free space for fileconnection on //store

Hi all

I need your help to understand the memory model of bb.

I read a few posts incl.

http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/Rim/Board/message?board.ID=java_dev&message.ID=17297&query.ID=21...

and looked at

http://NA.BlackBerry.com/eng/deliverables/5827/BB_device_memory_447111_11.jsp

So I thougth so I use a fileconnection somewhere on //store and check for free space with the method availableSize() of FileConnection it must return the same as net.rim.device.api.system.Memory.getFlashStats () .getFree (). But on my 9000 "BOLD", the result is different:

[debug: file.availableSize (): 899956736] [debug: getFlashStats () .getFree (): 45640956]

a simulator of 8800 I get:

[debug: file.availableSize (5238698)] [debug: getFlashStats () .getFree (): 31199508]

Can someone point me to the right direction?

Thank you!

PS my application is compiled with 4.2.1

There are 2 types of memory read here.  Application (MemoryStats) memory and memory (FileConnection).  If you look at the BlackBerry Bold under Options, memory, you should see all two registered and they must match the numbers that you see.  The application memory is where applications are installed and the device memory is available for storing files (FileConnection and access as a USB storage device).

The first thing I would check is your photos storage configuration. You have deselected optimized storage. Tap Settings > iCloud > pictures or settings > Photos & camera, then select a storage parameter.

  • Store of data for a single data Windows drive must free space for snapshots or any other reason?

I have a machine virtual it is partition C: is on a data store. I have a data store separate 500 GB and I want to give all of the 500 GB for this virtual machine as a D: partition. I think that for this virtual machine snapshots will reside on the data store that is home to the C: partition. Is this correct or should I leave little free space on the data of 500GB store?

In addition to the vmdk, a small header file (a few bytes) is created in the data store. You may need a few (a few MB) of additional space if you use the modified block followed for example backup and replication. So I recommend that leave you little free space.

Make sure that the database VM store is configured with at least a 2 MB block size so you can fix the vmdk on the virtual machine.

  • Low free space on the data store.

    Hi ladies and gentlemen

I have 3 connected to my server from Vsphere data warehouses, data warehouses are a Terrabyte each but only have about 65 concerts on the free space on each of them.

How this small space affect my ability to take pictures? Take a snapshot potentially cause data warehouses to run out of space?

Thank you very much for all the tips...

    Clint.

    Dear Sir.

Snapshot response potentially cause data store run area is YES.

The explanation is dependent on the setting of the snapshot, configured manually, automatically configured (by any agent backup) or?

Sorry, I'm not explain in detail here.

  • Free space in the data store is lower we shouldn't

    Hello

I'm under VMware ESXi on HP Proliant DL380 G5 server - the data store has a global capacity of 678 GB, with now 34 GB free. I have 5 VMs running:

    reader1/lecteur2

    (1) Win2k3: 50 / 100

    (3) Win2k3: 50 / 50

    (1) Windows XP: 10

Oh - and the two models, one for the server (50) and a XP (10)

Yesterday, I created a couple of clones of the XP, 1 with Vmkfstools - i and the other with vConverter - especially for the practice, but they are only 10 GB. Before my creations, free space read about 115 GB - then she got at the moment, I noticed 34GB. I deleted the two new virtual machines thinking I came home back from space, but no dice. Math is not my best subject, but this does not seem to add up. Do something wrong, I missed something?

Is it possible to reclaim that space? Before I thought to check with you guys, it dawned on me that I could stop all VMs and restart the host, but if there is another way, I want to know it.

    Linda

Browse the data store - go to the "Home" view - inventory - data warehouses, click a data store, and then select Browse.

Look in the subdirectory for each virtual computer and determine that seem abnormal large size files and total size of all files that exceed the size of the virtual disks assigned to the virtual machine.  If you specify then what are the names of the files a plan for how to get rid of them.

Why do you think you have to check the free space into a storage ensures physical ?
You cannot create all segments anyway.

  • only 1.9 GB of free space for linux file

I just installed red hat linux enterprise 5.1 on fusion 2.03 using easy install.  It's on a mac pro using 10.5.5.

When I create a new folder on the desktop or in the folder, it says only "1.9 GB of free space" is available.  In the settings, the virtual disk is 40 GB.

Why can't I get more space?

Probably not a problem merging themselves, and you should fix it as you would if you had a physical disc.

I would check the configuration of logical volume and/or partitioning (virtual) startup disk that was made at the facility, RHEL 5. I do not know what to install Easy out of the box. Just as a physical disk, if she does not have in place the disc to your expectations, it may not be clear, that you suspect in allocated to file systems. If your startup disk has been implemented to use LVM and space not assigned to a disk volume, you may be able to expand volume/file system containing your home directory.

Better yet, do not use Easy Install. If you are competent enough to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux, you don't need the training wheels of Easy Install

  • Add memory to HP ENVY Phoenix 800 - 070st - free space for the locations of memory behind the radiator.

    Hello

I ordered a HP ENVY Phoenix 800 - 070st with 16 GB of memory and is to be delivered Friday. My question is how much clearance is here to the sticks of memory in the slots behind the radiator and the radiator has to be removed for adding memory to these two locations. Will it take low memory footprint, or is there room for mem sticks with heat sinks. It won't be here until next week, if just trying to plan ahead.

    Thank you

    Bryan

    Gateb, welcome to the forum.

I can't find any warnings about any of your concerns in the specs of HP.  However, having said that, I suggest wait you receive the computer to make purchases.  HP isn't necessarily embracing third-party updates.  Memory performance with heat sinks can be very important, as you know, or you have asked the question.  Better safe than sorry.  Just my $. 02.

Moreover, it is a great computer.

  • Shrink a VM HD - is the destination data store need to have enough space for the source or destination VM?

    Hi all

I have an existing file with HD Server configures:

    HD1: 60 GB

    HD2: 20 GB

    HD3: 650 GB

    Total: 730 GB

I intend to shrink HD3 250 GB that will give me a new total of 330 GB.

My question is, when I rode the VMware Converter Standalone process and I get to the step where I select the 'destination '.  Obviously, I need to select a data store that can adapt to the virtual destination machine.

My concern is that it shows the size of the source disk (Go 730) (see image below), and for some reason any part of the conversion process the destination data store requires the storage of the size of 330 GB vm 730GB as opposed to the 'new '.

    source disk size.PNG

    Can anyone confirm?

    Thank you

There are no for the data store 730 GB free in order to submit the conversion. 330 GB free (size after reduction) would be sufficient.

If you also select a provisioning, you could even start the conversion with less free space on the data store, but it may fail at some point, if the actual data meet.

  • where the free space is managed for automatic segment management space

    Hello
I am preparing for OCA and arrived by a question. which

Q: with management automatic segment-space, where free space is managed?

    A. to the extent of a created tablespace
    B. in the control file
    (C) in the data dictionary
    D. in the undo tablespace

    Answer mentioned: D

But as I know that the news of free space for automatic segment space management are bitmaps stored in the header of the segment.

    Please help clarify...

    Thanx.

    Ashutosh

    Dear Ashutosh,

Undo tablespace does not support segments and segment car space management can be applied to the locally managed tablespace. Segments of cancellation are dealing with the management of the undo tablespace IF you set undo_management auto. Otherwise the system tablespace and rollback segments will load to cancel (not recommended)

Dictionary managed tablespaces store the information in the data dictionary and controlfile doest not manage free space here and I assume that the answer to this question is A :) I hope I'm not wrong! :)

    Hope that helps.

  • How much free space should I leave on a DATA partition?

I can find discussions about why we should give adequate free space on a Windows 7 OS partition, but I can't find anything about the question to know if performance suffers if a partition used strictly for the * data * is too full.  For example, Windows 7 has a requirement to free space for Defrag to work properly?  If so, what is it?  I know that for XP defrag wouldn't even run with less than 15% free space in partition, but I don't see anything on such a restriction in 7.  And are there other aspects?  Thank you.  (Wasn't sure to put this question in "Performance and Maintenance" or "files and folders," so I chose the first.)

AFAIK, the hard disk Windows fault detection mechanism, where the CHKDSK command is a part (the big cannon), which allows to cope with errors in small scale more or less on the fly. If the problem worsens, CHKDSK is called, and Windows stops and restarts to give a best shot at fixing the issue without distractions of CHKDSK.

If you're lucky, CHKDSK will report the broken clusters as death, moving away from the dead zone data, and Windows will continue as usual. If the disk is full to the top, none of the foregoing can or will happen, there is no room for errors of any kind.

So, let us free space on the disk... A data reader may not get the rigorous use that gets the C drive, but it's always a dynamic environment where files are read and re-writings on demand.

Some bad clusters on a disk is no big deal, and the player works pretty well. The trouble begins seriously when the grapes begin to fail on a regular basis, and you will get WARNING that because Windows will appear to hang during playback of files. If you ignore this warning, CHKDSK will be finally called whenever the computer is started.

So, no, you do not rush out and buy a new hard drive, all simply because a few bad clusters have been detected.

Large free space reduces the loss of data? Just as much as Windows has a fairly reliable place to re - write files that had been a real struggle read less of good grapes. In this way, it also buys you time to do regular backups until you can plan to replace the drive

Even if the 15% limit has been removed from the Defragmenter, you must always leave at least 15% free especially if you store large file sizes, but it is only a recommendation, not a hard and fast rule. Personally, I think it was a mistake to remove the limit that it just encourages computer users to fill the readers to the absolute ability to believe that everything will be fine.
