  Help please! My just called and said she received a call from a compnay called Windows Live Help (I know what it is, I don't think they have made appeals to the people). Anyway, they said their servers showed that his IP address of the computer was hacked and she needed them allow control of his computer. It totally sounds like a scam to me, but I want to make sure. I would also like to give my mother the correct steps to protect his computer in the future and remove all * these people may have installed or caused to his computer. Can someone please give me some advice?

  Malware research does not solve the problem.

  You're not fighting a malware infection.

  It's a scam.

  Microsoft does not contact you unless YOU have made prior arrangements with them to do.

  Click on Start >
  Type in CMD > 
  Right-click on the result, and then click on run as administrator >
  Then type sfc/scannow , and then press ENTER.

  You are running Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Norton or McAfee? If you run one of those, she didn't have Defender. It's good, not bad. Not only is there potential conflict, but there is no reason to have both; basically to have something very similar to the built-in Defender, and both running at a time will be your performance level and create the risk of problems that are contrary to the other.
