For Dimension 4600 AGP graphics card

Hi all

I recently acquired an old Dimension 4600. I'll use it on the side for general use for example browsing the internet, email, etc. Nothing heavy. Its current specifications are;

Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.8GHz 512 Kb 533FSB

4 GB RAM PC3200

NVIDIA Geforce 5200 128 MB AGP

Windows XP Professional 32-bit (can install Win 7)

I would go on a little adventure upgrade that I find it rewarding and it gives me experience in hardware components.

For now, I can't play videos from YouTube above 480 p as a bottleneck by the graphics card. I think I can get my hands on a Nvidia Geforce 7950GT 512 MB AGP for about £20. This is the fastest Nvidia card for the AGP slot.

Is - this work on a 4600 and allow the best YouTube video playback? The P4 would then become the bottleneck? I think I will also replace the power supply. A model of 400w would suffice?

In addition, an SSD on the old interface SATA 1.5 would be an improvement on the current IDE HDD? Of course, I won't sink money in old material but a SSD can be put in any latest system.

Sorry for all the questions!

Andrew

Do not forget that at the end of the era of the AGP, ATI made the fastest AGP cards.  I have a Dimension 4550 discount.  I made a point to get the fastest AGP card ever made for her - an ATI Radeon HD 3850 512 MB AGP.  It is a huge map, IIRC and barely enter the 4550.  Unfortunately, I don't remember how various time graphics cards would process the video.  But the 3850 AGP was the best, there wasn't, at least for the games.  IIRC, same card ATI X 1950 Pro and X 1650 Pro were faster than the fastest Nvidia cards.  (I'm not a fan dedicated ATI or Nvidia - all my current cards are Nvidia, because right now they are the best).

Hope this works, an SSD would you give an improvement in the overall responsiveness, due to its fast seek times, which is especially important for smaller files.  Not sure how much improvement, though.  Good point, it's that an SSD can be used in the most recent machines as well.

  • New HP 2011 x 20 '' LED monitor for old Dell Dimension 2400. necessary graphics card?

My in-laws have an old Dell Dimension 2400 and the monitor exploded. I bought a new HP 2011 x 20 '' LED monitor. My WIRE went to set up, and he tells her that a HMDI graphics card is required.

This is a pretty old computer. I think he might have as... 512 MB of RAM. Is there an inexpensive graphics card that will meet their needs?

And besides, when they buy the graphics card, are there all the cables that they must reach a new monitor to an old computer?

    Thank you very much!

    Nice description of Dell:
Video connector to 15 holes :-)

Seems to be a VGA connector.

From the description of the monitor:
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02643130
There is an also vga connector, so you will have no problem to connect the two.

No additional card is necessary, no other cable - just use the old vga cable.

Your only problem might be the resolution:
resolution 1600 x 900 set at the factory for the monitor.

I don't know if you can set the resolution to Dell, you should test.

Otherwise a 4:3 normal/old monitor would be better than this 'big screen' new.

  • nVIDIA GeForce Fx 5500 256 MB AGP Graphics Card Drivers for Windows 8 Pro 32-Bit

Hi!, I have motherboard ECS P4M800Pro M2 Ver2.0, 2.2 GHz E4500 processor Intel Core2DUO, DDR2 533 MHz 2 GB RAM hardware with WINDOWS 8 32 Bit operating system. The motherboard has 64 MB S3 UniChrome Pro IGP.

Further to have better graphics during the game, I bought recently NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256 MB AGP 8 x video card. Since I installed this card, windows has installed its driver game by default "Microsoft generic display drivers" and the quality of the graphics is off nominal. Also the 1366 x 768 resolution widescreen is currently not available. The best resolution I have now is 1024 x 768. In this resolution, the graphics of Windows seems very strange on my LG 19 "widescreen monitor.

I tried to install the graphics card drivers on the NVidia site for the old version of Windows, but the drivers are installed with an error message "Pilot" not Compatible with this Version of Windows.

By default windows drivers has release date older than the drivers supplied on OEM for Windows XP.

Please help me to get the drivers for the AGP card compatible with my Windows 8 Pro.

Or how can I force install the older drivers in Windows 8.

    Hi Amit,

Windows 8 compatibility reports that NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 graphic card is compatible with Windows 8. Check out the link

You can check if you have downloaded the 64 bit version of the graphics driver rather than 32-bit.  It could be the possibility for this error message.

Or select the option on the Nvidia site to scan your system to find the correct driver?

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If you still receive an error message that the driver is not compatible, then you try to install the driver in compatibility mode.

If this does not help, I suggest you check with the NVIDIA support.

Personally I would not recommend to card AGP EVERYTHING because of the AGP is SOOO OLD.

This isn't a screamer by any stretch of the imagination.  For games, I would recommend the Radeon 4650 but that requires an upgrade of the power supply.

HOWEVER AGP cards are VERY VERY OLD.  You would be better off investing in a $620 99 Optiplex Tower and get a single slot PCI-E Radeon 6670 Videcard.

  • Double the Dimension 8300 HDMI graphics card?

I entered a discussion yesterday with a Dell REP with the purchase of a double-HDMI graphics card for my Dimension 8300.

Is it true that only graphics cards that sell Dell will work in this model of computer?  They don't sell any double-HDMI are compatible with this computer.

Shouldn't be able to buy any material from off - the shelf and install it?  I thought that these problems of compatibility years ago has left us.

Although I prefer the HDMI interface, I have a dual-DVI Radeon I pulled a Dell desktop computer that I replaced.  A reason that does not work?

Is it true that only graphics cards that sell Dell will work in this model of computer?

No, but those that sell Dell have probably been tested to work with the system that they recommend you for.

If you're really talking about an old Dimension 8300 and not a new XPS 8300, you have an AGP video card slot, so it is quite difficult to find an AGP card with two HDMI ports.  You can look in the BIOS Setup to the primary video controller option to see what other options are supported.

But this system has only PCI slots (not the PCI - e newest) thus, even if you can set the primary video controller to PCI, your choices will be limited.

Why should you double HDMI? Each monitor does support to the DP, DVI or VGA? You have several choices of video PCI card if you go for one that has a HDMI and another port supporting at least one of the monitors. Both monitors do not have to be connected via the video port of the same type...

Lets start over which is an antique with limited options because he has only PCI slots and not normal video card.  He has the card, you ask about "high definition 3D Performance & quality of the Image on your PC" If you plan to get one, try the EBay marketplace because it's really old hardware and you can get one for almost nothing.  For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Visiontek-Radeon-X1300-Graphics-Card-256MB-128bit-900106-/191175474229

Just make sure one ordered is the PCI version.

I currently have a GeForce GT540M graphics card and it is not able to run newer games. Anyone know of a cardboard for ~ $150, which made my existing configuration and allow me to play newer games?

Space seems to be limited to this all-in-one PC.

Yes. Space is limited. Your PC is not really intended to be upgraded.

The type of video card requires that your PC is pretty specialized.

It has a PCI Express MXM slot that supports a PCI Express x 16 graphics card (generation 2 speed), not a standard PCI Express x 16 card.

They are seriously not easy to find. There used to be a website that sold, but he went bankrupt.

  • Pavilion dv7-4080us: upgrade or replacement for dv7 4080us video graphics card

I want to know if I can upgrade the memory of my HP dv7-4080us graphics card. He did an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1 GB of DDR3 memory with up to 3738 MB total dedicated memory graphics card. What this means? I can put more memory or repalce the card? If so, what card should or can I get?

There is no 'card' you might be imagining. The video is one of the dishes chips soldered to the motherboard. You already have the best video system available for dv7-4000 series of laptops, so there is no way upward to something better.

  • recommendation for old Optiplex GX620 graphics card

I upgraded my OS to Win 7 Pro 32 bit on this computer, but the Windows experience index is estimated at 2.8 with aero off because of the graphics.

Processor: Mark 3.9, memory rating 4.5, Aero graphics performance: score of 2.6, games graphics: Mark 3.4, HDD: score 5.8

It's a mini-tower Optiplex GX620 about 5 years, used for backup and email and the internet for other PCs:

    Pentium 4, E6850, 3.0, 4MB, Core Duo-Conroe, HDD 320 GB, 3 GB of memory, 375w power supply, graphics card, 128 MB ATI Radeon X 600, integrated sound.

I would like a recommendation on a graphics card inexpensive that this machine can handle without more work of the CPU. I have searched the forum but could not find recent info.

    Thank you.

SAPPHIRE HD 5450 1 GB would work in a dell optiplex GX 620? Slim. also is it just plug and play?

I doubt it is plug-and-play; to illustrate, a parent replaced a burnt on 6450 with a 8400GS and Windows installed default VGA driver and he left like that. The screen showed a large black border, and the resolution is suboptimal. Installing software appropriate to NVidia eliminated border and full resolution.

I would say that the card will work, but you will need to install the driver (which isn't hard).

I have a Sapphire 6570 installed in my GX620, with excellent results.

  • Boot from USB flash for Dimension 4600?

I searched on the Dell support site to see if the BIOS

on a Dimension 4600 will allow me to boot from a USB flash memory

stick?  My BIOS is version A07, who apparently does not, but

I wonder if all the versions of the BIOS for a 4600

Let him?  I don't want to Flash my BIOS if there is anything that I need

the new versions of BIOS, but I'm also curious about hyperthreading

the most recent BIOS functions.  I wish there was a list of improvements

each version of the BIOS on a single page.  I have not found a way of

determine what has been added in each version of the BIOS after A07.

    Thank you

If the USB device is present when you turn it on and is bootable, it is possible to change the boot priority order.  The device must be bootable however.  I use Sandisk Cruiser readers to ADAPT because they don't stick as to be broken and are easily hidden if hooked up to the rear of the machine.
