Get rid of the old system files

Improved 8 to 8.1 Overview. Update of the windows.old folder that is created. 8 reinstalled to install 8.1 Friday, reinstall created new windows.old, containing the former windows.old renamed in WINDOWS. My new windows.old is more than 20 GB. How can I get rid of him? I have administrator rights on my account, but it can be removed with the system account.

Run the disk cleanup tool.

Open the file Explorer and click on your C:\ drive. A drive Tools tab appears on the Ribbon.

Click the tab tools Drive (Manage) > Cleanup.

The cleanup tool will make an initial pass, but we need to clean the system files too. Then when it's done scanning, click "clean up system files". Now more options will appear and one of them is "Previous Versions of Windows" that will remove the Windows.old folder.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • How to get rid of the old ssid that allows itself on another network

I had a mobile hotspot, I used for the internet, now I use my neighbors, wireless network, the ssid of old hotspot always presents and replaces network neighbors even if it is not operational, showing access internet, causing problems... What can I do?

    Hi PLANTESTEPHAN,

I think that your Windows 7 has implemented information cached on your wireless connections. I suggest you to remove all SSID memory. Restart, and then sign in again to the new connection.

    (a) click Start and select Control Panel.

    (b) go to network and sharing Center. Look at the top left and choose "manage wireless connections.

    (c) then you can rename or set the SSID for each Wi - Fi connection there. I think it's better to delete them all, if you have two or delete mobile hotspot connection.

    (d) restart the computer.

You can also get rid of the extra wireless adaptor by going to control panel > Device Manager, go to 'View' and then choose 'show hidden devices '. Later, go to the network adapters and you can remove all of the extra network adapter entries.

Let us know the status of the issue. If you need help, please after return. We will be happy to help you.

  • Reset cbt - cannot get rid of the ctk vmdk files

    Hi, I have a known problem with the backup of my virtual machines where I need to reset the CBT. The procedure I have the backup software is as follows;

    Solution:

Please follow the steps below to reset the CBT for a specific virtual machine.

    1. turn off the virtual machine

    2. right click on the virtual machine, click on "Change settings", find the 'Options' tab and click 'settings of Configuration.

    3. set the value of 'ctkEnabled' to false

    4. set the 'scsi0:x.ctkEnabled' to false for each disk of the virtual machine in question

    5. open the source folder and remove all - CTK. VMDK files.

    6. turn on the virtual machine

    7. power off the virtual machine again. This step is necessary to update the table of CTK.

8 turn on the virtual machine

    9 replay backup task.

So I have 2 VMs. VM1 and VM2. Both are win2k12 r2 (they are created the same day, the same way, installation of r2 std win2k12, patches, etc...). In step 5, for both servers, even if I delete the ctk.vmdk files, they are automatically reproduced so I can't delete them. Then I continued with the neverthless steps. After step 8, I saw that for VM1, has more ctk.vmdk files so that they are deleted somewhere in the process by the server itself. So my guess is that step 5 is not relevant. The problem I have is that even if I did exactly the same thing for VM2, ctk.vmdk files are never deleted. I reboot 3 times, I tried to manually remove them several times, they always, never to return, they are deleted.

So, basically, I can't reset the cbt on VM2. I double check this ctkenabled are all 'fake' (tried also uppercase) still no luck. Any ideas how I could get rid of these ctk.vmdk files?

    Thank you

Hi, proved that there was a snapshot. As soon as I deleted it, the ctk files disappeared.

  • Get rid of the old updates.

I have xp on laptop.  Is running really slowly.  Given that I've had a ton of updates was 1/09.  Can I get rid of these and this will help the computer run faster?

old updates just to take up disk space and would not be entirely responsible for a slow system.

Unfortunately, a slow system can be attributed to a variety of things, singularly or a combination of them.  It can also be software related or attributed to material or both.

what you can try first run all the tools from microsoft here: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm

Follow these steps and check if that helps.

    Step 1:

I suggest you to reset the updated Windows components and check if that helps.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
