  Looks like your problem is with Photos not iMovie. You can see your photos in the photos app? Using iCloud photo library? If yes then maybe you need to wait for iCloud Sync photos to your Mac.

  New to photoshop or lightroom/bridge. I'm already massively confused. What I really do is process my photos and know where they are going once I press save. Frankly, I had a lot of problems who feel extremely unnecessary. For example, I download pictures from my memory card, put them in a photo album, delete the ones I don't want and then try to edit in photoshop. First of all, all the photos I already deleted are always selectable in the album, then it sucks. Then after that I edited the picture and save it, it saves it to a file of "photoshop".
