Format the hard drive and reinstall XP

Hi - my old Insprion I8200 had more slower over the years.  So I want to do a full format of the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP.  I understand that this will destroy all my data, that is not a problem.

I have the Dell operating system reinstallation CD and the instructions tell me that when I boot from the CD, there will be two options: Windows repair or reinstall Windows.  I intend to use the option of resettlement, but I want to make sure that this option is likely to reformat the hard disk, before it reinstalls Windows.

Can there, someone confirm please?

  • Satellite P30: How to format the HARD drive and install a new OS?

I have a satellite P30 laptop with Windows XP. I plug myself a new OS (namely because I can't find my old recovery CD CD and OS) that I want to do a re-shape full of my system. Reason is that my system has been painfully slower and slower over the last year. I even updated my RAM to 512 MB standard supplied with the machine to 2 GB, but it seems to have had little or no effect. So my questions are:-

1] where can I get my hands on the restore CD that has all the drivers on this subject, and any recovery CD to reformat my HARD drive?
[2] in the order in which I will make this reformatting?
How can [3] after having bought an external HARD drive to keep files that I don't want to lose, I transfer those of before my re - format?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    :-)

    Hello

You received with the laptop Toshiba Recovery CD! Am I wrong?
    So what s the problem?

Simply insert the CD and try to boot from this CD.
The restore CD contains all Toshiba drivers, tools and utilities Windows OS + additional software like Win DVD for example.
The installation will set the laptop to factory settings, but will also format the HARD drive!

Up to now, we come to the point 3; --> How do I save the data
If you have purchased a second HDD and connect it to the USB port and transfer all the necessary files on the second HDD
If you have purchased only the HARD drive, then you will need a USB HDD 2.5 case.

    Hello DavidariesGoh

    Reinstall Windows XP
To reinstall Windows XP, try either of the following methods. If the first method does not work, try the second.

Note You can disconnect from the Internet during the installation. This helps to protect you against malicious users. Method 1: Start the reinstallation of Windows XP to reinstall Windows XP by using the Windows XP CD, follow these steps:

    1. Start your computer.
    2. Insert the Windows XP CD in the CD drive or DVD drive of your computer.
    3. In the Welcome to Windows XP page, click Install Windows XP.
    4. On the welcome page in Windows installation, click upgrade (recommended) in the Type of Installationbox (if it is not already started), and then click Next.
    5. On the license agreement page, click I accept this agreement, and then click Next.

If you completed the reinstallation, congratulations. You are almost finished. Please go to the section "after you have reinstalled Windows XP' at the end.

If you receive an error or if the reinstallation did not finish, try Method 2. Method 2: Repair install of Windows XP by starting your computer from the Windows XP CD Note if Windows XP was preinstalled on your computer, you may need the installation CD to reinstall. Contact the manufacturer of your computer to make sure that you have the CD for a repair installation.

To reinstall Windows XP by starting your computer from the Windows XP CD, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the Windows XP CD in your computer's DVD or CD drive, and then restart your computer.

  • HARD drive gone bad. How to replace the HARD drive and reinstall operating system without a recovery disk?

I have a HP with Windows 7 Home Premium TouchSmart tm2.  The HARD drive is clicking and will not start.  Error: Device not found Boot.  I guess I have to replace the HARD drive, but how can I restore/reinstall operating system without a recovery disk?  Windows was preinstalled, and I have the product key.  Thank you.

    Hello:

You can order a recovery disc defined by following the instructions on the link below.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00810334

    or...

You can download the 32-bit or 64-bit version of windows 7 Home Premium ISO on the link below and use your product key to activate the installation.

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-Windows-7-SP1-ISO-from-Digital-River/

You need a program that will be able to burn ISO files so that the DVD is bootable DVD burning. Burn at the slowest possible speed for best results.

Then install all the drivers you need for your PC support and driver page.

  • Satellite A660 - 1 H 7 - How to replace the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7

    Hi all

I'm frequently getting warnings about the health of my hard drive and while it is not catastrophic, I've been umming and ahhing (?) on the replacement of an SSD in the future anyway so thought it was a good excuse.

My real question is, what the procedure is perfect (or greater) for Windows 7 migration to the new drive? I think I want a default installation because this laptop has had so many programs installed/uninstalled it's probably a bit of a mess.

I have created 4 recovery DVD disks but have seen on the net they don't work and that download an ISO with the vignette product key can work either. I can't really afford interruption much (or all) so I try to do it safely and securely as possible!

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time,.
    Scott

    > what the procedure is perfect (or greater) for Windows 7 migration to the new drive?

I think the fastest solution is the use of the recovery disk that you created using the recovery media creator Toshiba. I don't see a reason why it should not work as part of a new SSD.

    I also have another recommendation.
You can create an image of your current HDD (partitions) using internal Windows 7 Backup and restore
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/backup-and-restore

After using the recovery disk, you can use the created image to get the current status.

  • I want to format my hard drive and reinstall windows. How can ensure me that I can reuse the product key?

I have a situation where my PC seems to be compromised by a virus or similar thoughly.
I want to perform a low-level format low-level the disks and start over. However, I have a single windows license and I'm afraid that if I do the format I am unable to reinstall it with my product key (as it is already registered).

Can someone advise how I de-register my copy of windows and retrieve the product key, so I can install it again as a new copy?

(I don't want to use the options panel, as they appear to use some sort of system image stored on the machine. As far as I know, that the virus hide. It has already been proven extremely resistant to any attempt to restore my anti virus.)

You can reactivate simply by phone:

    Activate Windows 7 manually:
    1. click on start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    2. press enter on your keyboard

    3. Select your country.
    4. Select the telephone activation option and brace yourself for a real person.

  • Replacing the hard drive and reinstall Windows

I installed a new SSD after and an old man died.  I have software and codes appropriate for Full XP and Windows Vista.  I got the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro.  I forgot Windows 7 is an upgrade and commissioned first (with all updates, antivirus, MS Office and some other programs) I now use the using the 30-day trial option.  So here's the question...

I know the standard answer is to wipe everything and start loading XP or Vista then "redevelopment" of Win 7, but I have to ask.  If I have good previous codes of my Windows operating system and the upgrade activation code for my Win 7, is there a way to convince the customer to activate my product remotely or just give me an activation code which will keep me upward and running?  This will save a lot of time and effort for me.

    Respectfully,.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.
