Installing vmware tools in linux mint in vmware fusion 3 11?

I would like to install Linux Mint as a guest in my Vmware Fusion 3, but my problem is to know how to install VMWare Tools for Linux Mint. I hope that there is a simple explanation how to do it.

Thanks in advance

I hope that there is a simple explanation how to do it.

Simple is a relative term.

Take a look at: VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > Search > type vmware tools, then select display all help topics and then select: installation or upgrading VMware Tools in a Machine virtual Linux

  • can I install VMWare Fusion for windows on an encrypted drive

I'm 10.11.2 on an air of early 2015 with flash player mac OS with active FileVault 256Go. I read somewhere that an encrypted drive won't allow installation of partitions. Not sure if the merger can be installed to run Windows or if the virtual machine will hide this partition to the OS.

You can't resize a FileVault encrypted volume.

  • How to install VMware tools correctly on Linux Mint 15 cinnamon on Fusion 5.0.3

    Hello

First of all, I understand that Linux Mint is not supported (side: anyone know if this will change?), so I appreciate any help.  My main problem is with the folders shared

    Dead ends

So far, I've run into some dead ends:

    1. I watched install VMware Tools in Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (Olivia) - YouTube - but this facility has been the "'VMware Workstation 9.0.2 ' and the author admits"I don't know if it works or not with the fusion." "

2 I downloaded a a copy of the latest vmwaretools for linux of deposit of CDS - /www/stage/session-32/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/5.0.3/1040386/packages only to find it was exactly the same as the package vmwaretools this merger gives me at least VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893383

    Some success

I had some mild success by running the following commands before installing - it seems to stop error messages:

    apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install build-essential

    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

    sudo apt-get install xinetd

    But my MAJOR PROBLEM IS...

When I try to activate the shared folders while the guest is running, I see a message:

    VMware folder sharing failure.jpg

Or if I turn on shared folders when the guest does NOT work, I don't get an error message - but I don't see either record hgfs under/MNT

    Other research

I read can't see the shared folders in Linux guest (Windows host) and Re: sharing files on drive betw host and the guest does not work on Ubuntu 13.04 and even tried to run the script vmtoolspatch of WoodyZ of this post - with the following result:

Well, starting with the basic installation created by using the linuxmint-15-cinnamon-dvd-nocodecs-32bit.iso image under VMware Fusion 5.0.3 I did the following.

sudo apt - get install linux-headers-$(uname-r)

    sudo ln-s/usr/src/linux-headers-$ (uname-r)/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname-r)/include/linux/version.h

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc ~ $ cd/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib $ sudo./vmware-install.pl

Once VMware Tools have been installed, I rebooted and had access to the VMware shared folders.

So it works with the basic install however I do not run apt - get update then apt - get upgrade or use one kernel other then the default.  So once the changes then the scrip may not work and I don't have time to test each variable and am just trying to give some automated solution just to make it easier to patch based on what is said in the Notes section in the script.  Really don't want to maintain it and others can build on this and or do something similar.

Make sure that the stamp of Date/time on the file vmtoolspatch is Jul 15 00:04:00 2013 as who has worked with this test.

  • How does VMWare Fusion 7?

I'm close to be computer illiterate, I'm sorry. I need to run a Windows program on my Mac. It's called Cobra show creator, cobrafiringsystems.com, and it is used for the fireworks of script and poster design. I installed VMWare Fusion 7, then Windows 7 Pro. In Safari, I downloaded the application Cobra show creator. I don't know how to get Windows so I can run. Of course, I don't know what I'm doing and the need for a resource really basic beginners to help me understand how to perform this task in a single. Run the Cobra Show creator. When I open VMWare Fusion, a black and gray appears with a white arrow, I click on the arrow, a progress bars runs for a while and then I get a black screen. At the top of the screen, there is a toolbar and a small vmware with 'Windows 7 x 64' icon next to it. If I do start with "How a computer works for Dummies" and progress through a course of self-study set to arrive at a moment where I understand it, it's fine. If someone will put me in the first step to be able to run this program on my Mac, I will appreciate it.

    Michael Guerra, M.D.

    Kerrville, Texas

I'll bite. Here are the steps you need to take. Keep in mind that it's my best guess - I have never installed or used Cobra show creator, so I don't know exactly how it is supposed to work:

    TO START:

    1. Launch VMware Fusion. I guess that you have done with this.

    2. install Windows 7. I guess that you have done with this.

    3. start Windows 7 in VMware Fusion. Looks like you do this step correctly, and appeared a window Windows 7 (with the toolbar, etc.). What I don't understand is why the window is black. My Windows 7 window is black as long as Windows 7 is starting, but I see a normal Windows 7 window, once it's over.

FIX: In the menu bar Mac, VMware Fusion, select the Virtual Machine-> Reboot and tell us what is happening. We will need more information to help you solve this problem.

    Next steps:

    WINDOWS IS GO:

    4. Once Windows 7 is to the top, you should see a normal screen of Windows 7 with the Windows flag 'Start' button in the lower left corner. If this is not the case, connect to Windows 7 with the account and the password that you created during the installation. Now you should see the Windows flag 'start '.

    5. in the Mac, VMware Fusion menu bar, read the Virtual Machine menu.

Does include "Install VMware Tools"? If so, select and install VMware Tools from within the window of Windows 7. Choose all the default values.

If it says "Update VMware Tools", skip it and proceed to the next step (step 6).

    SET UP A SHARED FOLDER:

    6. in the VMware Fusion menu bar, select the Virtual Machine-> settings (or press command-E)

    7. in the settings window, click "sharing".

    8. click on (check mark) "enable sharing".

    9. click on the sign more, then navigate to the Mac folder that has the installer of Cobra show creator.

    10. the folder should appear in the list, and "on" must be checked.

    11. close the Setup window and return to the screen of your Windows 7.

    INSTALL COBRA SHOW CREATOR:

    12. click on the button "Start" Windows flag in the bottom left corner and select "Computer" on the right side of the menu.

    13. subject to the network location, double-click shared folders to open, and then double-click your shared folder to open it.

    14. double-click on setup of Cobra show creator.

    15. follow the prompts to install Cobra show creator. I hope it's intuitive. If in doubt, accept the default value.

    16. after the installation, you can double-click a desktop icon Cobra show creator. If there is no icon on the desktop, then click the Windows flag 'Start' menu and then click on Cobra show creator.

    Warnings and additional remarks:

    * I assumed you use settings by default when you installed Windows 7 virtual machine in VMware.

    * I guess these default settings are sufficient for Cobra show creator.

    * I take you to the word you go only to run Cobra show creator. If you do a lot of other things in Windows, including connection to the Internet, then you should proactively make sure it is safe by installing software anti-malware, keeping Windows updated with patches updates, monthly Microsoft etc..

Good luck! Happy Easter! Let us know what's going to happen.

  • VMware Fusion version 1.0 Uninstall fails

I have VMware Fusion - Mac 1.0 that has been properly installed and works on an iMac with Leopard.  I had an XP Professional machine and a Windows 98 machine.  I had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall all my software from scratch on a new drive with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.7).  I installed VMware Fusion 1.0 a few months ago but never recreated my XP and Win98 machines.  Today, while he was trying to create a Windows XP Professional computer, I got several times the following (also attached) error message:

    > fatal error VMware Fusion: (vcpu-0)

    > NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/devices/mainmem/mainMemHosted.c:1967

    > a log file is available in "/ users/home/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized / Windows XP Professional.vmwarevm/vmware.log.

    There is no log file.

The vm - support.tool to extract the data from the file does not work (of course).

I thought that it would be prudent to upgrade to version 3.0 with a completely new installation.

However, the uninstall application does not work: it shows just uninstall it's wrong until the end.

Any suggestions on how to force an uninstall or uninstall manually?  That may seem simple or obvious to skilled users, but I am relatively new to this.

VMware Fusion 1.x is not compatible with OS X 10.6.x and you should always check to make sure that something is compatible before installing.

  • Major problems with VMWare Fusion 3.1.1

I just installed the new version of VMWare Fusion 3.1.1 on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.5.8). What a DISASTER! When I allowed him to install the new version of VMWare Tools, it came with a series of warnings that various drivers (mouse, VMXNet, SVGA, etc.) could not be installed. After the required reboot, the PC (Windows XP) came about a 3 "X 4" format (minimum screen resolution) and it will connect is no longer on the network. I got my old version of VMWare (v3.1.0) of my Time Machine drive, but the 3.1.1 installation process has apparently changed other things deep in the bowels of the Mac OS and the v3.1.0 recovered would not go. Is there anywhere on the web that I can download a copy of the from VMWare Fusion 3.1.0 .dmg file so that I can use it to try to get back to where I started (my original drive has only version 3.0)? If someone has means of ideas let me know.

You can download the versions up to published on VMWare support site: VMWare Fusion downloads. Click the link view history under downloads to view previous versions.

Before running the installation, follow these steps:

    (1) start your virtual machine and remove tools from VMWare using Add / Remove programs.

    (2) to the VMWare Fusion 3.1.1 DMG run the program uninstall to remove VMWare Fusion. This will NOT delete your virtual machines.

    (3) restart your machine.

    (4) install VMWare Fusion 3.1.0

    (5) start your virtual machine and install the VMWare tools.

  • No Win7 x 64 drivers for VMWare Fusion bridge or a NAT?

New Snow Leopard Mac, new installation of Boot Camp of Win7 x 64 professional. All drivers install; works very well. Then I install VMWare Fusion 3.0 and tell him to pick up my Boot Camp partition. This works. Install VMWare Tools; This works.

But the ethernet controller will not be installed in Win7.

I have uninstall the device from Device Manager and reboot, not good. I move from NAT to bridged and don't reboot, no good. I switch back, no good. I go OS type of XP and restart, not good. I switch back to Win7 x 64 and restart, not good. I switch back to NAT and restart, not good. I mount the CD of VMware tools in Win7 and I have Windows search for drivers controller ethernet, not good. I can not get the networking between the two machines to work.

    What can I try next?

    Thank you very much.

What is happening is that the virtual machine is probably failing to an AMD PCnet NETWORK eCard interface, for which neither Windows 7 nor VMware Tools has a driver for x 64 hosts. The type of virtual NETWORK adapter appropriate for the guest operating system is a device for Intel E1000 - Windows 7 provides out of the box.

Ensure that the vmx for your virtual machine file has the following line in

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

  • Vista Ultimate, mac, boot camp and VMware Fusion

Just installed VMware Fusion 2.0 and pulled on my Boot Camp Partition. Vista looks good as a virtual machine, but told me that must be activated and that the product key is already in use. It is a commercial version of Vista and is only installed on the boot camp partition. VMWare support site was not very useful. Any thoughts?

    Hello, Greg Bazhaw,.

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers forum.  I've heard of virtual systems having this problem, you must activate Windows.

To open Activation of Windows by clicking on the Start button, clicking computer, clicking Properties, and then click on click here to activate Windows now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

I would never do an in place upgrade of Windows XP to Windows 8 on a Virtual Machine!  Instead I create a Virtual Machine from Windows 8 and install directly Windows 8 by using the upgrade of media!   Take a look at: Clean install Windows 8 with upgrade media

If you don't want to do just like first of all, I suggest and want to fix the Windows XP upgraded the Virtual Machine, do the following in the parameters of the Virtual Machine.

Under system settings > General, change NAME and OS Windows 8.

Under removable devices > NIC > advanced options, click on remove the network card.

Click the device to add... and select the network card, and then click Add.

This should fix the gaps between the default Windows XP network card settings and the settings of the network adapter in Windows 8.

  • Separate partition for VMWare Fusion

Is it a good idea to put a disk/partition separated to install VMWare Fusion and Windows? I'm trying to separate on an Apple iMac programs and by Fusion/Windows programs and data.

    Thank you

    Felix

How you want to manage your host file system of the disk is really up to you and a Virtual Machine is nothing more then a set of files on the file system of the host and are under normal circumstances essentially autonomous.  It you do not call options like VMware Shared Folders and more particularly mirrored folders and files created by an application in the OS of the Virtual Machine are separate and apart from the files created by applications on the host computer as they are stored in disk files hard (hard) within the entire Virtual Machine virtual.  For reference, take a look on: work with Virtual Machine packages

That said, I personally keep my Virtual Machines on another physical partition of the hard drive of the host or a separate hard drive from the hard drive of the host completely OS.  Basically I have what it takes to be able to restore my OS host partition separately from my drive/Partition/Volume data only when user / as appropriate.

What VMware Fusion s 4.0.1' "Double click to upgrade to VMware Fusion 3.app" really do?

    The ' to Started.app ' just says:

    "To upgrade to VMware Fusion

    1. drag the previous version of VMware Fusion to the trash. »

.. .but does not seem to mention the 'double click' upgrade to VMware Fusion 3.app at all.

I used the uninstall VMware Fusion 3.1.3's, program and after that the 'double click' upgrade to VMware Fusion 3.app does not seem to do anything.

I had installed VMware Fusion 3 and used the app "Double click".  It appears a dialog box that asks you to copy stuff in Applications, and I clicked the next.

After a dialog box with another opaque statement "during the upgrade, enter your previous license key:...» "that is not possible since the new key for version 4 is longer than the key to version 3.

In addition, there are two buttons at the bottom right 'Upgrade Now' and 'OK '.   The author of the software even know what is meant by there?  Shameful!  I put the new longer key and went ahead and clicked 'OK' and the 'library of Virtual Machine' open window.
