Fusion & VMWare Tools

I installed merger off a trial download. I would like to download VMWare Tools, if I can share between Mac and Ubuntu. But each tutorial begins with a physical CD drive. Why can't I find a download? I do not see the links of all sites. I found this link on other sites - http://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/5.5u2/index.html - but I'm unable to find official documentation for VMWare. What Miss me?

Thank you

Hello Schmudde,

Welcome to the VMware communities forum.

How to get the VMware tools in your guest ubuntu is by using the menu option "Virtual Machine"-> "install VMware Tools".

Who will present a virtual CD-ROM for your guest OS.

  • Impossible to get files shared, open-vm-tools or vmware tools to work after upgrading Fusion 8

I just upgraded to Fusion 8 and have been upgrading my VMs accordingly.  I went to install vmware tools as usual on Ubuntu 14.04, and the script or the pop-up said that the preferred method for this OS has been to use instead the open-vm-tools. I installed open-vm-tools, but my shared folders disappeared. I tried to install vmware-tools, since I found an old ad saying that would solve the problem, but he wants to only replace open-vm-tools.  I thought I would try anyway, but the installation fails with errors.  I completely uninstalled vmware tools and restarted open-vm-tools.  It doesn't seem to be a manual for the use of open-vm-tools.

If open-vm-tools is the preferred method to use ubuntu on vmware, how to bring back all the features (shared folders, etc.)  Why did every upgrade VMware accompanied by pain and hard to find answers?  Or maybe I'm being really stupid.

(this was originally released by chance in the wrong place.  It is now being published in the Fusion forum)

OK, I FINALLY got working open-vm-tools on Ubuntu.  I'm not sure that all that was necessary, but here's what I did:

    1. Completely uninstalled vmware tools using the uninstall program
    2. Open-vm-tools, open-vm-tools-desktop and open-vm-tools-dkms is installed. I am not sure I needed everything, but at least man pages were here who has helped.
    3. At one time I used vmware-user-suid-wrapper, which defined the Office on the appropriate resolution, but is not persisted until I upgraded to Ubuntu.
    4. Updated Ubuntu Studio ot 15.04 Vervet vives.
    5. VMware-hgfsclient will show you what is actually shared by the virtual machine, even if it is not mounted.
    6. To constantly rising stocks, I added the following to the / etc/fstab: "".host: / / mnt/hgfs vmhgfs defaults 0 0 ""
    7. Rebooted and everything works now.

Given that VMware now recommends that users use open-vm-tools instead of the deprecated vmware-tools, it would have been nice to have brief instructions on how to make the transition, rather than have me spend hours in trial and error until I have to work.

  • VMware Fusion 7 and VMware Tools - leak memory in Debian comments

At some point during my updates from Mac OS X to Yosemite, VMware Fusion to 7.x and my Debian a guest to 8.0 "Jessie" on my 2012 Mackbook Pro, leaking memory of the Linux kernel is developed.  If I follow these steps, then I'd lose soon about 3 GB memory of the core area.

    1. Install Debian Jessie in a new machine virtual de VMware Fusion
    2. Install open-vm-tools or VMware Tools bundled.
    3. Perform an intensive IO as operation simply cat/dev/zero |-c 1000000000 head >/tmp/test.txt.
    4. Smem - wtk and see ~ 3 GB memory under the dynamics of the kernel memory, benefit.

I opened the 15709682007 assistance request and the representative said that they will fix the problem in a future release. In the meantime, I have what seems to be a workaround for someone else that is affected.  Basically, pulling packages from backports jessie seems to have solved the problem.  This is based on the comments added to open-vm-tools.

    1. Add the Debian repository -backports jessie in /etc/apt/sources.list
    2. sudo apt - get update; sudo apt - get install t Jessie-backports open-vm-tools-dkms open-vm-Tools-Office
    3. sudo apt - get - t jessie-backports dist-upgrade (install kernel 4.1)
    4. Restart comments

    A few quick thoughts:

    1. If you have several virtual machines (or other programs) running on your computer host and VMware Fusion detects that there is memory pressure on your host computer, it uses the "balloon" (vmw_balloon for the latest distributions of Linux) Guest pilot to fly some memory of the guest OS.  This memory "stolen" would appear as memory Dynamics non-cache kernel inside the guest.  Running "sudo rmmod vmw_balloon" should release all memory climbed to the guest OS.  Note that using the balloon driver generally improves the performance of the guest and host, despite the appearance of fear "used memory" inside the guest-"used memory" is just a thing of accounting that we had to use in order to change the priority of the memory between the host and the guest.  It is not "used" in the conventional sense of the term.

    2. I believe that recent versions of virtual hardware non-cache dynamic kernel allocate the necessary memory for SVGA and 3D features (display RAM, texture RAM, etc.).  Disable graphic 3D acceleration or by reducing the amount of graphics shared memory if you are using a new version of virtual hardware (both in the VM > settings... > display) might help.  Decommissioning of a virtual equipment as early (in the VM > settings... > compatibility) can also help.

    See you soon,.

    Thank you

    Jonathan Morgan

The VMWare Tools included with fusion 7.0.1 solved this problem for me (and without any serious regressions I noticed so far, at least, which is nice but not something I intend on with vmware), so probably the next update of each VMware product should include the updated tools.  Don't know how long updates to other products are coming, however.  Wonder if there is a separate place to get just the tools to day?

  • 7 - fusion '3D Acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

    Hello

I installed the free Fusion 7 trial this week on my iMac and subsequently installed Windows 8.

The resolution of the screen under Windows is very low compared to the Mac OS.

In addition, I have the warning message in the Windows display settings:

'3D acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

I also note that the display driver in Windows is the display driver database with Microsoft.

A few weeks ago I installed version 6 of Fusion and it worked very well.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    John.

Take a look at the installation and the use of the VMware tools and more spicifically to manually install or upgrade VMware Tools in a Windows Virtual Machine.

If by chance, VMware Fusion is not properly mounting image VMware Tools windows.iso file then you have to do it manually.  It is located in "/ Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Library/isoimages/windows.iso" and will have to be copied, not moved, in a location that is accessible out of the bundle of VMware Fusion.app as the office.  If you need to do this, you can right click on the bundle of VMware Fusion.app see the content of the selection box and access its location to copy.  To assign the windows.iso on the CD/DVD image, take a look at: Connect and Set Up a CD/DVD Drive

  • VMware Fusion 7 - OSx 10.9 comments iTunes hangs at each time after installing vmware tools

    Hello community,

I'm having a problem with vmware tools.  Yesterday, I did the upgrade of Fusion 6 to 7 Pro.

I have installed Mavericks like virtual machine.  My system (iMac Late2013) has installed Mavericks.

With vmware tools iTunes crash whenever it is launched.

Without vmware tools iTunes works well... but the yield is very low (I can't use shared folders, etc.)

Before upgrading vmware fusion 7, I had fusion 6 and everything works fine (I mean iTunes with vmware tools)

I use this machine with audio application and it is important for me to use iTunes inside the virtual machine.

Is there the 'tricks' to solve this problem?

    Thank you

It's finally a bug in iTunes that Apple should correct (so please click on "Send to Apple" in this window), but it is important to use to find out what triggers it.

I suspect a significant change, we did for the graphics drivers of comments (within the VMware Tools for OS X) between Fusion 6 and 7 of the merger. To test this theory, please try the following experiences in your VM Mavericks:

    o experience 1

In Terminal.app, run the following command:

    sudo nvram boot-args = 'vmw_gfx_caps = 0'

Then restart the client Mavericks. Does make the problem disappear? If no, continue to experiment 2

    o experience 2

In Terminal.app, run the following command:

    sudo rm - rf {/System,}/Library/Extensions/VMwareGfx.kext

Then restart the client Mavericks. Does make the problem disappear?

  • How to install VMware tools correctly on Linux Mint 15 cinnamon on Fusion 5.0.3

    Hello

First of all, I understand that Linux Mint is not supported (side: anyone know if this will change?), so I appreciate any help.  My main problem is with the folders shared

    Dead ends

So far, I've run into some dead ends:

    1. I watched install VMware Tools in Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (Olivia) - YouTube - but this facility has been the "'VMware Workstation 9.0.2 ' and the author admits"I don't know if it works or not with the fusion." "

2 I downloaded a a copy of the latest vmwaretools for linux of deposit of CDS - /www/stage/session-32/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/5.0.3/1040386/packages only to find it was exactly the same as the package vmwaretools this merger gives me at least VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893383

    Some success

I had some mild success by running the following commands before installing - it seems to stop error messages:

    apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install build-essential

    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

    sudo apt-get install xinetd

    But my MAJOR PROBLEM IS...

When I try to activate the shared folders while the guest is running, I see a message:

    VMware folder sharing failure.jpg

Or if I turn on shared folders when the guest does NOT work, I don't get an error message - but I don't see either record hgfs under/MNT

    Other research

I read can't see the shared folders in Linux guest (Windows host) and Re: sharing files on drive betw host and the guest does not work on Ubuntu 13.04 and even tried to run the script vmtoolspatch of WoodyZ of this post - with the following result:

To install VMware Tools type the following

    commands, pressing Enter after each:

    cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib

    sudo ./vmware-install.pl

But after the installation of the VMware shared folders tools has not always worked.

    My plea

Someone has successfully shared folder with Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (32 bit - no codecs) invited 5.0.3 fusion and if so could you share the steps that you used?

    My system Details

I tried this using VMware Fusion 5.0.3 in both a

MacMini running Lion Server (OS X 10.7.5) 2 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a

MacBook Pro running 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo 8 GB DDR3 (OS X 10.8.4) Mountain Lion

I have only this tried using Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (32 bit - no codecs)

Well, starting with the basic installation created by using the linuxmint-15-cinnamon-dvd-nocodecs-32bit.iso image under VMware Fusion 5.0.3 I did the following.

sudo apt - get install linux-headers-$(uname-r)

    sudo ln-s/usr/src/linux-headers-$ (uname-r)/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname-r)/include/linux/version.h

Excerpt from the VMware Tools VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893683.tar.gz to: / tmp

Open a Terminal, by default, the base directory, then:

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc ~ $. / vmtoolspatch

    patch the file driver.c

    patching file inode.c

To install VMware Tools, type the following command

    commands, pressing ENTER after each:

    CD/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib

    sudo./VMware-install.pl

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc ~ $ cd/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib $ sudo./vmware-install.pl

Once VMware Tools have been installed, I rebooted and had access to the VMware shared folders.

So it works with the basic install however I do not run apt - get update then apt - get upgrade or use one kernel other then the default.  So once the changes then the scrip may not work and I don't have time to test each variable and am just trying to give some automated solution just to make it easier to patch based on what is said in the Notes section in the script.  Really don't want to maintain it and others can build on this and or do something similar.

Make sure that the stamp of Date/time on the file vmtoolspatch is Jul 15 00:04:00 2013 as who has worked with this test.

I hope that there is a simple explanation how to do it.

    Simple is a relative term.

First time poster.  Search discussions but have not seen a solution to my situation (I hope that I was not missing).  After you have made the choice to install VMware Tools, the option under the Virtual Machine then offers a selection of "Cancel VMware Tools Installation" but seems to be charged is stuck.  Yellow warning sign icon at the bottom right highlights "VMware tools can be improved" and when you click it, a context menu appears asking permission for Windows host process (Rundll32) to run and do so brings the VMware tools properties but clicking OK or update tools does nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.  I am running Snow Leopard with Vista in my VM.

When clicked on install VMware Tools in the menu of the Virtual Machine that fusion inserted the ISO image in the CD/DVD and in the case of the Windows OS if the VMware tools set up does not automatically that the user must manually run the setup.exe from the CD/DVD drive.

If for example you should just start button and in the search box, type d:\setup, where "d:" is the drive letter assigned to the CD/DVD and then the installer should appear in the list and you can just double-click it.

    Help, please

When you choose Virtual Machine > install VMware Tools what happens is inserts ISO Image to VMware tools appropriate in the CD/DVD of the merger and Windows if the Auto-Insert Notification does not work then you must manually run the : \setup.exe in Windows Explorer. (Sure would be nice if VMware that would in the help file and it makes absolutely no sense that it is not there in the first place!)

Note: These ISO Images are stored at: "/ Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/isoimages.

If needed you can manually mount the image appropriately, if necessary.
