GLOBAL_NAMES and MS SQL server

Hi all

I need to know, in case we create a db link to MS sql server what should be the value of GLOBAL_NAMES?

Are there restrictions? When we put true;  The db link works fine?

Thank you

Hi all

@Jgarry: the length of the hs_db_name must be equal to or less than 8.

Finally, I managed to make it work:

Below the file init for the instance of SQL Server:

HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = MyHost 1433/master

HS_DB_DOMAIN = MYDOMAIN

HS_DB_NAME = MASTER

HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = debug

HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT = RECOVERY

HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD = RECOVERY

ALTER system set global_names = true;

CREATE THE DATABASE LINK 'MASTER. MYDOMAIN. "

CONNECT to 'HIS' IDENTIFIED BY 'xxxxxxx '.

With the HELP of "dg4msql";

Select * from dual@"MASTER. MYDOMAIN';

The last query works fine.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

  • CF8 Enterprise and MS SQL Server

    I need to transfer a CF8 Enterprise application off the coast of a MS Access database to a MS SQL Server existing database/environment (I guess I'm technically Piggy-Back my database in an 'existing' instance). I created my database of SQL Server, responsible for access to the elders of the base and is now looking to connect to CF administrator.
    I get the "java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia] [SQLServer JDBC Driver] [SQLServer] Login failed for user (null)". Reason: not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. "error. I've filled in the id and password, which causes this error. I checked, and the properties of the server (using SQL Server Enterprise Manager) and the validiated defined for authentication (SQL Server and Windows) mixed mode, but don't can't get further.
    Any ideas?

    I was able to verify that SQL Server has been using authentication in mixed mode (both Windows and SQL Server), and that TCP/IP is enabled and using port 1433.
    I had to create an ID local within SQL Server and then used this combination ID / password in the configuration of the data source in the CF administrator And then Bingo, that worked.
    Thanks for all you suggestions and patience. Oh, and I also bought a book from SQL Server 2000 to help me get through the code changes required between MS Access and MS SQL Server.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Is there a place to find the specific documentation about SQL Server 2016 BI tools and specific training?

  • Toolkit and remote sql server DB

    I have an application that creates a table and inserts the table entries (~ 15 fields of strings and numbers), it works properly when you speak to a local sql server express labview and the db toolkit.  I connect with a udl on windows7 64-bit file.  I am now trying to connect to a database on the network, I got the udl file to work and connect very well but my query failed (probably created the table) the error code has not been defined.  Anyone have any suggestions on debugging.  I guess that sql server and express to take the same thing, it could be a permissions or timeout?

    If I had to guess, I suppose that the connection didn't correct permissions on the remote DB, although I expect that you would get a recognizable mistake with this. This should be relatively easy to find by logging into the remote DB with this connection using another program (for example, access or Management Studio) and performs the same operations.

    Even if the error code appears as not defined, you can try to search online and see if other people fell on it. Be aware that some error codes are shared by different applications, so be sure that you look good results.

    It would also be useful to know exactly where the error is generated, which should help you more to find the pattern.

  • Documaker 12.1 Standard Edition and Microsoft SQL Server

    Does it matter which version of Microsoft SQL Server that uses Documaker 12.1 Standard edition and may documaker using the latest version?  Is there a particular version of Microsoft SQL Server that is running better with Documaker?

    Documaker uses ODBC for most SQL connectivity. The application is therefore probably not aware (and indifferent) with the specific version of SQL Server, you have installed.

  • We have SQL Server 2005 cluster (3 node cluster), and if we improve this nodes to 2008 R2, the databases associated with the named instance can stay to the version of SQL Server 2005?

    original title: SQL Server 2008

    We have SQL Server 2005 cluster (3 node cluster) and if we improve this nodes to 2008 R2, can the databases associated with the named instance remain to the version of SQL Server 2005, I seem to disagree with this notion, but still need to validation of the pro.

    One way I can think of to achieve this scenario changes the compatibility level to SQL Server 2005 when the node has been upgraded to SQL Server 2008, so we can upgrade databases to SQL 2008 as and when the vendors provide support for this version.

  • vCenter Server and SQL server affinity

    Is there a best practice for the rules of the affinity between a vCenter server and a SQL server VM in the same cluster?

    Thank you

    I think that separation would be mainly for safety.  Maybe to keep the SQL Server in a broadcast domain separate servers so that they do not receive all the Windows usual chatter.

    Most of the environments I've worked have been small enough to either do not have more than a few tens of machines virtual hosts/250, or overworked staff that cannot be dedicated to security, s/n, etc., and the decision was taken to run the DB in SQL Server on the same server as the application of vCenter to reduce the complexity and rely on the host/network/SQL Server security and properly locking to the bottom of vCenter.

    As I said before, there is a good chance you won't notice a difference, performance wise, anyway.

  • Data type of text is not displayed using SQL Server and ASP/VBScript

    Maybe someone help me with this because I used to use PHP/MySQL, but I use for this a Classic ASP/VBScript and MS SQL Server instance and I don't know that much. The scenario is I have an old site that was designed using html tables and I do a CSS/XHTML update on Visual design. As long as we are here, there are some pages that are dynamic and use a MS Access database and we thought it's a good time to upgrade from MS SQL Server (2005, to be exact). No time/money for bringing classic ASP VBScript in ASP .NET.

    Overall, the upgrade went fairly well, especially just to create a new connection to the DB in SQL Server in Dreamweaver after all the tables and data were migrated to SQL Server. Almost everything works as it should. A problem though.

    For some reason, the data of the data type 'text' in SQL Server is not appear (or sometimes appear). I even tried to recreate the recordsets and binds fresh data and the code is more or less identical to what we had before. Anyone know what's happening, or how I can get this data to show?

    I think that there is perhaps some simple and double quotes in the text data and which could be screwing things up. I was hoping there is only a simple function that I could apply the code, but as I said, I don't know.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Your text field should be the last of your select statement, as
    its not stored in the table with the other data, its stored elsewhere,
    as a binary object, should be treated differently. Its common
    the migration of the access problem.

  • SQL Server or restore of database to a new domain

    Hello

    I have Windows Server 2003 and SQL 2005 - in domain a.

    I have another Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008R2 domain equip B w

    The two areas are on the same network of flat, so they only connectivity via IP and Credential Manager etc. (no trust between them).

    People use ODBC connections and then use MS Access to databases (e.g. sales) created on the server of domain A, using authentication Windows (i.e. area a/c).

    The project is to move the database in area b. (all PC will move to domain B as well).

    1. I did a "Backup" sales and restored on server b, created local connections (database) and users and has made the ODBC DSN, but getting errors such as SQL State '28000' and a SQL Server error: 18452. [The connection comes from an untrusted domain...]

    I don't know I'm missing something. What should I do for the above work.

    2. Furthermore, if I had to move the server itself from domain A to B, so what are the steps to do this. Will this still be windows authentication?

    Thank you
