storage cloud sync program. They said they knew all about who and how to get all the data on the new laptop. I told them that I didn't need to use the cable to transfer mobile to mobile. HOWEVER, when I picked up the laptops, they HAD used the cable and all the folders have been duplicated! I didn't know how to get rid of duplicates (not knowing which was the record 'original' and who was the double, so I left it alone.) At least I knew how to find my stuff! I wish I could post a screenshot of what it looks like now, but I can't understand how to do it anymore. I press prt sc to copy it to the Clipboard and then try to paste here, but it does not work. Sorry this is so long and hiking but I wanted to try to describe what happened. I'm desperate! Any help is appreciated!

Well good to remove the nine, just right-click and use 'delete' or 'delete' (varies according to the place where the icon).  Without prejudice to the because you can always pick up something from the trash if you accidentally delete.

What I would say is just first TreeViewImageSet.Custom to folder Explorer all values by default in order to boot from a fresh install by default.  To do this:

    1. Click on organize at the top left of the folder, choose folder and Search Options
    2. Click 'Restore defaults' on all 3 tabs, and then click OK.
  • can not find the folder under brushes in the finder

Hi everyone im trying to clean my presets in Photoshop CS5, I recently saved the brushes that I created in photoshop and I clicked on the new folder button at the bottom to create a new folder named "My brushes" and I saved the brushes, which was ideal because he has created a line of separation between my brushes and photoshops built in brushes to keep things neat and make searching for my brushes less complicated, because before he confused them in alphabetical order with the brushes included in the drop down menu in the control panel shapes.

But now, I can not find this folder "My brushes" or its contents any where except in photoshop, so I can't rename the folder, delete it or backup my brushes someone know where photoshop is hiding? any help greatly appreciated

If the library folder in your user name (the' home ', no library folder on the top level of your system disk) contains any Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Presets/brushes?

  • Folder in the Finder has no arrow click on contents of the folder see the

I just change the contents of a folder in the Finder.  When I finished, I see that the folder icon has no arrow on his left, on which you click to display the contents of the folder without having to open the folder.  It is also true for all folders in the folder in question.

How to restore the arrow click on content enable the folder to display in the Finder?

Change the ' sort by ' votes to zero, i.e.

Finder > view > sort by > no

I don't know if this behaviour is a bug or a feature, but it intrigues many users.

  • Best way to copy a file in the Finder

I am really struggling with the Mac interface, after having been a user of PC/Windows for decades.  I can copy/move files in Windows Explorer with ease.  On my MacBook, this simple task seems impossible.  My goal is to copy a file from one location to a specific folder.

In the Finder, I select the file I want to copy and select 'Copy' from the Edit menu.  I then navigate to the folder that I want to place the file, highlight this folder and select "Paste" from the Edit menu.  He went to put in the parent directory of the file I selected, not the folder selected.  Tried to do this by dragging a file (which is really hard when using the touchpad).  When I fall on the folder I want, once again, place it in the parent folder.  As I was doing this on a network (WD Cloud NAS) drive, I gave up and a PC to move the files where I wanted them.

This is ridiculous.  I thought that Macs were supposed to be easy to use.  I'm almost at the point of return my MacBook to the Apple store.

Hold down the Option key while you drag and drop.

  • Folder is hidden by default in a USB key

Hi, I don't have any experience for the problem I have currently here. I recently inserted a USB stick containing photos and for some reason, the folder is hidden, and I wasn't able to view the folder until I changed the options to show hidden folders. I want to know is WHY this is the case meaning how did the folder gets hidden in the first place? Is this a risk to my PC?  Is there a way to make this normal folder?

    Hi Tsubasa,

Sorry to know that you are facing this problem. I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:

    1. Did you use your USB drive on any other computer to transfer files?
    2. The name of the hidden folder is different from the previous photo folder?
    3. What anti-virus program do you use?
    4. You get the error message?

According to the description of the problem, it seems that the pen drive may be infected by a virus, or you might have copied the hidden folder that is visible from another computer.

USB is an external data storage device and commonly used to move or copy files between computers, so connect to different computers make them more vulnerable to being infected by viruses.

The virus can change the attributes of your pen drive files and make the data inaccessible to you.

I suggest you to run the Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if it helps:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Warning: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

I hope this helps. If you need help with Windows, let us know and will be happy to help you.

  • Where the photos are normally stored on a Mac computer? In the folder images in the Finder on my Mac, I see a file called "Library.photoslibrary Photos" i.e. 28.52 GB but I also have about 160 other image files in the same folder. But in pictures,.

Where the photos are normally stored on a Mac computer? In the folder images in the Finder on my Mac, I have a file named "Library.photoslibrary Photos" i.e. 28.52 gb and another folder called 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary' i.e. 4.95 GB, but then I have also on the 160 other photo and video files in the same folder. But in my Photos app, it says that I have 6 260 'elements '.

The pictures that you have imported into the photo library are, by default, stored inside the package (not file) "Library.photoslibrary Photos" in your pictures folder. The 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary' package would contain photos that have been stored in your library, iPhoto at the time of the migration.

The other files in the pictures folder are that: other files. Also, they can be in libraries if you imported and has not deleted the copies lying around in the images.

  • MAC - impossible to find "Pictures folder" / Iphoto photo library and open the Iphoto Application at all

    Hi all

I have Apple devices for a few years now, but I still find it difficult to understand the system. I want to put an end to that, so I finally registered.

I try to look at the tutorials and read the forums, but I can't find concrete answers to my situation.

First of all, in my application of Photos of my MacBook, I remove hundreds of photos and videos, then I go to recently deleted screen and I delete them all permanently.

However my disk space is the same before under 'Storage' summary when I check "to about this Mac". I restarted the Mac and waited for days, the space does not release upward.

Then I read in a forum and found the following answer:

Your photos has not deleted because they still exist in iPhoto or Aperture, whatever you use. Photos saves disk space by creating links to the already existing files in iPhoto/Aperture, rather than duplicate. This means that if you want to delete a file, you must make sure that it has deleted all.

If you can live without ever using iPhoto/Aperture once again, go to your Pictures folder and delete iPhoto Library and Aperture Library . In this way, the only copies of your photos will be those photos, and removing free space on your computer.

    The questions are the following:

    (1) after reading this, I decided to look it up in my pictures folder in the Finder to locate the iPhoto library, however it is not there on the left side, after reading the forums, I still cannot locate the iPhoto library anywhere.

    (2) in case I finally find my iPhoto library and delete it, are the images that I see now in the deleted Application Photos?

    (3) another curiosity, when I try to open IPHOTO, the following message appears:

And then after trying the 'search App Store':

I did not need to actually use my iPhoto or App Photos in particular, I do not yet fully understand the difference. I want to just my photos to be stored in ONE place and when I take hours to remove them permanently, get my rear space and do not learn, they still exist elsewhere (iPhoto library).

Also please help me understand what am I supposed to do with the iPhoto application now that gives me these error messages.

    Thank you very much!

    (1) after reading this, I decided to look it up in my pictures folder in the Finder to locate the iPhoto library, however it is not there on the left side, after reading the forums, I still cannot locate the iPhoto library anywhere.

The images folder must be manually added to the sidebar.

    Open the Finder preferences:

    • Click anywhere on the empty office to bring the Finder to the front, then go to the Finder menu in the main menu bar, open "Preferences".
Click the tab of the sidebar and add all the items to the sidebar, you want to see.

Now, open the images in the sidebar folder in the Finder.  Is your photo library in iPhoto there?

Then drag it to an external drive to make a backup copy, then delete it and empty the trash.  Accidentally delete the photo library.

    (2) in case I finally find my iPhoto library and delete it, are the images that I see now in the deleted Application Photos?

No, the photos in your library of Photos and the iPhoto library are separate files.  It was created by hard links.

Hard links are new files, which use the same entry in the table. They store the contents in blocks of same on the disks, so the entries are not duplicated, but if you remove one of the linked files, the others will remain. The storage will be released, when the last linked file has been deleted.

See this link: Six colors: the (hard) link between iPhoto and photo

  • Library/files in the folder on the external drive

The question is, when you import media to a folder on an external hard drive in a library on the same drive, which doubles the amount of space on the drive that is based on the size of the original files, so I choose the copy Option in the import window vs the leave in Place Option? I know, it should be obvious, don't tear me a new, I'm just checking?

What kind of file is it? It is a structure of camera file? If so, you will need to copy, and the media are double. If it's just a folder from the Finder with multimedia files in it, the media splits using hard links. It appears in both places, but only use space in a folder.

  • Help me set the permission for the folder/Library/Preferenses

I installed Adobe InDesign CC, but when the program starts. It says: "error. Cannot launch Adobe InDesign that you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Be sure that you have appropriate permissions and restart Adobe InDesign". I found a reason here https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1314214?start=0 & tstart = 0 but I can not add the Admin and showing all users and permission change for all users and admin in read/write. System says that I have enough rights to do this. I am the only user of my MacBook Pro late 2013. I have only one user - admin. My OS is El Capitan 10.11.4. Help please.

Root library is locked by the integrity of the system of Protection (SIP).

However, this isn't the record say these instructions change. You are supposed to change the permissions on your user Library/Preferences, it's what the ~ / means. If you follow the steps precisely, you will reach your user preferences folder. You can get to your library by holding down the Option key and select library from the menu go to the Finder.

Adobe has not yet understood how to properly encode their software for OS X permissions. I don't know why other developers may seem to do, but Adobe cannot.

Change the permissions on the files of Adobe should be all that is necessary. Change the permissions on ~/Library/Permissions and each subfolder is horribly inappropriate.

I would try just add additional access to the Adobe folders located in each specified locations.

  • In the Finder, the library is not appear in menu go.

I am struggling with the Finder on my Macbook Pro (13-inch, mid-2012) running OS X El Capitan 10.11.3. I'll try to find ways of models and other folders that are supposed to be under Macintosh HD/users/Rebecca/library, but when I try to navigate to users/Rebecca, the library does not appear. I try to find the menu go to the Finder, and it does not appear. If I Tape Library in the search bar and to hover on the options, it shows it in the menu reach. Then I try to find without looking, and he's gone. How can I get the library display where it should appear?

Press the Option key when the Go menu is open. Otherwise, choose go to folder and provide ~/Library as the path.
